AVE DOMINUS NOX, ladies and gents.

Since I haven't worked with the retinue for the lord as I intended, I thought I could post some WIP-shots that never made it to the CoC competition, as an excuse. So here they are:

We'll see what comes next...

'till then - stay tuned.

Hm...

AVE DOMINUS NOX, ladies and gents.

Without further ado I came here to present some random guy to you:

The previous version that made it to paintjob...

...and the current version:

This was the worst miniature I worked with. I promise I won't make such a poor conversion (in terms of quality) ever again.

EDIT: oh yeah, he requires much more work still, I know. But maybe another time...

DV

He looks amazing with paint on :) you may not like it but I think all the details look amazing keep up the cracking work.

Tarvik

Many thanks :) almost 10 painted and 10 more unconverted, to be exact.

Squeaky

Thanks! Still I want to improve him a little and reupload better pics.

Brother Heinrich

Strength in numbers. 10 termies with a lord (especially when they have 4++ and 3++ respectively) are durable enough to kick almost any kind of ass :) you should definitely give it a try, especially when your miniatures are so cool looking.

hmmm, hadn't thought of that. You run mark of Tzeentch I take it?

Yes.

I played Apocalypse game two or three weeks ago with 10 termies, lord and sorcerer. After deep strike they've accumulated every template my opponent had in range (that are vindicator cannon, heavy flamer and baneblade) and few other nasty things like psychic shriek and lascannons. Even taking my poor planning into account they lost only about 3 to 4 models (excepting lord, lol) and then charged into close combat like a grinder.

10 termies+lord is very expensive though - it's about about 600-700 points.

Gotta be honest Ven.

The overall concept of the model is spectacular like I've said before, but that helmet just does not do the rest of the model justice, especially now that its painted. The simple fact that he can't even turn his head is probably one of the big reasons. I would strongly urge you to look into using something else, but of course that's just my opinion so take it with a desert of salt.

The only other thing I can comment on is the fingers.I think the bone look on them for some reason looks rather strange and more or less pulls the eye away from the details. I would recommend you paint them red. The red color of the power claw fingers you used on the previous terminators looks extremely solid and keeps with the color pattern. At the same time it would also lend to some continuity within your model line.

Just my thoughts man. Can't wait to see more of your stuff.

Many thanks, noctus.

Yes, I see now, that the helmet is one of the weakest parts of the miniature (along with shoulder pads and cloak). I really want to fix it - and I think I know few possible options.

I just though it was too much red on him, that's why I painted power parts yellow. But I admit that they don't look as good as they could, I might also redo that part.

Given the nature of your other terminator models and the grill teeth you have given to a few, I would recommend instead of making your own, use the helmet from the Lord Zhufor model. Its been used a few times before by other people but I honestly have to say that it would look best on your guy. I think they would go perfect together and requite little effort on your part except for maybe removing the tusks if you don't want them on. That helmet exudes terror like nothing else.

I can see what you mean about the red, especially with the inside of the cloak being red aswell and so close to the hands. However, I would still recommend you use the same color as the other fists, since the red in the cloak, as far as I can tell, is a different color from the claws.

noctus cornix

Hm, no I won't use Zhufor's helmet by any mean. Firstly, I don't have it; secondly - I won't fit with this model. I intended the helmet being both 'skullish' and smaller replica of a normal terminator helmet. I may rework it, and I'll probably add teeth-like grill. But I won't make mutated helmet. Only look-a-like stylization.

Lexington

I'm always there. But sometimes I take a vacation.

Same for me, as I watch most of films in Russian and don't get references in English, except for the most famous ones.

  • 2 weeks later...

i like the new terminators, but i can't stand the hair on one of them. the helmetless sanguine guard head with the original hair still schowing in the front. you should add more structure to that, because as it comes of the sprue, the top of his hair is totally smooth. it might just be the pictures, but the transition between original hair (plastic) and new hair (green stuff) doesn't look right to me.

hope i'm making sense hereteehee.gif

keep it up :tu:

Wicced

I got that, will fix it.

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT, ladies and gentlemen! :)

Pretty long ago, I've bought a few Iron Warriors from my friend:

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6zbzvtrUDQY/UwJvRwwxEGI/AAAAAAAAAWM/AT15uNID2RQ/s1600/IW_1.JPG

Nothing special. I just wanted to keep them save and take a part of former the most formidable Chaos Space Marine force in our club (I'm speaking about 15/20k points at their finest hour), since my friend was making a sale. I don't know whether or not I will repaint them my style, but that's not the case now.

The case is this:

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-z6CI7s3rBh0/UwJvTZoEekI/AAAAAAAAAWU/Eem0M41DP-E/s1600/Defiler_1_2.jpg

This model was lying around for a few good years, and only now I've managed to paint it (for those who's interested - this was the Defiler I wanted to make for the CoC). I've kept it almost unchanged and added only few little details that would not disturb the overall look, because I believe that this is one of the most awesome models in csm model range. The only thing I've must go crazy with was the helmet - because the original one was ruined, and I couldn't find a spare one.

And like the Azanael, the Defiler requires much additional work. I've missed all the highlights and almost all the shadows that would make this model even more awesome. But if I wouldn't post it now - this thread would go into Warp for another few decades...

DV

I could easily "Like" every picture in this thread! Since I can't, I'll go with the Iron Warriors Defiler, because it's the most recent and the Iron Warriors are my main interest in 40k. But well painted Night Lords are easily the coolest CSM to look at. I wish I had some helpful critique to offer, but your work is way above the level I'm working at.

Awesome stuff, man. A quick question... the old version of your Night Lord Warlord in Terminator plate, was he gutted to make the newer version, or do you still have him about? The blunt helm and plate would make an outstanding leader for your Iron Warriors, if you trimmed away the shoulder 'wings' and added some rivets and chevrons.

Y'know. Just sayin'. ;)

Join the IV legion. Do it. Join us. Join us.

Diggin' the shaved down helm on that defiler. Really fits the "no-nonsense" vibe that Iron Warriors have. Not too sure about the "Mark 1" stencil though, doesn't really seem like something a Demon engine would have on it, but thats just me.

Looks great Ven! Those defilers have a ton of small bits and detail that are a real endurance trial to paint.

Have to say I kinda like the MARK1 label. It's like a left over remnant of the machine the defiler used to be before it exploded into a giant robot daemon spider ^_^

Sorry guys, I felt asleep right after I've posted pics.

noctus cornix

You are right. I prefer to see it like a small group of marines bonded together decided to join my warband after their own has fallen apart.

forte

To be honest, I haven't saved anything from Defiler - it seems like all the spare bits are already used in other miniatures. The Def itself was built from random parts I could find for this weapon choice.

Tanith Ghost

Honestly, these allied happened by accident. I have never thought that my force will include any allies - but looking into my boxes, looks like there are at least 2 more legions waiting to be presented. As for a proper IW leader, my Call of Chaos vow may cast some light on it msn-wink.gif

-Max-

Many thanks for kinds words smile.png I myself like cold-minded efficient Iron Warriors too, as the opposite to classic cruel and somewhat savage Night Lords. Beside that, they have very different painting scheme what makes them nice thing to paint while I'm stuck with the VIIIth a bit.

1000heathens

I've gutted him bloody with body parts flying all around my room. The first version serves as a base for the second one, while I saved some parts (like back part) that turned out nice almost unchanged.

About Iron Warrior leader - right at the moment I see them as heavy mechanized somewhat fantasy-stylized marines. So the leader will be kinda mix of knight armor, iron man armor, recent daemon engines chassis and random pure fantasy details. But I'll keep in mind the concept of a 'blunt' helmet.

Do you guys have cookies in your legion?

Brother Heinrich

Thanks, brother smile.png speaking of stencil - Mk1 is Defiler, Mk2 are Fiends. I didn't want to miss an opportunity to draw a connection between these two walkers, since I'm making my own version of Maulerfiends.

Flint13

You will laugh, but the Defiler is painted almost entirely with drybrush and washes only. Exceptions are freehands and black parts. I've spent about a day and half painting it from black base to final colored version.
