Chaeron
Got about an hour or so to work on a few things - and I think I've used it pretty productively! I thought it would be best to tackle things that have been outstanding for a little while, so that I could definitively say that I finished them!I've finished the weathering in the form of mud on the seven Rhinos, and then after I'd done the last wash on both Land Raiders, added the mud to them too! I made sure that all the barrels on the Rhinos were drilled out - although I'll need to get the proper drill out for the Raiders. Other than that, tidy!I based the two Helbrutes I nearly finished the other day, and added just a bit more to that of the Daemon Prince who's been a WIP for ages basewise.Anyway, here's what I've done!http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/GW/IMG-20140123-00751_zps042d2cac.jpghttp://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/GW/IMG-20140124-00753_zps45ae4d20.jpghttp://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/GW/IMG-20140124-00755_zps01dc5012.jpgAs you can see, the paint is still wet in places - but I'm really happy to have done nearly all of the armoured stuff in one fell block. It's taken a fair amount of time admittedly - but I've enjoyed making sure that they all look the same.As ever, comments and criticism welcome! (*Edit - updated photos). infyrana
Ooh... we've come away from hellturkies and bikes that make feet want for battle and come back to tanks and dreads... I approve! I really like how you've taken the original DG style colours and made them lovely and unclean, whilst keeping their origins clear - your armour stands out very nicely. My only comment would be the eyes on the daemon prince and hellbrutes, as a personal view, I'm not so sure about the green (seems to clash with the DG colour trim you have) and believe a very different more contrasting colour would really make them stand out, just like your eye on the fist. Chaeron
Holy Boogers !!!! Thats alot of Armour!!! One can never have enough! I'm hoping to do a group shot later tonight of the stuff I've painted thus far, and what else needs doing! Ooh... we've come away from hellturkies and bikes that make feet want for battle and come back to tanks and dreads... I approve! I really like how you've taken the original DG style colours and made them lovely and unclean, whilst keeping their origins clear - your armour stands out very nicely. My thanks infyrana! Very grateful for the kind comments. You've probably seen the OSL on most of my stuff - and I simply kept it up, I know it's doesn't work as well (still unsure about the yellow globs in the muck on the DP's base...) - but I'm unsure what would work best. I think on the smaller models, with less trim, it looks better than when there's that bigger surface. Will bear that in mind - may be a way round it! infyrana
I actually like the yellow blobs on the floor, kinda helps add a little papa nurgle colour :) I just think the green clashes, or it could just be the light. Chaeron
I actually like the yellow blobs on the floor, kinda helps add a little papa nurgle colour I just think the green clashes, or it could just be the light. Quite possibly - only a phone camera! Thank you either way :) You inspired me to go and get all the stuff I'd finished or was currently working on out for a lovely "Full Force Friday" shot! The stuff you see here is basically things that are either ready to be painted, or just need a bit of a fix before I get them going. So things like the Blight Drones, anything being stripped, a fair amount of Terminators etc. - won't make this cut. Hopefully, there'll still be enough for your viewing pleasure?! http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/GW/IMG_1646_zps62a79c38.jpg http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/GW/IMG_1639_zps68395aae.jpg http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/GW/IMG_1635_zps79f19d01.jpg http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/GW/IMG_1637_zps856747dc.jpg http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/GW/IMG_1636_zps5d362fee.jpg http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/GW/IMG_1638_zps18b46b3a.jpg http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/GW/IMG_1644_zps587a4520.jpg http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/GW/IMG_1641_zps27ff6891.jpg http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/GW/IMG_1645_zpsc5e1475a.jpg Just as an idea for scale, included are 166 Plague Marines (amongst whom are a handful of Chosen) and 47 Cultists - in terms of points, the Plague Marines alone (without any upgrades, and bearing in mind each squad features a Champion and nearly all have two special weapons) come to just shy of 4,000pts. As you can see - there's still lots to be done, but it's pretty exciting that I'm really on the way to two Legions, rather than just the one. Thanks for looking! But, I've found a bit of time to do some painting... Here's a nice WIP shot of Typhus and the Deathshroud - hope you approve! infyrana
Approved... but you realise, you are missing your 7th model, Papa Nurgle would approve if you had the luxury of adding the final model :) Excellent work... I've yet to build my Deathshroud - but they look so worth it! I've yet to build my Deathshroud - but they look so worth it! That he would... and is why I have an unbuilt Mortarion (a Kabuki Steam Knight!) waiting to be prepped and sprayed! Hopefully, he'll complement them nicely! I have no idea what I'll do when I get Typhon and the Grave Wardens mind. Will just have to get another... They are a lovely kit - I left them for ages, and regret doing it - well worth it. Such lovely, lovely models. Chaeron
I’m currently working on some lovely Blight Drones. I started blocking out the colours after a major spraying session: From armour, to the flesh: http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/BlightDrones_zps7f43441c.jpg Which then progressed onto detailing: http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/GW/BD_zps01844bf5.jpg Anyway, I've made some more progress. Skin tone has been completely re-done and there's been a stiff highlight around the armour plating. I'll still need to weather that further, but it's shaping up at least! http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/GW/photo1_zps5a722f0d.jpg http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/GW/photo3_zpsd5e62dc8.jpg http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/GW/photo2_zps1d686b22.jpg They're looking pretty nicely gross at the moment. There are naturally a few things I need to correct - but hopefully they'll soon be done. Bases arrive in the next few days, and I'll pick up the rod on Thursday - so should be gravy! Lord Commander Scrymgeour
Yeah, I'm very very slowly repainting my blood angels, they do the job, but my style has changed so much in two years that they don't really fit anymore. Chaeron
Thanks gents once more for your comments! Anyway - I only went and actually did it. Have a look at this... So as you all saw, I started off with the following: http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/Basing_zpsce9b58cb.jpg I then proceeded (with help from Dad, cheers!) to cut the pieces of acrylic rod to about four inches each, before drilling into both the sphincter of the drone and through the base also: http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/WIP_zps95570e6e.jpg Pushing the PVC into the hole created, I was then able to see how long I actually wanted it in the base before sawing off any excess. http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/Based_zps8c0ea324.jpg I then secured this with superglue, added the tank trap from some spare FW resin blocks, and then used some liquid GS just to fill any necessary gaps. With the aid of a hot glue gun, I then went and did the following: http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/WIP2_zpse5f8b787.jpg To create the slime etc. coming from their rear, it was basically a case of layering and just letting it flow so it was pretty uneven and looking like watery slime trailing behind them and propelling them forward. http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/WIP3_zps3478530b.jpg But naturally, I couldn't stop there. We needed to get some colour on that bad boy! Now traditional inks didn't work: they left the majority clear and simply ran off. So, a quick drybrush/paint of Rhinox Hide gave it a nice brown tone. I then proceeded to undercoat the base (which had been washed with the FW block prior to the gluing stage) in black. The next step was using the Army Painter Quickshade from the tin: which leaves a glossy finish! I knew I'd have a use for this again! So on that went, quite liberally, before I returned to drybrushing the base in a dark grey and a thick black wash over the top. This was then given another highlight with a lighter grey and a thinner coat of black wash thereafter for detail. I added barbed wire and a stiff highlight on the traps as some final detailing for the time being! Which leaves me with the following: http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/BD1_zps38ee1148.jpg http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/BD2_zpsb938c6e4.jpg Then as a unit from the side too: http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/BD14_zps9496fd9f.jpg http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/BD15_zps2a5eebc2.jpg And some individual ones! http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/BD3_zps3cfdb20c.jpg http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/BD4_zps302684c2.jpg http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/BD5_zpsde2bb138.jpg http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/BD6_zps6f5c20d0.jpg http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/BD7_zps066f1a54.jpg http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/BD8_zps948063ef.jpg http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/BD9_zps7649954c.jpg http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/BD10_zps10e7c2b4.jpg http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/BD11_zps378e9ce7.jpg http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/BD12_zpsdf646ea5.jpg http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/BD13_zps4e96a117.jpg I'm currently unsure as to what's next on them - I might weather the armour slightly more, and perhaps a little highlight on the slime, but I'm pretty stoked at the moment as to how these have turned out. As ever, please chuck any comments and criticism my way - if it'll help improve them, I'm always game to listen! Thank you all as ever for your support and belief - with a special 'cheers' to Midian for his guidance and suggestions, although I did it quite differently, it was a great to get that discussion going - so thank you!
