  1. From the album: WIP

Mainly he just needs basing now. Comments/ratings welcome!
  2. I have a 20 year collection of IG the problem with a 20 year collection of IG is I have essentially 5-6 sub armies as each edition has come out. No unifiying paint scheme, woefully low amount of heavy weapons (been ripping them appart and rebuilding them with the weapon I want to use) and in general needs a really big overhaul. Back years ago I had a project log on another forum. I thought it was a great success in keeping me busy in building painting models for over 4 years. It pushed me to build to a decent quality and to try new things, my collection greatly expanded and it was a great time. http://i.imgur.com/JhracIfl.jpg Here was my collection at the start of my blog I had. http://i.imgur.com/Np49LCLl.jpg Here it was 4 years later after I got out of college, marriage, got a house and a real job. I built and sold a space marine army and a Tau army too in the process. http://i.imgur.com/XcjYARsl.jpg Amazingly 6 years has past since I stopped my project log. I gave away my warlord Titan (gw wasn't going to build a titan and they weren't going to have rules for it), the war hound did fall apart i didn't. I do plan on rebuilding it. I still have all the flyers. The goal for my rebuild is to do a few things: 1. Uniform paint scheme 2. Modernize my models to the new edition. 3. Make new cool things. 4. Do this efficiently on the wallet. So without further delay the first thing I wanted to fix was my lack of heavy weapons I do have a decent number of them but I didn't have the uniform weapon types, for instance I have steel legion lascannons, cadian plastic, cadian metal and some custom ones. I didn't want to get rid of these and I didn't want to buy a bunch of heavy weapons bits for just a tripod. I have bunches of of the actual weapons but not enough bases or mounts. My solution was to 3d print them. http://i.imgur.com/dfUtkB3l.jpg http://i.imgur.com/uOJoYPEl.jpg My first test peice, similar to the DKOK and the classic style. Takes about 10 minutes to print one and another 10 to print a base but I made more than 20 of these for less than half a 20 dollar spool of printing wire. http://i.imgur.com/zFJP88Cl.jpg Right to mass production. http://i.imgur.com/l4IisWDl.jpg The heavy weapons drop right into the base like a normal tripod. I opted to have 2 types of heavy bolters, the squad mounted ones will be my left over door guns from my valks since they are cut down versions of the heavy bolters. http://i.imgur.com/xCzT3eCl.jpg Heavy bolter mocked up on a 3d printed base. http://i.imgur.com/chalpxml.jpg I love the DKOK heavy weapon on the move just doesn't make sense to have a bunch of them in game aka not shooting. So I just made one clone. http://i.imgur.com/aBgz26Bl.jpg My 18 new heavy weapons, 6 lascannons, 6 HWS heavy bolters, 6 squad heavy bolters. http://i.imgur.com/43dxrgkl.jpg Next thing was to make my scions, I have had 4 boxes of them sitting on my shelf for about 2 years now and I couldn't choose how to make them. Had to go plasma and and bolt pistol in this picture I still had the hot shot in this picture. http://i.imgur.com/ozVaKK9l.jpg The next phase was my only gw purchases so far for 8th. 3 basilisks to make platforms. http://i.imgur.com/LT7erfbl.jpg Company commanders can take shotguns so I had to make at least one. http://i.imgur.com/nMLgl8el.jpg Since SGTs can get cheap bolters I went for this too. Using the spare scion heads for my NCO core. http://i.imgur.com/GDyCe9wl.jpg Officers get some 3rd edition bolters, I don't have many of these left and the look quite different than the stock ones. http://i.imgur.com/dZRpNaxl.jpg http://i.imgur.com/7NCTU9Zl.jpg My unifying paint scheme template. It is similar to my DKOK which I don't want to repaint. I know it is a lot of stuff for one post but I have been contemplating making this post since the start of 8th, just was looking for a good home for it.
  3. !!! IT BEGINS !!! So my dream army since originally laying eyes on the models when they first came out all those years back, has been Krieg. I started with Blood angels way back in 3rd, but ever since FW came out with the Kriegers, I knew what my "main army" was going to be some day when I had the time and swathes of money. And now, it's finally coming to fruition. I'll update this thread/first post with pictures and such as the units finish up & the giant moneysink that is a full Krieg army slowly grows to fruition. The design was to have them as "dark and dirty" as possible, crawling across the board with hordes of bodies in at least every game possible, really taking on their regiment name of "The Dark Legion". I'll make up some regiment number to assign to them down the road to be super fancy... Opted for the full Krieg experience, IE, all the arty crews possible, none of that "on a chimera chassis" nonsense of those hoity-toity other guardsman! Popular opinion incoming: full resin is an absolute pain in the ass in terms of structural integrity/working with it, but damn do the Krieg Models look so damn awesome. It's been many years since I played against any guard army, many many more since I last borrowed and played with a guard army. I'd forgotten just how tiny guardsmen models are. It's pretty awesome how "to scale with the fluff" stuff is with the new line of models. This comparison image with one of my Death Guard, one of my Star Phantoms, and one of my old Blood Angles really shows that off: ----------------------!!! BUT NOW THE ARMY ITSELF !!!---------------------- (You can find front and backs in each units update post, only fronts will be here in this first thread post) Medusa Carriage & Crew #1: Medusa Carriage & Crew #2: Infantry Squad #1: Infantry Squad #2: Bullgryns & Bone'ead: Infantry Squad #3: Infantry Squad #4: Command Squad 1: Command Squad 2: Heavy Mortars: Commissars: Marshal: Combat Engis & Hades Drill: Infantry Squad #5: Infantry Squad #6:
  4. Hello Everyone! The following is a 9th edition adaptation of a list that yielded good results in 8th (I mostly play in TTS until I can afford all the minis). First some notes: # I decided to put everything in a brigade because I tend to spam "overlapping fields of fire" and I need the CP. # I never see the Vindicare in competitive lists, but he drops autarchs and smash captains like flies in turn 1 or 2 and I have come to love him. # The sentinels are not only to fill slots, more often than not my opponent spends valuable antitank shots to remove them instead of targetting the TCs. So they are some insurance if I don't get turn 1. My biggest concern and the reason I am asking for advice is the infantry. I played once with 6 squads and 5 Bullgryns, only to lose because my squads were wiped out by turn 3 and despite the Bullgryns surviving I lost control of the board. This list has 10 vanilla squads, no heavy weapons, no plasma, just some good old FRFSRF wall of guns. Is this an efficient use of points or would you get something else for 200pts? Brigade Detachment 0CP (Imperium - Astra Militarum) [112 PL, 11CP, 2,000pts] Regimental Doctrine: Cadian Stratagems Tank Ace [-1CP] Operative Request Sanctioned [-1CP] Agents of the Imperium Vindicare Assassin [5 PL, 100pts] HQ Company Commander [2 PL, 35pts]: Chainsword, Laspistol, Warlord, Relic: Kurov’s Aquila Company Commander [2 PL, 35pts]: Chainsword, Laspistol 3x Tank Commander [12 PL, 235pts]: Battle Cannon, Lascannon, Plasma Cannons Troops 10x Infantry Squad [3 PL, 50pts] . 9x Guardsman: 9x Lasgun . Sergeant: Chainsword, Laspistol Elites 3x Astropath [1 PL, 25pts]: Telepathica Stave 2x Commissar [2 PL, 20pts]: Bolt pistol Fast Attack 3x Scout Sentinels [3 PL, 45pts] . 5. This is my mostly finished execution platform. As always tend to notice details that need touching up whenever I take photos. The Block itself is a small cardboard box spray painted black and painted light grey with a wide brush. I did this fairly quickly and could probably use some stippling or different grays in order to make the building more windswept and worn as if rocks and ice has chipped away at it over time. The top side staging is an array of square bases that I got from the flagellants box. I don't play AoS but had previously converted some Empire swordsmen into crusaders and wanted the flagellant models because they come with a ton of great bits and just love those models. I cut apart an old Play-doh container from my kids and used that as the plinth for the heretic using super glue to attach it to the cardboard. The stand which the heretic is tied to is the barrel of an auto-cannon that I hadn't used in a heavy weapons squad with a random wreath bit from the swordsmen box. The REPENT scroll on the front is another bit from the flagellants as well as the bell hanging from his thumb in what can only be assumed as a pain ring. The wood at the bottom of the base is a heavy weapon tripod cut up and random bits of plastic cut into rough hewn shapes. As imperial guard players know you always end up with extra torsos and no legs so in order to tie him to the pole I created fake legs by measuring another trooper with legs and cutting a piece of sprue to roughly equal it. I then cut that piece of sprue in half making two rough leg shapes tightly pushed together gluing to the torso. I continued by covering them up behind the yarn which I would have had come up slightly higher in an ideal world. Overall pretty happy with effect keeping them the primer black so as to further hide the fake legs that are cast in shadow instead of painting them white like my troopers' uniforms. My next step for this piece of terrain is to follow Striking Scorpion's youtube tutorial on propaganda posters and plaster the bottom of the platform in posters. I imagine the prisoners so drugged out of their tree they willingly climb the rickety ladder and steps allowing themselves to be secured to the platform. Eventually waking up to quite the shock and awaiting their grisly demise. I went for a very small fire effect as if the battle had interrupted the middle of the execution and the commissar overseer casually tossed his cigarette into the kindling before running off to inspire the troops. The freehand writing I had blocked out in a notebook to make sure I could fit the letters appropriately in the metal plating which I believe came with a vehicle kit in the Apoc or defense force box. I added a servo skull to film the entire ordeal and created a rickety ladder out of two parts of sprue where the vehicle rungs are clipped out of for a leman russ. The steps were rough cut sprue cut progressively shorter and glued edge to edge to form a small set of steps. Definitely needs some propaganda posters to fill it out. The heretic has a mix of imperial guard and flagellant parts. I need to touch up one of his eyes but all in all pretty happy with how he turned out.
  6. From the album: 306th Ronarii Rifles

Want to try some Catachan builds with my custom regiment so kitbashed a Sergeant Harker or as he's known as Baron Steigel. Still need to do some touchups but pretty happy with how ridiculous he is with the eyepatch and custom heavy stubber.

What it says on the tin. Expect varying levels of plasma gun airbrush competency per squad. Progressive improvement each try was had.

Today's progress update. Finished up the final touches to the hades drill and accompanying combat engis. Made them so they could be either: One large 10 man with meltas accompanying the drill for backlines shenanigans Two 6 man squads for concurrent use, one with two meltas to still accompany the drill into backlines, and a 7 man with the mole launcher for main line defense.
