So what does this mean:

Do not cast any materials that are based upon Games Workshop material. Games Workshop has to maintain a strict policy on this to fight counterfeiters. We would also remind you that reproduction for personal use is NOT an automatic exclusion in respect of copyright protection in many territories worldwide.

If your right I'll do thousands of crazy things alter them and cast them. I was however contacted years ago by a man named Hugo Pritchard a lawyer from the UK who told me I was not allowed to make and cast parts from a rhino I did that was altered, and said they would get into legal action with me, so once again just be prepared.

Well I just read the B&C rules and regulations and they seem to be fine with this also so I'm ready to see more myself. I was more worried about the forum but if they are ok with it I am to, and since I already know how to cast stuff like this lets see some updates.

Just a bit of advice, if these were done in silicon and you are scraping the molds you can cut those molds into chunks and pour rubber push chunks into the fresh rubber, pour more add chunks, and repeat using half the rubber for new molds. The sillicon bonds together perfectly and you will never know. Make sure any pieces are free of mold release however if you use it. I never need or use it with the rubber I pour. :)

As quoted from the Rules of the PC&A:

A tried and true hobby "tool" and a hotly debated topic on the B&C over the past 7 years. Currently you are allowed to discuss casting techniques. Given it's volume out on the web chances are you know how to do it already. You can even give tutorials on how to build moulds and the best resin in your opinion to use.

If at any time a mod feels that a casting post has gone beyond the realm of "personal use" it is at the moderators discretion as to whether the thread will stay open.

Keep in mind that counterfeiting (recasting and selling for your own profit) is illegal and Games Workshop will prosecute people for it. If it is shown that a user account or thread is dealing with casting for the purpose of counterfeiting the user account will be dealt with severely!

Paper templates are a cheap and some would say easy way to get some structures, vehicles and other model aspects built for gaming. GW however frowns on templates which too closely mimic their IP (and rightly so). So you can post your paper templates, however some things to keep in mind:

* The B&C does not condone using paper templates that mimic GW models.

* You cannot host your templates on the B&C. Those who are found to have uploaded them to their user gallery, BLOG or other B&C resource location will have the templates removed and risk losing access to those areas of the website.

* If at any point Games Workshops requests a post or thread containing templates to be removed we will do so without hesitation.

As long as those guidelines are adhered to, there aren't any problems. However, if GW was to come in and actively state they do not like what they see, we will with no hesitation close and purge the thread.

Rules aside, i'm enjoying seeing the progress made and look forward to seeing this project grow.

These are purely for personal use, i an assure you. This little project is something i want to see through to the end, so i don't want to ruin that.

Thank you! Progress will halt until after Christmas as i am now in Germany with the British Army, but i shall return on Christmas eve.

I know its early but, i hope you all have a good Christmas!

Ah! I wondered where you'd gone. :) Hopefully I'll catch you soon so we can discuss things. :) Looking forward to your progress on these guys.

Sorry matey, i was in such a bloody mess before i went i forgot to tell you! ^_^

Anyway as many of you know i am in the British Army and i am currently on assignment in Germany. I took my sculping bits out with me to Germany and have been working on a few delights when i have been able to, so far only about 4 hours in total. Funny story goes with this as i didn't write on the item sheet i had brought this stuff with me and so i got a knock at the door by a German Military Policeman saying that because i had "smuggled in unexpected items" he confiscated all my sculpting stuff and my "toys" as he called them, and i wont be able to get them back until the day before i leave, can you beleive that? Bloody Germans haha. :D

This is what i managed to do in those few hours i had.

First off the backpack:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/Pulsey/WIP%20work/back2.jpg

As you can see from these pics, its nothing really that special but i wanted the backpack to look true the IF on the first page of this thread. :)

Second, the helmet - First attempt.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/Pulsey/WIP%20work/helmet2ndatt.jpg

I thought this first attempt was good, as it was the first time i had ever tried to work on a helmet, but the vent slits started to annoy me as they were to big, so it led me on to this:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/Pulsey/WIP%20work/helmetfinal2.jpg

I am much happier with this adjustment, although i only made the vent slits a touch thinner and added a slight curve to them, i think it gives the helmet a much better look.

Finally the kneeling legs. These i will be using in my Star Lord fire teams, one maybe two per 5 man squad.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/Pulsey/WIP%20work/kneeling1.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/Pulsey/WIP%20work/kneeling3.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/Pulsey/WIP%20work/kneeling2.jpg

To make these legs i used a spare cast, i just adjusted the legs by cutting behind the knees, on the hips and the foot. I had to put the rock under the knee as for some reason the armour looked rather strange if i bent it any futher.

Thats your lot for the time being, what do you lot think?

I can't believe the Scheis' Piefke took your tools. That's ridiculous.

Could you point me toward a good article or two on making casts for part?

Don't worry, GW, I'm more interested in casting standard interlocking parts like pillars and floors to make a stair-stepped display for my little guys.

Lookin' great! Only tweak I'd make would be to cut the 'ears' down to an angle, as shown in this awesome Goodwin sketch.

Mixing in the kneeling legs will add a lot of dynamism to the force, and they look cool too. My favourite bit is the backpack

I like the sketch but i won't be angling the ear sections though, looks far to bat like matey!

Mixing in the kneeling legs will add a lot of dynamism to the force, and they look cool too. My favourite bit is the backpack – really sharp greenstuffing, and the studs are perfect. Any plans for marine lying prone on their bellies? It'd really show off the greenstuff work, and highlight the 'modern' nature of Mark VIII.

I have though about this but my answer is a no. The reason for this is Astartes are a hard hitting force, rather than a slinky sneaky force. I would consider a few chapter scouts laying down though. Progress for the scout squads will start in the new year. :P
