Very nice work from everyone in this thread so far. Master Chaplain, may I suggest putting magnets in Astorath's feet and on the original base? You could then make him a smaller base with magnets as well. It seems like the best of both worlds to me.

 

James, your marine is looking fantastic as well. The skull and red X on his shoulder pad are truly sublime. The face is also very well done. I can't wait to see him with his wings.

Well the legs from the Sanguinary Guard kit fit perfectly into both spots without magnets. I could drill and pin him into both bases, but it makes it inconvenient to sell either model whereas making a separate model for the dual allows me to still pin him but he can be removed for game-play while I keep the model for my personal army! :(

 

Note to self: Post may need revision with a better answer when I am not suffering sleep deprivation and alcohols effects. :P

ok...still can't get my wifes camera to take any good shots. I tried the macro setting and the super macro setting and put it on auto and still

can't get a clear shot. my wife says its because its only a 4.0 pixel. EEERRRR....dang fangled machines! oh well...in the mean time your guys stuff

has been really inspiring. Also I remember seeing somthing about a logo in this thread...is there any word on that? I have come up with a litte somthing

I did at work, and would like to throw my name in the hat, if thats ok. I will post it later today, (when the boy is taking his nap :P ) and see what you guys think.

That's a real shame! :) I just use my camera phone, but I'm lucky to have the new iphone so it works out pretty well. But the other thing would to just keep playing with the camera, sometimes it just takes time to figure out settings that work. :)

@Shorts its not that I have set myself "high" standards its just I think it looks to brown i didnt water the flesh wash down enough an it nuked it, I know i not going to get it spot on as i'm by no means the best painter just want it looking a bit better.

 

I have decided white is a pita to paint, Lots & lots of layers still need to start the legs and go over a bit of it sill but here its is so far,

Also do we think the gold trim is ok ?

Gold looks good. I don't know what you're trying to achieve with the rest of the model, but right now, I think that it looks like the gold is weathered. So if you do the same with the entire model, it should look great.

@ Khornatekiller - the pre-heresy colour scheme is looking fantastic. The WE's blue and white scheme is one of my favourites - the gold makes it stand out more too.

@ Astador - The DA is coming along nicely. The highlights and shading are looking nice.

@Pig - The lighter colour of the loicloth really adds to the model. Maybe you could add a little freehand to it?

@ KhornateKiller: The colour scheme is starting to take shape a little more now and I like what I'm seeing. As Shorts said, the gold has a nice weathered look to it (almost a beaten look) which if you carry across to the rest of the mini will make it look really good.

but realised when I look at these photos that his head is slightly out of line with where he's pointing the flamer. I think I'm gonna have to pop it out and turn in to the right slightly (his right not ours )

 

He's very nearly finished now, just a few details left to finish. The promethium tank on the flamer, the highlights on the blood drop's rims and anything else I might have missed...

 

I've also got some pics of my progress with the Daemon Prince bust that I posted up a couple of days back. I'm actually almost starting to enjoy sculpting, it seems to be getting a bit easier to do as well :).

Maybe a group of three blood drops would work - one large and a smaller one either side. Or some illuminated script - as if it's a page copied out of a book.

 

Personaly, I would keep it simple with something along the lines of blood drops or the chapter symbol. If it's too fancy, it will pull focus away from the face.

Well I started knocking together my prince bust as well tonight.

Everything is pinned together and ready for the sculpting work. But I still haven't decided what to do for the back if I am going to leave it open or I can plasticard over it to create a hollow center and a flat back panel. Thoughts?

An idea I've just had for the left over Prince parts, is to have them emerging from a Chaos portal. You could model it as if they are stepping through from the warp to our plane of reality. Something like a smooth, almost mirror like portal with the Princes upper body and arms pushing through - maybe a knee or lower leg too.

 

PS - the updates for the Jetbike I'm working on will be in a seperate thread for it. Of course, there is also a topic open on the IBH forum as well if you want a look ;)

I'll have a think about freehand over tha next couple of days Lestat and see what I can come up with ;). The idea for the Daemon Prince portal is really good, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it work, the only plastic parts I've got are the ones pictured (no legs or anything). That said, it is a great idea and does warrant further consideration :).

 

Astador, looks like you're off to a good start with your bust. I just checked out the 'jigsaw' bust and it looks fantastic. It could be something to consider for both or us. Looking again at mine I think that once I'm done adding all the stuff to the sides I could just fill in any gaps I've got and be ready to go... except for Lestat's idea :tu:.

 

Inspired by Lestat I decided to build a 'bank holiday' project as well. A quick brainstorm with my brother this morning led to this mk V-ish Assault Marine.

 

Oh and once I hear from Rider-75 that he's back from his trip and all set to begin we'll be announcing what our secret project is.....

Looking good Khornatekiller, but I think you could do with using a couple of washes to add a bit of depth and definition.

 

Some blood splatter would be fitting too!

On the white, use a watered down blue wash and allow it to pool and collect in the recesses and around the rivets/studs. On blue, a badab black wash would work - but keep it to the recesses just to add definition. Sepia works well on the gold.
