Just finished my third ETL vow!

I'm planing a small, Terminator heavy, ZM list for him to lead.

That is one of the best XX Legion models I've seen so far, painting-wise, and one of my favorite r nditions of the tribune so far.

However I do notice a few things that, imho, could have been done slightly better.

Thegun should, I think, point the same way he's lookimg. Similarly, without his helmet it seems as though he wouldn't quite be able to control it efficiently. Both can be explained by brain implants and/cortex controller-like devices, but he physically doesn't look like he has anything of the like...

Just a small detail, it just seems to detract wlightly from an otherwise perfect composition.

+ Edit : Oh, and if that's a dagger, does it mean his name is Crocodile Dundee or something?

Well it had to happen eventually...

I've started working on Fulgrim. I was considering painting him up for the ETL, but decided not to risk it as I'm going away for a couple of weeks and I really don't want to rush such a beautifully detailed min.

As you all know my Emperor's Children are Loyalists, so I'll only use Fulgrim and his Phoenix Guard in pre heresy games or if I'm asked to play on the Traitor side for a campaign day. As such I'll be arming him with Fireblade and he'll be carrying a Legion Vexilla, just to differentiate him from all of the other Fulgrims out there.

Just like with the Alpha Legion Praetor I skipped ahead and painted the head first. I wanted to make sure I could do a good job on the face, otherwise I would have tried to come up with a helmet for him.

Anyway, here he is, doing his best Ferrus Manus impersonation...

Oh, nice!

Glad you like him :)

Probably my favourite tribune conversion so far; love it.

How did you achieve that paint scheme?

Thanks a lot, bro! That's high praise. Are you talking about the armour? I painted it the same way that I painted my Alpha Legion test mini. I undercoated the mini with Tamiya Light Metallic Blue spray and applied a coat of Tamiya Clear Green over the top.

Supurb Alpha, just a wonderful blue you have there

Thanks a lot, mate!

Really beautiful. I would have expected the weapon arm on a Iron Hand, but since the XX value versatility and diversity I think it fits too. Is that an oversized Power Dagger in his hand?

Yeah, I'll be counting the gladius as a power dagger. I felt that the high-tech look of the carapace mounted combi-weapon fitted with the Alpha Legion aesthetic. They're known for using experimental/unreleased wargear.

Hey bro, thanks for the feedback. I really appreciate it. I tried positioning the gun to face the same direction that he is looking, but it looked really unbalanced. I suppose the weapon system could have its own machine spirit or pre programmed targeting parameters. If he has cerebral implants there probably wouldn't be any outwardly visible indicators as the Alpha Legion were experts of cosmetic surgery and would be keen to avoid any physical characteristics that could be used to identify one particular legionary from another.

I agree, that's one of my favorite tribunes as well.

I need to reread the praetor's rules though, I didn't know he could have two melee weapons and a ranged weapon.

Love the scalemail.

Thanks a lot! I'll be counting the gladius as a power dagger, and Alpha Legion characters can take a power dagger in addition to their other weapons. Glad you like the scale mail.

Ooooooh, Aaaaaah!

He's simply stunning, and the MIU-linked combi-plas is a great touch.

Thanks bro! I'm pretty happy with how the combi-weapon turned out. It was a bit of challenge to figure out how to represent the combi-weapon without making the mini look cluttered or ridiculous.

There really isn't much to say about how cool you've made that guy look! Absolutely love it!!

Thanks a lot, bro! Glad you like how he turned out :)

@KotR - it's an Alpha Legion thing. Any character can pick up a Power Dagger.

Kizz, stunning as always. I assume there wasn't a suitable transfer to use as a tattoo on his head?

Thanks, bro! Yeah the decals were all a tiny bit too large, plus I wanted a black tattoo and the decals only come in silver, white, and green.

Thanks for looking ;)

At last the Phoenician! Can't wait.

I've just bathed my 2016 event praetor as he'll be a siege breaker consul. Time to get back on the painting bandwagon and its always inspirational popping here to get motivated. :)

  • 3 weeks later...

I've just done some more work on Fulgrim whilst catching up with all of the awesome 30K podcasts that I missed while I was away.

Almost time to do some work on the cloak and some of the Primarchs other accessories.

Dude.... just do it order some Kakophoni

Hahaha, I was at my local GW checking out some of the new paints, and I saw some colours in their range that would go really nicely with some Kakophoni. At this stage I don't have plans to get any though. I don't feel that my existing EC minis really fit with the Traitor vide, and I don't really want to start a new EC army just yet.

Loyalist to the end! Good to see more EC Kizz

Thanks, bro! I'm really enjoying working on Fulgrim.

About time! I remember painting him and it was delightful and annoying at the same time, all those little tiny details.

Yeah, the detail is great, but some of the finer bits on the armour are pretty fiddly. I'm enjoying the challenge though.

Wow as usual. I haven't even started eidolon and am daunted even by that! Fulgrim is a gorgeous sculpt and i can't wait to see what you can do with it!

Thanks, mate! I know what it's like to be intimidated by a mini. It took me ages to make a start on Fulgrim, but once you get going it's usually easier than imagined.

I'll certainly be interested in seeing Fireblade, as i'm looking to do a pre-fall Fulgrim!

Yeah, it took me a while to decide on a suitable conversion for Fireblade. I'm not sure how I'm going to paint it though. I can't decided whether to go with a glowing/burning blade or a metallic golden blade with flames coming off it.

Nice! Looking forward to seeing the Siege Breaker mini :tu:

So creepy.

So awesome.

I am conflicted :biggrin.:

Hahaha, is it the headless (Ferrus) look that is creepy?

Amazing as always, Kizz! That Fulgrim reminds me that I need to get on my Fulgrim diorama sometime in the near future.

Ooooh, I love a good diarama. You've got me intrigued now.

Definitely looking forward to seeing what you do with a Primarch :smile.:

Thanks, bro! Fingers crossed I can do him justice.

Why did you have to paint Fulgrim....now I'll be itching to paint mine and I have enough to do! :tongue.: The AL Praetor looks the biz as well Kizz, great stuff.

Dooo it! I'd love to see your paint Fulgrim.

Fulgrim is shaping up into perfection! Looking forward to seeing him completed by your hands.

Thanks, bro! He's been a pleasure to paint so far.

Holy terra that alpha legion though....... Time to take a little peek at all the goodness ive been missing!

Thanks! The Alpha Praetor was a lot of fun. The new decals are really great to work with.

I doubt I'd be able to show it here, because it's going to be an Eldar Avatar choking Fulgrim to death, as it should have happened in Fulgrim.

Nice! I wonder how the Heresy would have gone if the Avatar did kill Fulgrim? Hugely different I guess.
