I made a custom rust wash for my Marines malevolent; a little orange, a little brown, and little dark red, and a lot of water. It usually needs a few layers, but the effect, added with a little rust weathering, turned out pretty nice:

Oh that is a sweeeet Sergeant model, the dirty paintjob and mix of armours looks fantastic. I paticularly like the little heraldric shield with the eagle head. That said, I thought you Malevolents didn't wear the Emperor's aquila, something about already being the Emperor's symbol? :tongue.:

I thought that was Black Templars?

In fact, I'm positive. I blame A D-B for the 500pts of useless Black Templars glaring at me from the top of my hobby shelf right now.

OT: I think the reason Heathen's rust shows up so well is b/c almost all of it is in very close proximity to a silver highlight. It really draws the eye and looks super realistic.

The Caedon Offensive:

The bloody sands of Gratican IX

As the vanguard of Warmaster’s 13th Black Crusade pushed ever further outwards from the Cadian gate, his numerous reaver fleets pushed ever onwards towards their various objectives. In the Caedon belt the Night Lords and Word Bearer forces, under the joint command of Hashec Tor and Othudel Los, moved to assault the desert mining world of Gratican IX. Fresh from their victory on Volusia, the recruitment planet of the Marines Exemplar, the archenemy forces sought to claim the valuable adamantium of Gratican IX for themselves.

The forces of Chaos however, would find no easy conquest amongst the harsh sands and scalding sun of the desert planet. Having affected a tactical withdrawal from Volusia, the regrouped forces of Galvias Numitor, Captain of the Marines Exemplar 3rd Company, met the foe head on. Though having suffered a grievous blow in the loss of their recruitment planet, the Marines Exemplar showed their heritage as sons of Dorn and rebuffed the archenemy with steely determination and cold fury.

This stage in the Caedon Offensive would also see the full might of the Doom Eagles 8th Company brought to bear. Led by the dour Captain Nerva Severus, the Doom Eagles forces deployed in rapid strike teams that whittled away at the enemy and slowed their drive on the vital mining facilities. However, it was during these actions that a sizeable contingent of Night Lords led by an unidentified individual struck the 8th Company’s operations base and inflicted grievous casualties. Acting with the trademark swiftness of his chapter, Captain Severus was able to withdraw his forces to a more defensible position. Sadly, the success of this redeployment came at the cost of 13 Astartes who gave their lives fighting the rearguard action that bought time for their battle brothers to escape.

The desert wastes of Gratican IX would again see the mysterious appearance of the Eldar xenos, however this time they would engaged a strike force of Marines Exemplar led by honored brother Marius. What objective these xenos warriors sought may never be known, but for the rest of war amongst the worlds of the Caedon Belt they would remain an unpredictable element, helping or hindering both sides seemingly at random. Due largely to the interference of the Eldar, the war for Gratican IX would grind to a bloody standstill with neither force seeing definitive victory.

Engaging the Doom Eagles on the decidedly...green... deserts of Gratican IX.

A Bitter and Bloody Draw!

Well it certainly has been a good bit since the last update on the campaign, so I figured I'd feed you guys the latest info. This particular war-zone was hell in a sandbox (pardon the pun). We initiated a rule that behaves like night fighting, where you roll every turn to see if a sandstorm appears (4+), if it does, every unit not in a vehicle or inside a building suffers D6 str3 Ap- hits. It was brutal. The 15th Company gave a good account of themselves, first tabling my friends Doom Eagles (which I felt kind bad about), and then fighting to a vicious draw against my friend's Eldar (Wraithknights suck). "Creeping Death" was finally blooded and made an excellent account of itself (no doubt due to the paintjob) and Hashec 2.0 reaped a bloody tally, accounting for 10 Dire Avengers, a spirit seer, a squad of guardians and 15 some-odd Doom Eagles (much happier with his tabletop performance now).

This time I don't have any photos of the actions fought by the Marines Exemplar or the Word Bearers (the games were really intense and they forgot to take photos) but I'll try and do a better job of documenting them in the future. There may be a bit of gap in campaign updates as we now have to set about constructing an Ice World table. We have the frame built, but we still need the textured latex mat to arrive and we have to build some terrain.

In other news I should have an update on Hashec soon (fluff writing takes time, and this story is gonna be a hefty one) as well as the Plague Marines. As always critiques and comments are welcomed and encouraged, cheers!

Ave Dominus Nox

Cool stuff. A question, do you guys make up rules as you go (sand storm thingie for instance) or do you have a clear plan what to do and what rules to use before you started the campaign/ specific battle? Looking for some inspiration to spice up my own games and you and your friends seem to be having a blast :)

On another note, really looking forward to your fluff on Hashec. Judging by your earlier work it's gonna be kick ass.

Edit: Oh and I suppose the black mace and the added mobility made all the difference for Hashec, eh?

Thanks, to date we've kinda been coming up with them on the fly, though if we could do it again we would have figured out the rules at the beginning. We will have similar rules on the Ice Planet as well.

Haha, it's almost like vengeance!

Very nice, the 15th bring death to their enemies in style.

That's how Night Lords do miss.

A green desert actually sounds kind of cool.

That would mess with me so bad, "it's so hot but it looks so refreshing, damn this planet!"

Awesome work brother

Thanks man, we gonna see any more Crimson Fists anytime soon?

Hey brother heinrich love love love your stuff you are truely blessed by the powers. If you dont mind me asking what list do you run when dominatining your marine exemplar foes?

Sure thing Kharnaak. This is the list I am running currently, I've tweaked a few things, but the major change is dropping the Terminators for Plague Marines. The terminators spend every game dying ignoble deaths which got pretty old so now I'm trying out some more resilient/useful troops.

HQ:

• Chaos Lord - Bike, MoN, Black Mace, Power Axe, Sigil of Corruption, Blight Grenades, Melta Bombs - 195pts

Troops:

• 7x Plague Marines - 2x Meltaguns, Champ w/Powerfist - 213pts

• 10x Chaos Marines - 2x Plasma Guns, VotLW, Champ w/Melta Bombs - 220pts

• 10x Chaos Marines - 2x Plasma Guns, VotLW, Champ w/Melta Bombs - 220pts

Fast Attack:
• 6x Chaos Bikers - 2x Meltaguns, MoN, Champion w/Chainaxe - 194pts

Heavy Support:
• 3x Obliterators - MoN - 228pts
• Chaos Landraider - 230pts

TOTAL: 1,500pts
I must say that list looks suitably devastating. Its astonishing to me how plague marines are tougher than termis. Perhaps MoN termis would be better? Its such a shame because terminators are awesome sauce. Also I must say I'm loving your plague marine wips and your fluff is amazing can't wait to see hashecs story of his fall and rebirth as a reaver of entropy itself!

Great batrep Brother. For some reason, I could almost cheer for the heretics when they are demolishing xenos scum. Almost. ;)

And for the benefit of  Lady Flint, the Templars are glaring at you because you think they are useless.

Hail friends and Ave Dominus Nox. Just a quick update to let you know what I've got on the chopping block at the moment. I decided to add another member to the biker squad to increase the survivability of the meat shield and because (with Hashec) this guy will bring the total squad size up to Papa Nurgle's favorite number.

I haven't written his fluff yet but to give guys a hint, he's not original VIII Legion stock, but he is just as old as Hashec and the other Long War vets of the 15th Company.

Let me know what you guys think, he'll be getting primed here in a bit and hopefully painted up by tonight.

Lovely work as always, the combination of different bits and green stuff work makes him look more imposing than a standard chaos marine. I'm curious though, the little crux on the left shoulder, is that a trophy or a previous allegience marking? Oh and the sword, is that from the stormvermin or clan rats?

Love it. Only one thing is the flayed face. The way it hangs doesn't give the idea of any forward motion.

Thanks, yeah I noticed that as well, unfortunately he's already primed lol. So maybe it's just stuck to his calf with blood. Yup going with that.

All will be revealed in time  Also yeah it's some Skaven bit, I think the Clanrat Champion or something, idk, I don't play Skaven, I just steal their bits.

Where is the backpack from?

The backpack is from the Dark Angels Black Knights kit.

The biker looks great ! I expected nothing less

Where is his sword from ? Raptors kit ?

Thanks man, it's some Skaven bit from either the Stormvermin or Clanrat box.

I've been following this thread since the beginning, and I've just got to say you've been a big inspiration to me, sir. I don't think I've seen those raptors in the background before though - something to be revealed to us in time maybe?

Just more proof that MK III Iron Armor is the most awesome armor mark of all time.
