by all the dark gods kizzdogs if I ever learn to pain metallics like that ... I dunno it'll never happen anyways

Thanks, bro!! My metallics are pretty basic. The gold is just Gehenna's Gold with a Agrax Earthshade wash and a Runefang Steel highlight. The Silver is Ironbreacker with a Nuln Oil wash and a Runefang Steel highlight. Nearly everything I paint is based on a similar three step principle.

I have some reservations about the Contemptor's pose, but there is nothing whatsoever to complain about with regard to the paint job. Superlative as usual, an excellent addition to the force and a good piece to follow up those outstanding Terminators and Praetor (sweet Emperor he was brilliant).

Thanks, dude! Yeah, the pose isn't great. Glad you like the paint job though :)

The legionaries with their metallics finished

Frankly, I'm in awe of how you're able to paint things so quickly and yet maintain such a ludicrously high standard. Incredible work!

Thanks, bro! Since I started in the hobby I've managed to massively reduce the time I spend painting a single mini. Sometimes I feel that I've lost something by dumbing down and speeding up my painting method, so it's really nice to hear that you like the results. Sometimes I spend a bit more time on a particular mini if it's a one off piece that I'm doing purely for the enjoyment of the exercise. Unfortunately, nearly all of the minis that I put the most effort into can't be shared on this forum.

ETL IV: VOW III UPDATE

The Veterans are nearly done. I just need to highlight the black areas (knife sheaths, pistol holsters, bolter casings etc.), paint the plasma coils and finish off the details such as the Sergeant's oath of moment. I've also started working on the bases, but just realised that I'm going to be short by a single 32mm base...

Also, if you haven't already, you should definitely check out the awesome Eye of Horus podcast. It's a weekly podcast dedicated to everything 30K. If you're into the Horus Heresy it makes for some pretty great listening whilst you paint up your latest project.

Thanks for looking ;)

I wish you were painting for Chaos. These always look excellent and your press moulding is spot on.

Haha, if FW hadn't gone and produced the range of minis that I've always wanted (Horus Heresy), I'd still be painting for chaos. Actually I'd probably be just painting fantasy, but Chaos would still be my primary B&C appropriate army.

On the other hand, I'm glad you're painting Heresy right where you should be :biggrin.: (#notbiased)

Keep up the unfairly pretty work!

Also just noticed the Sgt's backpack is all gold and silver. Good touch there.

Thanks Flint! Heresy is definitely where it's at ;) I've tried to mix a couple of gold coated power-packs through the veteran squads to add variety.

I too am glad you're painting for the Heresy. They look very nice. The Pheonecian helmets are growing on me.

Thanks, dude! Personally I think the Phoenician helms are probably the best upgrade kit that FX has released so far. They fit really nicely on all of the armour marks and look particularly good with an added crest on top (like in the Collected Visions artwork).

More beautiful EC.

I really dig the ornamentation you have going. Every man looks like a soldier, despite the filigree. They get a record 7 thumbs up from me. lol

Thanks, bro! Glad to hear that they still look soldiery. Sometimes it seems that people forget that the Emperor's Children are transhuman killing machines, just like the other Legions.

If you ever need any spare cash, I'm still in the market for a portion of your soul-talent.

Just sayin'

:tongue.:

Haha, good to know that I've got a fall back plan if I ever hit rockbottom :P

I cant help but admire your Emperors Children.

Thanks, dude! I'm sure the legionaries would be pleased to hear that.

Wow, I don't even like purple and I'm still blown away.  That is some excellent work there, kizzdougs!  What sort of basing will you be going for?

Thanks, bro! I'm going for an industrial/docking bay/naval theme with my bases. These legionaries will be based in the same way as my other EC.

these look great. Excellent purple, and as others have said, your metal work really stands out-- congratulations on a beautiful army.

Thanks, mate! Really pleased you like the army :)

I have finally read through the entire thread. Loving your work even if you did start with the glorious Thousand Sons and move onto the Emperors Children instead. ;)

Keep up the good work and I look forward to seeing things as they progress from here. I think my own painting and thread has a long way to go before catching up to you.

Best EC out there I think. I really would love to see a group shot of all this awesome

Thanks, dude! High praise indeed. I took a group picture the other day but couldn't get the lighting right. Plus a wider camera lens would really help. I'll see what I can do on the week end :)

They're perfect in all possible ways (kitbashing, painting, bases...) but I always have a preference for your metallics. Awesome.

Thanks, bro! Looking forward to seeing some more of your Legio V warriors :tu:

Inspiring as always Kizzdougs! Love the subtle OSL on the eyes

Thanks, mate! I always try to keep the OSL fairly discreet so I'm glad to hear that you like it.

These look awesome dude! I wish NL had some blade duders like those Palatine Blades! I'm looking forward to seeing your Sicaran; I'm planning on putting an order in for one soon for my 1k point list so I'd be curious to see how it comes together!

Thanks, dude! I recon the FW Night Raptors would be perfect if you're looking for some nice NL sculpts. They're covered in detail and come in really dynamic poses. I'll probably work on the Spartan before the Sicaran Venator, but just looking at the kit it looks really great. Definitely much easier to assemble than the Spartan.

I have finally read through the entire thread. Loving your work even if you did start with the glorious Thousand Sons and move onto the Emperors Children instead.

Thanks, mate! I'm sure that when FW brings out some Thousand Sons I'll be all over them :P I've always had a soft spot for the XV Legion.

The Veterans are finished... except for the bases.

I can't believe how oversized the MkIII helmet looks with the MkII armour...

I'm working on the base now. Hopefully I'll get them finished on the weekend and then I'll be able to declare my third ETL vow complete.

Thanks for looking ;)
