Brother Christopher
Black + blue gave a more greyish colour than I'd like, so I had to settle for that. But it's not bad, I guess. Maybe a deeper blue would give a better contrast, but, well. The miniature's ready, but I'm too tired today to take pictures. Here's an image of the base I made out of plasticard. http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k260/krj_38/WH40K%20Female%20Inquisitor/P1060790_zps8845eb49.jpg And two 'makeshift' photos of her accompanied by marines (which I had at hand, standing on my desk). http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k260/krj_38/WH40K%20Female%20Inquisitor/P1060792-Kopia_zps894b9943.jpg http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k260/krj_38/WH40K%20Female%20Inquisitor/P1060793_zps1442216c.jpg So, she is quite the same height as an SM. Sometimes a bit taller, sometimes shorter - depends on the marine's pose. But in a squad in gaming condition she won't stand out much. Or she will a bit, to demarcate her status as a special character. PS: those pointy-finger marines don't work in squads. More than one guy pointing somewhere looks ridiculous. Who does the shooting if they're pointing? Marshal_Roujakis
I'm still split decision... in a way I want the Inquisitor model to stand out, but also saying that... I want the Space Marines to atleast be in scale with the Inquisitor... I guess I'll just have to order for myself and hope for the best :p thanks Brother Christopher... and btw! Nice Witch Inquisitress ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/254966-the-neurode-crusade/page/7/#findComment-3633826 Share on other sites
Brother Christopher
@greggles I'm sort of proud, and the base is... amazing. I didn't expect that it could be that great, taking the recyclable materials used to make it. @ Roujakis I know what you mean. I bought the model basing my decision on the scale information I found on-line, and it is as it is. But the fact that she's that tall bothers me a bit. Still, what's done is done - she's done - and I have to live with that. She's also pretty slim so visually she seems smaller. It was a nice modelling and painting experience (a nice and welcome break from painting black). All in all, I have an interesting model which I can use in a potential game. Marshal Mattias
She looks awesome, the servo-skull really cements her as an intimidating 40k inquisitor and then all the little details start to flesh-out her story. Your project has inspired me! Don't sweat the size thing, if she was smaller then the detail would be lost and she would lose her sense of might. She needs to be a strong visual presence among your ranks, and you've achieved that. Brother Christopher
It's been some time since the last update. But, there's a good reason. ETL. I love it, and I hate it. Beause of ETL (and my wish to contribute the most points for our Chapter as possible) I'm postponing all my painting. All but one or two initiates. I couldn't handle the urge and I had to paint sometging. So I finished my poor downgraded Sworbrother, Initiate Zenon. I'll make the base some time in the near future. I postet some images of him in the WIP stage some time ago. Nothing much changed, I finished (ruined) his face, added some details here and there. And here is the final result: http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k260/krj_38/Neurode%20Crusade/P1060849_zpseae81d8e.jpg http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k260/krj_38/Neurode%20Crusade/P10608471050_zps8820dbcd.jpg http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k260/krj_38/Neurode%20Crusade/P1060846_zps431aa6f7.jpg http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k260/krj_38/Neurode%20Crusade/P1060847_zps3f3fc6d9.jpg http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k260/krj_38/Neurode%20Crusade/P1060844_zpscfd4c74d.jpg http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k260/krj_38/Neurode%20Crusade/P1060845_zps6da8e2d8.jpg I don't want to brag or anything, but I'm like super-happy how the bolter turned out. I don't know why, but I am. Wow, it's nice to post some pics again! Who does the shooting if they're pointing? It'd be alright if they were pointing in the same direction. Now it's chaos. Initiate 1:"Target in front" Initiate 2:"Enemy to the left!" greggles
That is some excellent line work on the bolter...wow. I usually give up after the broad line, and try to let the dry brush do the tiny detail like that. How you guys have the patience to put tiny etchings on the purity seals is awe inspiring to me . Brother Christopher
A small pre ETL update. I'm slowly figuring out my first vow (with the assumption that the vow system will be similar to the last year's system) and I'm preparing some miniatures. For starters, I believe that vow 1 will be something like this:> 1 Marshall, artificer's armour, Primarch's Wrath, power fist> Ironclad Dreadnought > Venerable Dreadnought, auto cannon, missile launcher > 5 Sternguard Sword Brothers, power fist, combi melta (old metal squad) > 10 assault Initiates Some time ago I bought incomplete 2 OOP metal assault sergeants. So I found some spare plastic arms, and a spare jump pack. What annoys me is that back then, marines used to be shorter and a contemporary jump pack looks a bit odd (as I can't get bits from that bygone era, I'll just have to learn to live with that). Same with arms, so no hands in an outstretched arm. A chainsword-arm from the BT upgrade sprue doesn't look ridiculously big, but a chainsword isn't a point efficient choice for ETL, and let's face it, not a best weapon for a Sword Brother. This is what I made. I got rid of the chainsword part and glued a spare power sword blade. The final product looks is quite nice, something new and refreshing. As it is rather large, it can also count as a relic blade, in case this guy is a part of a 'vanguard' squad. http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k260/krj_38/conversions%20and%20stuffs/P1060937_zpsb17d020f.jpg http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k260/krj_38/conversions%20and%20stuffs/P1060936_zps1e923ce8.jpg http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k260/krj_38/conversions%20and%20stuffs/P1060938_zps33fd39af.jpg http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k260/krj_38/conversions%20and%20stuffs/P1060939_zps0e87d091.jpg So, do you like the sword? In the end, to maximize the points I'll probably pledge two 5-man squads lead by a Sword Brother, one with a power fist, second with a power sword. That way, I can expand my assault Sword Brethren squad to 7 guys, if needed. Brother Christopher
I couldn't wait to paint this model... just couldn't. He was sitting on my desk for a long, long time. You can imagine my enthusiasm. But, finally!! ETL started and so did I. I don't know why, how and when, but I 'wasted' 3 hours on this guy, but he's mostly done. This is my 'chapter master' (for the extra points), or rather Castellan: http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k260/krj_38/ETL/P1070198_zps780a8372.jpg http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k260/krj_38/ETL/P1070199_zps7bb70449.jpg http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k260/krj_38/ETL/P1070201_zps039d7343.jpg http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k260/krj_38/ETL/P1070202_zps354e5aae.jpg Sword Brother William assumed command over a major fraction of the crusade's force, during a battle on forge world Neurode in the Neurode Sector and after loosing contact with Marshall Arthur. During battle, he displayed tactical prowess and the ability to organize and conduct a siege of an important strategic position in the communication and logistical chaos. Thanks to this, he was awarded a honorary rank of Castellan. The chequered shoulder pads distinct his higher rank from the other Sword Brethren. PS: Considering how those minis turn out, I probably should post smaller pictures. That would work in my favour... One question, what did you do for the gold? It looks like it could use a highlight to really make it pop. Unless you are going for an older look on it. Looking forward to seeing his base done! Brother Christopher
Wow, thanks for all the replies and kind words! For the golds, I used Shining Gold, then Devlan Mud wash and finally a dry-brush of Shining Gold mixed with Mithril Silver. But, as you pointed out, I'll try and add another highlight. The models, which I got at an on-line auction, was sold as "SM exclusive web sergeant." http://www.solegends.com/citle/citle2000/promotions/web2008smsgt/uswebmarinesgt.jpg But honestly, I like him better in blacks ;-) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/254966-the-neurode-crusade/page/7/#findComment-3670841 Share on other sites

Brother Christopher
To keep up the momentum, I devoted most of today's holiday to painting. So here it goes, my first sternguard Sword Brethren. Those guys are a blast to paint! But, also, enough for today (my back isn't used to so much sitting and painting any more) ! http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k260/krj_38/ETL/P1070213_zpsfb6e8aac.jpg http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k260/krj_38/ETL/P1070210_zps6bfaaa78.jpg A group shot: http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k260/krj_38/ETL/P1070208_zps1e9ac141.jpg And some close-ups on shoulder pads. I'm very pleased with the way they turned out. As always, photos annoy me, because they show all the stuff I don't (and don't want to see), but believe me - from a 'gaming distance' they look amazing. I'm pretty psyched, because those are probably one of the best models I've ever painted. http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k260/krj_38/ETL/P1070211_zps5a9f68f8.jpg http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k260/krj_38/ETL/P1070212_zps59dc8e61.jpg http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k260/krj_38/ETL/P1070215_zpsbf6f73ee.jpg http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k260/krj_38/ETL/P1070214_zpse609a5ea.jpg Also, I'm quite annoyed how the highlights look in the pictures. I quite like them the way they are (quite thick and strong) when I look with the naked eye, but on the screen they are somehow disappointing. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining: I'm just sharing my observations.
