Word Bearers...plus allies. B&C Marine 7/11/17

Well i took me quite some time to post some pics of my minis in these hallowed halls.

I started my Word Bearers several years ago (around the time of the 4th edition Codex) and they have been a project that has developed since then. I have a nasty habit of allowing myself to be far too easily distracted. As a result many of my marines are in a kind of 'painting limbo'. Almost finished but not quite. This is the main reason i have decided to start this thread in the WIP forum. Hopefully it will give me the motivation i need to continue building on my WBs and their allies.

My Berzerkers were the second squad i painted. As soon i got my hands on the Berzerkers kit i knew i had to fix the old and out of date arms and weapons. For this i used a combination of CSM and marauder arms with the newer CSM weapons.

I intended to give the Apostle a terminator body guard...but got side tracked by A D-B's Blood Reaver...and so i have just made a start at a 'true scale' NL.

Looks amazing, really really like everything about him, pose, coulors, shading... The NL looks like he is gonna be awesome, look forward to seeing how he progresses!

As for the Berzerkers, how about removing the specific Khornate icons? The Word Bearers frown upon worshipping a single Chaos God, as in that they worship the entire pantheon. You could have them be close combat veterans whilst using Berzerker rules.

The Apostle makes me think of the guy on the front of the chaos codex, who looks to be in some mix of power and terminator armor and is certainly larger.

Yeah i use the berzerkers as regular WE 'zerkers and there are more to come. I have a squad of FW 'zerkers that are currently under construction (i love the detail on the FW stuff). My WB have a few allies in in the host that are not from the legion. For example my IW Obliterators and Defiler (i'll post some pics soon). I also tend to paint up any other chaos minis i like regardless of legion.

Nice to see some more Word Bearers around, one thing I would like to point out is that the gold on the khorne icons on the chests of the bezerkers is brilliantly done, you've really managed to give them a depth that I rarely see.

 

Good job on the lord as well, I was planning on stealing the writing idea for mine but completely forgot when I got round to it! damn!

I eventually plan on true scaling the whole of 1st Claw and i have just started on Talos. Any ideas regarding what to use to represent Talos' BA relic blade would be appreciated. I can't decide whether to use regular marine bases or go for the larger terminator bases. Termie bases look more appropriate size wise and would allow for more intricately detailed bases. Regular bases make much more sense as far as using them in games is concerned. Opinions?

 

I'm very average with Green Stuff (hopefully any faults can be minimised with a good paint job) and a complete novice of true scaling so any C&C is much appreciated.

Hey dude looking really nice so far. Concerning bases, ebay is your friend, search for 30mm bases there perfect, as their decernerably different to termi bases, yet still large enough to accomodate all but the widest stance (found in the GK termi set), these are what I use on my TS Dark Angels

Dude i just finished blood reaver too that book was epic, cant wait to see the rest of first claw cyrion looks like a total boss. I would recommend for talos's blade a sanguinary guard sword, at least for the hilt and then maybe a grey knights sword for the blade. Also you should do Xarl next because he is awesome...just saying.

@daemonclaw: Yeah both feet are a bit off. Quite annoying. I'll have to fix them durring the basing process.

 

@vezok the annihilator: Thanks. I didn't think Cyrion was broad enough across the shoulders so i added a little green. I'll try to fill the gaps before painting.

 

@Mr.Malevolent: Thanks mate. Happy you like the Apostle.

 

@LordSion: The severed head is from one of the shield in the WHFB marauders of chaos kit. The marauders kit is an excellent resource for anyone working on CSM.

 

@popkhorne: Completely agree regarding Blood Reaver. I already have a sang' guard kit and i agree that a GK blade would look awesome. Thanks heaps.

 

@Grotsmasha: Thanks thats really helpful mate. Definitely leave the pic up as it might also help others. Also your DA truescales are awesome. Very inspirational, especially the Terminators :devil:

First off is my Warsmith conversion. I wanted him to look like Graham McNeill's Honsou (i think the silver arm is on the wrong side though).

Wow, those are simply awesome. What colours did you use for the source lighting on the eyes? I use a similar technique with my models using green, but I've found it difficult to find the right recipie for a red glow. I'd really appreciate a stage by stage. The true scaling too is fantastic. You have a lovely army, kudos
