AdMech (Defense Cohort, etc) - Warzone Charadon
Colonel Cross replied to Prot's topic in + ADEPTUS MECHANICUS +
If they ever introduce 30k units, THEN this would be a really fun detachment. In fact, I played a narrative game the other day using both, thanks to fanmade Fires of Cyraxus 9th edition rules. The army looked freaking epic. Even though I like a lot of the 40k models, an army of only servitors/robots is my dream. -
Hey thanks for the response! Appreciate it.
-
I thought it was 50-50 considering other factions do the same thing
-
Gaz, what do you think would have happened had your opponent gone first? Also, that list looks like such a hard counter to that Necron list lol. Feel bad for your opponent.

Wow really enjoying the discussion in this thread. Thank you for all who have replied. I've seen plenty of tutorials which use a brown (burnt umber, to be exact) to prime a model they then airbrush red over and it looks really great.

9th Ed points - Knights and Admech
Colonel Cross replied to hermanista's topic in + ADEPTUS MECHANICUS +
If you check out this Goonhammer article, you'll see AdMech was in the top 5 armies with most overall % points increases. They gave us a middle of the road ranking for points increases, really only because they saw the Engine War buffs as incredibly strong (which in my opinion, they were quite strong). However, several units have also taken the nerf bat to the teeth like Ruststalkers, Infiltrators, and most notably, Dragoons (RIP as they were one of my favorite units). The Skorpius and Dunerider were both hit really hard, so we'll have to see how it shakes out, but I'm very hesitant to take my Duneriders anymore at 100pts per model. Just 2 weeks ago I perfected an 8th 2k list using a Mars Brigade. Now that is not possible and I will have slightly fewer CPs upfront. Back to the drawing board ... -
I wonder how the timeline for AdMech concept and design compares to other ranges. I don't typically listen to these voxcasts, but in this one, they inferred this is quite a labor of love and very time consuming for the AdMech.
-
Were there any key takeaways or hints? I tried listening to it while I worked from home but it went in one ear and out the other. I just remember scoffing at the part where they were basically patting themselves on the back for how the whole AdMech range is cohesive and all I could think of was how out of place the Kastellans are, though I absolutely love the model. And I don't feel the Skorpius fits other than the Disintegrator's turret shares a similar shape to the Dunecrawler. Granted, the model has grown on me, but my initial impression was not very positive.

MajorNese's AdMech reboot - project log
Colonel Cross replied to MajorNese's topic in + ADEPTUS MECHANICUS +
Thanks for the response, MajorNese. I'm working on a test turret now. I used the servitor for the Dunerider heavy stubber turret. I then built the Disintegrator turret as normal, but I added a skitarii gunner from the Dunecrawler kit and glued his gunner hands to it. You can't tell he is just floating there when placed onto the turret mount. I added the heavy weapon mount as normal on the gunners left side. And on the right I have magnetized a leftover Daedalus Missile Launcher. I then filed off the mechanicus symbol and glued the heavy stubber on. It looks pretty sweet as the turret shape and missile launcher ties the design back to the Dunecrawler and balances out the look a bit better, in my opinion. -
MajorNese's AdMech reboot - project log

Did you ever find any good turret alternatives? Did you just use some plasticard to take care of the gaps between the Disintegrator top armor and the Dunerider ramp edges? "Last but not least, my first boat. I didn't like the Higgins Boat look entirely, and the design difference between transport and gunboat. So I closed the transport, making it a beach ramming brick, way more brutal than the original look. Once I figure out how to do an enclosed turret with missile launcher, it can run as both variants. So if anyone knows a third party source for enclosed boat turrets, this might help a lot. No way that thing will stay open..." -
I really love these models, it is a shame they are basically in between sizes to be accurate "counts as" for several IG tanks.

Today I finished base coating my shadowsword

Have you ever tried the Crayola air dry clay for sandbags? I can pump out vast quantities of sand bags in an hour or so. Terrain tutor on YouTube taught me how.

Gotta say, the quick spray of varnish was the real deal. No paint peeled up when I removed my stencils . I also tried Tamiya model tape and that stuff is the truth! I can't recommend that enough if you need to tape off anything.

It's happened on normal plastic so I figured resin may be worse? I usually give it a full 24+ hours for the Vallejo airbrush primer to set up. But I had a bit of an "aha!" Moment and hit them all with a thin layer of varnish before applying the stencils. That should work better than just more paint, right? Idk why I didn't think of that before.

Just got a coat of primer on my shadowsword, Avenger, and Manticore. With the Avenger being resin and my camo scheme requiring 2 separate layers of stencils, I think I may go back for another layer of primer? Any thoughts?

Finished up the Sentinels today. Nostromo, the bases are for you, my friend! haha And I stripped my last tank that I probably painted in 1999 or earlier. So once I finish that up, I'll have 8 battle tanks, 2 Hellhounds, 3xChimeras, 2xTaurox, 1 Manticore, 1 Basilisk, 3x Heavy Mortars, 1 Quad Launcher, 1 Wyvern, 3xScout Sentinels, 4xArmored Sentinels, 1 Baneblade, 1 Shadowsword, and 1 Macharius Vulcan. Bring on an Apocalypse battle, haha.

Nostromo, thank you so much for the suggestions! It has been very hot and dry here in Colorado, so I was definitely having difficulty with my highlights. They turned out very ... slight? They are definitely very thin. Even with a wet palette my paint was drying up in minutes! And yeah I intend to work on the power sword. I have been watching tutorials to try and see what method I should try. I have done a few power swords before and have never been happy with how they turn out. Anyways, here is an update on all of my painted armor and just a few guys who were on the table recently. I think this is about 2/3rds of my vehicles/flyers. http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i84/jcross87/Armored%20509th.jpg[/url]

I have a 3rd Valk to build and I have the FW punisher cannons so if you get any tricks you'll have to let me know. I don't like the look of the Vulture so I intend to use the Valk as either. I also have some LEDs I want to put in there! So many projects ... Anyway, here are a few pics of my latest updates. I'll take a group photo of the tanks soon and update. I've never gone to this much detail before, so if anyone has any constructive criticism, feel free by all means.
