    • Hi Everyone, I have another thread where I am looking to build and paint a Canis Rex - I found a great guide, one I think I can follow but I need like 100 dollars worth of paint. I thought to myself. Well... that is a lot and I am sure I can cut that down some. It's hard for me to know which colors to cut and sacrifice. At some point, sure I'll have all those paints, but I am starting over from nothing. So buying 100+ dollars worth of paint then stops me from buying models.   So I thought to myself, well you also like Custodes, that seems like less paint. Lets do that. So I did what I always do. I made about 200 army lists. Focused in on one or two that I can build towards (this is going to change anyways by the time I am done and ready to play a game but regardless I like to plan). I watched 7-8 painting videos. I have found that either people use too few colors for my liking and just do simple gold, wash, gold. Or they get too complicated, I am not sure I would even notice the little differences anyway. I mean to models do look so much better, but I don't know that I have that skill to actually pull it off, but I will try.   I found a video I really like. I adjusted a few colors... (I did not like how he did the swords / weapons) It's still almost 200 dollars worth of paint... so worse than Canis. LOL.   I am going to list the paints I am looking at below. It might be a little hard without total context as to which paints are used and where but hopefully that isn't too large an issue and if so then please ask. There are like 3 different reds for example I am sure I could cut one of them... I won't list prices here because we all live in different parts of the world. When I do talk about dollars above, that is my currency and yours might be cheaper or more expensive. So don't worry about that so much as trying to eliminate some of the colors, or help me to do so. Because honestly I don't know what to cut and where.   Black Primer - Vallejo Rich Gold - Pro Acryl Seraphin Sepia - Citadel Heavy Metal Scale 75 Coal black - Pro Acryl Mahogany - Pro Acryl Burnt Red - Pro Acryl Dark Aluminum - Vallejo Black Wash - Pro Acryl Agrax Earth Shade - Citadel Petroleum Gray - Scale 75 Rainy Gray - Scale 75 Walnut - Scale 75 Thar Brown - Scale 75 Bold Pyrrole Red - Pro Acryl Aldebaran Red - Scale 75 Magic Blue - Vallejo Game Color Bold Titanium White - Pro Acryl Vallejo Gloss Varnish Purple - Pro Acryl Plum - Pro Acryl Blue Black - Pro Acryl Dark Blue Grey - Pro Acryl Polyurethane Ultra Matte Varnish - Vallejo Cadmium Red - AK Reikland Fleshshade - Citadel Caspian Blue - Scale 75 Bering Blue - Scale 75     For the record, this does not include the base. That is a whole other issue that I've not decided on yet. This also doesn't include brushes or tools which I also need to buy. But again, my problem and one you can't overcome. I have settled on 3-4 brushes that I need so that isn't so bad.
    • Okay, the editor toolbar has been updated for now. Some of the buttons were rearranged in what I hope is a logical manner (I may have been sniffing too many paint fumes, though, so let me know if you think the new sequencing doesn't make sense to you). In addition, a variety of new buttons were added, giving you more formatting options. The skull header buttons were also removed.   If you're viewing the site using the Carbon skin (the dark one) on a large device (e.g., a computer monitor), the new arrangement of buttons can be seen below, with the new buttons outlined in orange.     Starting at the top and moving from left to right... Undo and Redo should be familiar to everyone. Subscript allows you to change the selected text to subscripted. This is good for showing numbering systems (e.g., CE16 means CE in hexadecimal, which equals 206 in decimal). Superscript allows you to change the selected text to superscripted. This is good for showing exponents (e.g., 22 means 2 squared, which equals 4) and also for identifying notes, especially when one is using footnotes, endnotes, or reference citations. Justify is an alignment style where the text spacing is adjusted so that it stretches from the left margin to the right margin, giving a more uniform appearance to text blocks. Increase indent tabs text blocks over incrementally. Note that the entire text block will be tabbed, not just the first line. Decrease indent untabs text blocks incrementally. Header creates headers that stretch the full width of the screen. The vertical size of the header has been reduced from our previous version. The vertical size will adjust based on the height of the tallest content, whether text or image. You can also create more height be including a transparent spacer image in the content. Headers will have a white border that can't be changed and will default to white text that is aligned to the left and 130% of the size when the text was selected. You can edit the text, however, and you can include images. Half Header is identical to the [full] Header, but only covers half of the screen. While the content within can have its alignment adjusted, the Half Header will always be aligned to the left. Here are some examples of a few that couldn't be shown in the bullet list above.   Header (text changed to black, text set at 20 pts, content center aligned)    Half Header (text set at 12 pts, image added and left at 20 pixels high)   Text not indented Text indented 1 time Text indented 2 times Text indented 3 times and so on...   I may tweak the Header/Half Header codes to give a bit more padding on the bottom.   When applying the Header/Half Header formatting, you'll see a dialog box directing you to select the background color in RRGGBB format. You can enter either six or three characters, the latter only if each character is doubled (e.g., 9A5 would be the same as 99AA55). Unfortunately, the software doesn't pull up a typical color selection chart, only providing a cell in which you must enter the color code. This is unlike the font color and background color formatting buttons, which pull up a color selection chart. If you don't have a color selection tool available, we have an [incomplete] index of Games Workshop's paint range colors here.   If you are viewing the site on a smaller device such as a tablet or mobile device, you'll see far fewer of the buttons. I'm open to expanding the range of editing options available to members on smaller devices, but [I think] the thought process (on the part of Invision who set the defaults) is that users of smaller devices want less stuff on the screen. If sufficient numbers of smaller device users disagree with that concept and would prefer to have more, or even all, of the buttons available, we can make those changes.   There are some additional buttons that I would like to make available, but I have quite figured out how to make them work. It has been a long time since I wrote HTML or CSS and the code used for these, while working a lot like CSS, is a bit different (and they have probably updated CSS since I played around with it). We lost a lot with the removal of BBCode (I wrote a couple of nifty custom codes that I'd like to reintroduce), but we'll continue trying to expand the options.   I am preparing tutorials for each of the formatting buttons, but I wanted to give everyone a quick introduction to the new buttons.

    • I didn't have a cowl at hand. I looked for something a bit more skull like for the face mask, but this is what I had.   TBH, I thought a hood might look a little off since the cape is skin/leather. I encourage you to give it a go and let us know how it goes. I kept the skulls on the back rack to reinforce the death reference rather than use a corsair or reaper one.
    • Very nice idea. I may eventualy become a copycat for this one as I have an Archon waiting to be used for... something. Do you think a hooded head, either from the Corsair specialist or the Dark Reaper kit might enforce a little bit more the "Grim Reaper" effect  ? Or would it be too close of a Maugan-Ra inspired model?
    • Thank you for the kind words. These do look better from 4’ than 4”.
