First update is that I've got the basecoat on for my first ten cultists I've stretched the contents of one set of Dark vengeance cultists, plus the five pack box into thirty six cultists so far with a mixture of parts from the empire flagellants kit providing the bulk of the parts. But also featuring old necromunda plastics, crypt ghouls, chaos marauders and whatever else I could get my hands on. (the last four will be based off of push fit cadian as budget was too tight to spring for metal Cawdor and redemptionist gangers from eBay at this time) I've tried to mix up and mess around with the stock cultists as much as possible to avoid repetition, some of these changes were quite easy, others, not so much. I'll be trying to find ways of painting the different parts to really get a feel for the different textures of the fabrics, so there should be hopefully a fair few techniques to try out along the way. Is this too much effort for lowly cultists? Of course it is, but that's not going to stop me. ***Further Update May 2 2020: thanks to replacement image hosting also going behind a big fat pay wall all the completed images have had to be relocated again, they are not currently reposted and I would like to apologise for the lengthy section mid blog with lots of talk about images that no longer exist. That said I have now relocated everything into my bolter and chainsword gallery and will be re-posting stuff over the coming days and weeks. If you get bored of waiting for that feel free to check out Instagram or CMON as most stuff is over there. (Although not everything) *** Please note all old wip images have been removed thanks to the great photobucket policy change of 2017, and completed shots have been posted in new posts from page 3 onward. http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/322456-maligns-litany-of-hate-mk-3-images-restored-from-page-3/?p=4905982 *** This will be my ETL WiP thread, mk3 of my painting log for my long running, oft neglected Word Bearers. You may have expected Valdor to be wearing his usual golden armor. But not this time! We were asked to get him painted for use both as a showcase piece, and as a member of a Shadowkeepers force in Warhammer 40k. That's one of the reasons why his display base is removable, so he can be used in tabletop battles. See the additional photos to see the base removed and the model without the base, as well as additional angles and views on the model. And if you wonder about the blue and red lighting effects on the model, here's the explanation: After researching a bit about Shadowkeepers, Ańa decided to use two kinds and sources of light on the model. Red light coming from below, represented the demonic enemies. Valdor being in charge of troops keeping them in check would counter them with purity of Adeptus Custodes. This is the blue light coming from inside the collar of his armor and shining onto his face. This would also match some details of his armor and the force halberd. Hope it makes sense now And oh, somebody during the Warhammer Community Hobby Roundup mentioned how he reminds of Abaddon. Totally unexpected, but it turned out to be true! You can check it by yourselves. If you want to see more photos, they can bee seen here.

I present for you my recently completed Heldrake, I've soent the last six months on this beast of a model, it's been thoroughly enjoyable to be fair, I hope you'll think that I've done it justice. I made some slight alterations to the 'drake adding some Maulerfiend tentacles to bulk out the tail, and reposing the rear legs to mount it on the column crowing over the charred remains of its latest victim. It's taken approximately six months start to finish although there was a marked drop off in work rate in late summer due to heat and the truncated cricket season. This is also the first thing I've finished with Artis Opus brushes and I'd say they are easily thre best I've used so far, will be looking to pick up some more of those. I did use thier drybrush method at times, although using makeup brushes, which worked well, I'll be looking into how i can incorporate more of tht into future projects. Anyway, enough words, let's have some pictures! Thanks for looking, let me know what you think!

His Finest Creations - Adeptus Custodes in NMM
Wrath of Bruinen posted a topic in + HALL OF HONOUR +
I am everything the Emperor dreamed Humanity could be. There is no greater blessing, and no greater burden, to be His perfection made manifest. I have no peers in the arts of war, philosophy, politics or poetry. Every fibre of my being is a tribute to His greatest works, and his vision for Mankind. I am Adeptus Custodes. I am Charlemagne Aurveskar, Prefect of the Aquillan Host. And I am His finest creation. Hi everyone, Decided to finally paint the Emperor's favourite golden boys from my BoP set. Hoping to expand out into a kill team and maybe more - just have to see if I have the patience to do all those highlights all over again.... Anyways, hope you enjoy...- 5 replies

Here's my year in review: 9 models each of which I am really happy with, I have learned a lot painting each of these and think I am close to taking my painting to a new level thanks to techniques I have experimented with and picked up this year. I've started to use glazes for the first time which I think has improved my nmm. I also have to say that the move to a wet pallette has been a useful addition, I'm not 100% convinced I'm using it to its fullest potential yet, but it certainly has stopped paint drying up on the brush as I paint. I was able to successfully complete my vow in the ETL and even picked up an Artificer badge which was an honour. That being said I entered the obliterator into Everchosen and didn't even place in my local store vote. I did however pick up a third place and a second place for my new Lord and Sorcerer models respectively in other local competitions which is leading me to think of trying to really push myself and enter some bigger competitions next year. Overall I'm pretty pleased with my hobby for 2019 and I'm looking forward to finishing some current projects and embarking on new ones in 2020. Please share your own hobby achievements for 2019 with me and your plans for the new year!
