The Death Guard Marine is awesome! Imo perfect weathering, clearly dented and scratched Armor, subtle discoloration and dirt, love it!

Oh and your Defenders of Tera Marines look awesome too! :)

The Death Guard legionnaire is finished! I hope you like him :)

I thought that I'd add some more group pics because people seem to like them.

Oh great looking battle damage on that death guard. How did you paint the armour? With washes or layering?

Thanks, bro! The armour is painted with washes and sponging. I took some step by step pics while I was painting so as soon as I get some time I'll do a write up and post the pics.

That Death Guard is phenomenal.

Thanks a lot, mate!

Thanks a lot! I hope you like weathering powder that I added. Hopefully it's not too much.

FINALLY!!! Oh man, it is a glorious day when you finally represent the best Legion!

Hahaha, I'd been planning to paint a Death Guard warrior for ages but never got around to doing it until now. I hope he meets your expectations.

Mate I love the thread as a whole but I love that white scar you've painted

Thanks for the kind words, and I'm glad you like the White Scar.

So much win throughout this entire thread! Love your Death Guard model as well!

Thanks a lot bro! Glad you like him.

Thanks for looking ;)

Once again, fantastic stuff! And yes, those group pictures are indeed very much appreciated! :)

On a related note, have you ever trued to send these to WD? Because when I saw that spread of Mk IV Marines in different legion colours in the last issue of Visions, I couldn't help thinking: These are okay, but they should really have used kizzdougs' models because they are so much cooler! ;)

Fabulous work on the group as a whole, Kizzdougs. Tempted to take a crack at older depictions of the Legions? Y'know, like the Saturnyne Rams (aka early Salamanders), the Imperial Heralds and the War Hounds?

You've surpassed them, man... definitely top notch. You make me feel like a kid with crayons. I love that green as well, definitely eye catching!

Alright, first up let me apologies for the poor quality of the photos that I took. My regular painting lamp broke just before I started work on the Death Guard legionnaire so I had to use my reading lamp instead. Unfortunately my reading lamp gives off a fairly yellowish light which is great for reading, but terrible for taking pictures of miniatures. So I apologise for the discolouration in the photos...

I started off with an undercoat of Games Workshop's Corax White spray.

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l522/kizzdougs/DSCN4127_zps96tqun3g.jpg

Next up I gave the armour a wash with Seraphim Sepia. I concentrated the wash in the joints and around rivets etc.

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l522/kizzdougs/DSCN4128_zpsiqfcrgdy.jpg

I followed this by sponging on a 1/1 mix of Screaming Skull and White Scar. This stage was done fairly freely and I wasn't too worried about mistakes at this stage.

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l522/kizzdougs/DSCN4129_zpsfkraanf8.jpg

I then 'black lined' the armour with the ever faithful Agrax Earthshade. This stage isn't essential, but it helps to add a bit of definition to the armour.

Next up I painted Abaddon Black on all the areas that where going to be painted with a metallic colour.

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l522/kizzdougs/DSCN4131_zps7yqe1tvp.jpg

The shoulder pads were painted with Waaaagh! Flesh.

The shoulder pads where then washed with Agrax Earthshade.

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l522/kizzdougs/DSCN4132_zpslf2ldnvn.jpg

Next I sponged some Snot Green (Warpstone Glow equivalent) onto the pads.

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l522/kizzdougs/DSCN4134_zpsnvktixpu.jpg

I then painted Ironbreaker and Gehenna's Gold onto the areas that had previously been painted black.

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l522/kizzdougs/DSCN4134_zpsnvktixpu.jpg

I then washed both colours with Agrax Earthshade. Usually I don't use Earthshade on silver/steel colours, but it seemed appropriate for the XIV Legion.

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l522/kizzdougs/DSCN4138_zpsxlbjgvz7.jpg

The Ironbreaker was then washed with Nuln Oil.

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l522/kizzdougs/DSCN4139_zps6ixvzfw2.jpg

I then highlighted both the Ironbreaker and Gehenna's Gold with Runefang Steel. I also painted the eye slit with Khorne Red.

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l522/kizzdougs/DSCN4139_zps6ixvzfw2.jpg

The eye slit was then highlighted with Blood Red (Evil Sunz Scarlet equivalent).

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l522/kizzdougs/DSCN4143_zps4staqsnx.jpg

I then painted a thin line of Blood Red around the edge of the helmet's vision slit. I also painted the freehand on the shoulder pads using a 2/1 mix of White Scar and Screaming Skull. Any mistakes were corrected using the original base colour ie Waaagh! Flesh.

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l522/kizzdougs/DSCN4147_zpsbd870j1j.jpg

The tactical symbol on the knee pad was painted with Waaagh! Flesh.

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l522/kizzdougs/DSCN4148_zpsxdmwlott.jpg

I then sponged some Abaddon Black over the freehand. This stage can be used to obscure any mistakes or problems with the freehand.

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l522/kizzdougs/DSCN4149_zpsap4rr9jf.jpg

I used the White Scar/Screaming Skull mix to weather the freehand on the knee pad.

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l522/kizzdougs/DSCN4150_zpsgqxv94w4.jpg

The last step was to highlight the armour with White Scar.

Glad you're doing a step by step for the DG

Thanks, bro. Hope you enjoy it.

Only seven more to go before you have the whole eighteen legions. :tongue.:

He looks good; I love the little skull on his base.

Hahaha, yeah getting there slowly.

Thanks, dude! No, I've never sent any pictures to the WD team. I've considered it before, but never got around to doing it. I'll definitely consider it when I've painted one of each of the Legions.

Thanks, bro! I haven't really thought about early Legion depictions yet. I'll definitely have to think about it, but it probably won't happen until I've painted each of the 'regular' schemes first.

They all look beautiful man, looking forward to the step by step for the Death Guard!

Thanks, mate! Hope you like the step by step.

Amazing work as always Kizz. Would love to see your take on the first legion.

Thanks, bro! Don't worry, the 1st Legion will get it's time in the sun.

The Death Guard better why out there's an eversor underneath him.....

I could do this all day

Of course, brother. I wouldn't expect any less. :tu:
