Night Lords 15th Company - In Memoriam...Pg.68

Recommended Posts

Looking Good! Have you thought about adding some blood splatter/flow around the ex-Carcharodon's mouth, to show that he has been drinking blood?

Yeah I may do that, just don't want to mess him up, but it could be a good addition. I'll do a test head and see what everyone thinks.

Love this idea. Had that image in my head actually, especially after that fluff.

Urakesh smashed through the wall with the force of a runaway train. His breath came in ragged gasps and blood leaked from the dozens of wounds he had sustained. His super-human physiology was working to heal the damage, but there were still limits to the wonders of Astartes genetics.

This was supposed to be a soft target, civilian populace and PDF reservists. Unfortunately, fate wasn't so accommodating. A Crimson Fist strike cruiser had translated in system and got the drop on the Harbinger of Sorrow. 15th Company's ship was forced to run, guns blazing, to avoid being gutted by the Fist's strike cruiser. Now the remainder of 15th Company's forces were engaged in a fighting retreat to a temporary evac point where, hopefully, a storm eagle would be waiting to get them off this rock. Looking to his left, he could see Dal Khailos weaving in and out of the hab blocks on a parallel course to the evac point. Suddenly, bolter fire stitched a line between the two sprinting Night Lords, shattering masonry and showering them with dirt and debris. In one fluid movement, Dal Khailos spun and dropped to a kneeling position, bringing his demon-mouthed plasma gun to bear. Urakesh mirrored his movements and as he turned, caught sight of their pursuers. Clad in cobalt-blue armor with gauntlets the color of blood, three Crimson Fists pounded after them, one bearing a powerfist and the laurels of a Sergeant.

That wasn't friendly.

Dal Khailos had spent centuries as a weapons specialist in the VIII legion. He had never sought advancement or accolades, though he received many of the latter for his outstanding marksmanship and proficiency with plasma weaponry. In the centuries since the Heresy, the medals and honors had been forgotten, but his love of the weapons that breathed sun-fire never diminished. Depressing the trigger on his ancient and rare weapon, Dal Khailos sent a bolt of burning, green-tinged plasma straight into the oncoming sergeants chest. The top half of the Crimson Fist's body simply disappeared in a flash like a miniature sun being born. Before the light had even faded, Dal Khailos was on the move again.

"Displacing."

Urakesh could hear the grin in Khailos' voice, he couldn't blame him, that had been one of the most satisfying moments of the day.

"Suppressing."

Urakesh sent over the comm channel before snapping out of cover and letting rip with tight, controlled bursts from his bolter. One of the Fists went down, the explosive bolts ripping through his chest-plate where excess plasma from Dal Khailos' shot had weakened it. The third sent a torrent of fully-automatic fire back at Urakesh, forcing him to duck back into cover. That was definitely a storm bolter, time to move.

Before Urakesh could displace, he heard a deafening roar laced with vox distortion. The Crimson Fist trying to kill Urakesh spun towards the source of the sound, but wasn't fast enough. Kageion, renegade of the Minotaurs Space Marine chapter, smashed into the loyalist like a meteorite. Kageion's bolter was empty, however he had made use of the wicked bayonet attached to the front by ramming it into the Crimson Fist's stomach during his initial strike. With his red-clad fists, the Ex-Minotaur caved the stricken Marine's face in with a furious succession of super-human blows. Roaring again he ripped his bolter out of the dead Fist's torso and turned towards Urakesh. Regarding the rage-filled Marine from the black eye-sockets of his archaic war-helm, Urakesh sighed.

"If you're done tenderizing, we have places to be."

Turning, the giant Night Lord took off at a run again, smashing through another hab wall with his massive bulk. Kageion shook his head to clear the red mist from his vision. These days it was getting harder and harder to keep control, the lines between who he should and shouldn't kill were becoming blurred...

Another night and another update for you all, so here's the first short with some of our fellow brother's characters, I hope you guys enjoy, it's always fun tying the community into projects. Anyways, I'll be out of town tomorrow evening doing some camping, so no update most likely. I did however tweak my back at the gym today, so we'll see how I feel in the morning, you may yet get some painkiller-fueled painting tomorrow eve

I like the fact that the legion is using fallen astartes from other chapters I assume they killed the rest of the marines from that company in battle and gave this guy a choice...I enjoy that...I like seeing them crazier then the Night Lords though...

His train of thought is like ...hey now I am a bad guy guess I should do bad guy things...

and the night lords are just along the lines of  ...ehh...another day...

Your fluff is lovely and your miniatures are awesome (and they keep getting better and better with every update).

Thanks brother! That means a lot!

Nice additions, and I especially like the look of the one I chose to add my name to!

Thanks BCK! Figured you would ;)

My favorite line:

"That wasn't friendly."

Nothing says "I'm grumpy" like a powerfist :)

Glad you like the fluff! I really wanted to paint the renegades as the most homicidal and psychopathic representations of their chapters, guys whose inner desire to inflict suffering, fear, and violence overwhelmed the ideals and loyalty of their original chapters. I wanted them to be the outsiders, the guys who are so deranged they have no compunction whatsoever about turning on their brothers, which makes them perfect, if not a little dangerous, for the Night Lords. That's also why I threw in the red gauntlet markings as well, they're all living on borrowed time, so they have to continue to prove their usefulness in battle, hence why they go above and beyond what is required by the 15th company and it's original members.

Great fluff Heinrich. I love the dynamic between legionnaire and renegade you're painting.

Thanks! Yeah I really wanted them to stand out as prime examples of the psychotic nature inherent in the VIII Legion but at the same time make it clear that they will always be outsiders, whether by choice or the sentiments of the original Legionnaires.

I love everything about 2nd claw, from the names you have given our "honorary" marines to the fantastic conversions and paint schemes.  I am also especially happy about the fact that BCK and myself are in the same squad.  It just seems fitting somehow.

wait...how come I dont get one...

I am a Legionnaire as well...haha

In other news, the next three members of 2nd Claw are almost done, however with each new bit of fluff I have an ever decreasing amount of 'Night Lord-y' names to pull from. Thus I have decided to open up the remaining members of 2nd Claw, the 6 future bikers , and the 4 Atramentar for naming after certain members of the community. I would love to open this up for everyone to see their name in midnight clad, however some of y'all have names that just don't fit. Do not fear though! I won't leave you out, feel free to put a Night Lord twist on your name and submit it for review. The names you submit will be written into my fluff and have a miniature representing their eternal place of honor in 15th Company!

One further stipulation; The 4 Atramentar are reserved for my Night Lords brethren specifically, if all of them don't get claimed then I will open them up for others to name. PM me if you want to claim a slot and you have a suitable name, the slots are as follows:

Name Slots Available:

2nd Claw:

Sergeant - Kol Saresk

Plasma Gunner - Dal Khailos (Mikhail)

Haha thanks, never trust a Night Lord brother ;)

Yeah I figured you'd like that ;)

The minis and fluff are fantastic, as usual, Heinrich! I'm loving the characterisation you're giving the renegades, as if that's what their parent chapters could become if they gave in fully to their vices.

Thanks! Yeah that was the feel I was trying to go for with them, the darkest version of what they could be.

Do we get the joy of deciding what equipment to have as well (insert puppy dog eyes here) :laugh.:

Unfortunately no, gotta use this army for the tabletop so I've already set all the gear. I am however thinking about doing a community project in the future though where people can pick their gear...

I wasn't actually serious since I doubt two peoples' interpretations of what they think a model should look like from a scratch build will match :)

Looking forward to seeing the rest though since everything I've seen so far has been fantastic

++++++++

Flaying a man alive takes skill. Humans, unlike many other mammals, store their fat in the epidermis itself. This makes it difficult to tell whether or not you've cut deep enough, often you can inadvertently start cutting muscle instead of pairing the skin from it. This process becomes even harder when the subject is alive. Bodily fluids tend to make the work messy and hard to see. All these factors make flaying a live human a tricky and daunting task, unless you've had roughly 1,000 years of practice...

Zso Galon wielded his mono-molecular edged flaying knife with the skill of an artist. Separating flesh from muscle and tendon with the ease of a true master, he made short work of his latest victim. His black eyes stared intently from above the brutal respirator enclosing his mouth and jaw. The man's shrill screams were now becoming gurgles as he drowned in his own blood. Finishing his work with flourish of his wicked, bone-handled knife, he smiled.

"Is he ready?"

The voice of Gershak grated behind him, distorted by the vocalizer unit in his brutal helm. Zso Galon turned to regard the other Night Lord. Gershak's armor was a pillaged, baroque affair, draped in the skulls of slain enemies and spare ammunition bandoliers. In his fists he clenched a wicked looking billhook and the stubby form of a massive Astartes bolt pistol.

"Just finished, take his other arm."

Gershak and Zso Galon lifted the man's grisly form between them and walked over to 2nd Claw's armored Rhino transport. Cairovas was waiting for them, a pair of crimson, chiropteran wings sweeping up from his war-helm. Strapped to his left shoulder were the grinning skeletal remains of an Imperial Governor. Clasped in Cairovas' fist was a long bar of gore-stained steel that had clearly seen extensive use. The waiting Night Lord nodded to Zso Galon and Gershak. The two Night Lords and their grisly trophy came to a halt in front of him and turned to face one another, tightly gripping their bloody charge between them.

"Ready, pull."

At Zso Galon's command, they pulled the man's arms towards themselves. With a sound like wet paper tearing, the his limbs came free in a welter of blood and gore. Their victim simply passed out from the trauma. Gershak grunted and shook his head.

"Mortal frames are so weak, they never last long enough to make good trophies."

Zso Galon sighed, Gershak spoke the truth. 1st Claw had managed to capture a fellow Astartes and made a proper trophy with him. They could hear the wounded Marine's howls from the next hab block over.

"He'll have to do, he was a PDF Commander, so I suppose he's semi-important."

Cairovas shrugged, the dead Governor's bone's rattling with the movement. Gershak chuckled with a sound like boulders shifting.

"Let's just get him mounted and be done with it."

Grabbing the unconscious, now likely dead, form of the PDF Commander by the throat, Zso Galon raised him up to eye level. Cairovas took the bar of Iron he had been holding and rammed it through the PDF Commander's ribcage where his arms had been. If he wasn't dead before, he certainly was now. The Night Lords took the bar transfixing the form of the Commander and placed it in a set of plasteel hooks mounted to the front of their Rhino. Zso Galon went back to retrieve the dead man's skin and set about stitching it together in an imitation of wings. Gershak glanced at Cairovas.

"Hands like an artist that one."

Cairovas watched Zso Galon's careful needlework as he set about his gruesome task.

"No doubt, but one has to wonder; who carries needle and thread with them in a combat zone?"

Evening everyone! Tonight's fluff as you'll notice is a little more calm, but no less gruesome, piece. I wanted to show some of their more "calm" moments as well to really flesh out the characters. For those who may feel the need to state that in the field they did, in fact, carry a sewing kit; remember this is the 41st Millennium and these dudes are SPACE MARINES, AND SPACE MARINES DON'T SEW.... unless you're an Apothecary.

Anyways, here's some models:
