  1. I remember you broaching this topic last year I think? We never got any updates on how it was going. https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/375054-20-man-primaris-crusader-squads/ I've checked out a number of tournament placing lists over the course of 9th. I've never noticed a pattern of 20-man Primaris Crusaders. Obviously any unit will have strengths and weaknesses, but their relative point costs determined their efficiency in the game overall. Any unit - with the right character support or stratagem - could be made to function. Was it always worth the investment to output ratio? I'd argue that the answer to that was no - 15/16 bodies would normally suffice for any purpose. Going to a full 20 was mostly overkill for fun.
  2. I guess this was meant to be funny, but the point still stands; 20-man crusader squads have always been unwieldy and an over-investment in any edition. If you're putting 60 bodies on the table, there were better ways to divide them into squads. I'm all for running thematic lists (triple landraider/vindicators was a favourite list of mine) but it's not gonna be efficient and as such we won't see a lot of 20 man squads, bar those friendly thematic matches.
  3. It's sad that the days of oversized (Primaris) Crusader Squads are ending... I don't expect we'll see a lot of 20-man units on the table; it has rarely been more than a meme. Also if you want more than 5 sword brethren, you pay for 11
  4. I think you have hit on a simply much more efficient method to achieve the same quality; it's 100% the right way to go. We all have the same doubts and get lured into spending too long on a line trooper who will disappear into a squad (or a casualty pile!) - save the headaches for your HQs and centrepieces! Your sanity will thank you, as will everyone who gets to see your awesome fully-painted army!
  5. Your style is delightfully grimdark and the detail is so impressive - I particularly like the subtle use of cross-hatching to bring the fabrics to life. I must confess I'm really glad to see your Marshal as I ended up with a couple of spares of this model due to some transit damage; I had been imagining a similar look for one of them and you have proved it looks awesome! B)
  6. Thanks! Yeah there were some kits I just didn't jive with, but I liked how much boxier this one made him! I don't have the skill/patience to sculpt much myself so this was the only way I was gonna get substantial changes to the silhouette. This is gonna be my painting project for at least until the new year I reckon!
  7. Well I've been busy working on a Redemptor; as yet unnamed, but I did provide him with a tactical rock befitting his stature! Magnetised the secondary weapons and pinned the big guns. The single large magnet in the foot is way stronger than I expected so I didn't need to worry about fitting a second one into the cork board, which was lucky. Also kept his left arm movable, which will should make him a bit easier to transport without breaking the sword. Quite pleased how the helmet/sarcophagus bit came out, and the printed kit was really fun and easy to work with. I've also added a squished genestealer hidden in the rubble :P
  8. It was worth the wait! I like your nimble looking Sword Brethren.
  9. Stellar work, nice kitbashing! And now I want to do Helbrecht in black again.
  10. Ooh nice. Can't wait to get back home and try that one out
  11. Can we do this? It used to be that the chaplain had to be on the board to use a litany, as reserves were too late in the turn order. Apologies if my fuzzy rules knowledge is two editions out of date
  12. =I= @Medjugorje and @Black Blow Fly This really does need to stop, for the benefit of all your fellow Black Templars in this section. The most tiresome thing in this subforum is the inevitable degeneration of every thread into a back & forth between you two with your axes to grind. Medjugorje, we have discussed before that not everyone views "competitive" to the same extremes, and that overselling your feelings on this *does* begin to frustrate people who are looking for every-day competitive advice, not necessarily a mathematical breakdown of the top 10 players in the world. Black Blow Fly, we have also discussed the need to take a step back and remain respectful when discussing these topics. I'm tired of seeing these sniping posts that contribute nothing to the discussion. Frustration may be the reason behind them, but it is not an excuse. While the two of you may never see eye-to-eye on this, neither one can actually *win* in a difference of opinion rather than fact. You are both welcome to be here, but only so long as you keep posting within the rules. I don't expect to have to say anything else on this matter, let's move on. =I=
  13. Lovely dread, impeccable chequered pattern on the kneepad! I've edited the title so it makes a little more sense, but feel free to adjust it to something that suits you (you can do this by editing your first post). I hope we will see more of your Black Templars!
  14. =I= People posting lists are looking for constructive feedback. If you can't find a way to share your expertise without being disrespectful, please reconsider posting until you can do so within the forum rules. =I=
