Man, I hate to be that guy, but what would those bolters need an underslung blade for? Rule of Cool, I know, but still...it's better not to think about it for too long...

i know but what else would you put there?

the standard is a bit of chain with a spike dangling

...yeah, and I would have preferred that, to be honest. Just my two cents, though. But since you asked for feedback...

hmm thanks for the feedback, i will hold on a bit and then hear what the rest think, someone might have a brilliant sulution.

i am very grateful for your input

While a bayonette mounted on a stationary weapon is a bit unnecessary, so is 90% of all csm spikes. It's 40k, leave no gun unspiky.

And if someone assaults the fortress, the defenders can wave the filter around if they run out of ammo

this is what it might look like

The bayonets look cool and should stop climbing infantry from interfering with the guns if they want to keep their fingers.

Lots of chaos models have blades in odd places that have no in game effect. Look at terminator combi-weapons, the flamer seems to have a power axe blade on it.

As for alternatives maybe the chains with hooks from various marauders flails, dangling chains from skullcrusher kits (for the side of the heavy bolter like dark blessings or totemic items). The small ball and chain flails from the chaos chariot weapon (I am using those to link my berserkers to Khârn). The marauder horseman kit has similar stuff that ends in chaos stars or skulls (better quality/res than the khorne berserker box).

There is a chaos knight steed tail I am forever cutting off and replacing with tentacles that is a collection of chains ending in skulls and hooks.

Of course chains could be swings for the same infantry the bayonet stops....

I quite like the head, and I know you are trying to avoid the old glue the dragon/gargoyle heads on the vehicle sprue to the heavy bolter/lascannon and want the heavy bolter barrel to be its roaring mouth spitting death or somesuch.

The only thing I can think of is possibly a larger stylised chaos face/head, like a defiler faceplate or one from a lord of khorne, with the guns barrel coming out of the mouth on that. Getting a part that scales well and doesn't look daft might be the problem.

However it looks cool but as white cast plastic it can be hard to tell. Is it a bloodletter champion head or one of the ones from the chaos warrior box.

Edit: Or some sort of jaw on the lower side as if the barrel is coming out of a mouth. I'll go an look at my chaos bits, I can almost visualise something that might pair up with that chaos skull thing that is on top.

Not a huge fan of the bayonets, but it doesn't stop it from looking good. I think it's possible that the bolter looks "chaos" enough without them, and that you'll probably have the bastion itself sufficiently detailed with spiky/trim accoutrements.  Though, again, it doesn't look bad. I'd consider just using the bloodletter faceplate and see how that works with the bastion in total.

Just some thoughts. Looks good, like I said. Can't wait to see the whole thing.

lots of good ideas, i had one if those horse tails but dunno were its gone, but i have four heavy bolters one this bastion, a lower jaw seems cool aswell.

might run them bare, thats also a option, ill try to do a full mock up so we can have a look.

in the meantime look a distraction!!

Interesting stuff, and the bunch of flames look great. :)

Just a tip - white resin can be very hard to see the details on - also when you're inspecting them for bubbles, etc. If you put a drop of black turpentine based enamel Humbrol paint in the resin mix, it turns a nice grey, that's much easier to see the details on - no tricks, just the regular small metal bottles we all used as kids, building model airplanes.

Btw, do you use a pressure chamber, or just cast and hope for the best?

i ordered some resin dye already, but didn't inow you could use those model paints, and nope no chamber just alot of hoping hehe

here is a quick look at it atm, still isn't dine but a good mockup so you can see the bolter in place, im gonna add a bit more to it, im even considering the standard spikes along the top, not sure but considering it.

would still love to hear your feedback good and bad.

so what do you think? good horrible? ideas ?

thanks alot!

Seeing the heavy bolter with the skull on top greyed out, they look great. Not sure it even needs bayonets or dangling chains or a lower jaw.

As an aside I personally have never been a fan of railings of spikes on chaos models, whether terminator racks or vehicle sprue ones (just me) but practically they are snapping accidents waiting to happen, especially trying to transport something as bulky and blocky as a bastion. If you travel to play just something to note when coming up with the model and a transport solution.

it's funny you should say that, i been waiting for the greenstuff to cure, and its still not done but im guessing something like this

im still not sure about spikes, might add a few bigger ones but as Marius says its not handy to transport and they break and whatnot.

Great work on the "trophy" - one suggestion however; It would look very grisly (and therefore fitting for chaos!) if you could tilt the head upwards, and let it be impaled by a spike, going through the mouth grille.

so something like trophy number 2?

just glued the legs on on this so cant put the spike in, after the glue is dry i need to hollow out the back a bit so the spike can slide in all the way

Very good! But still, I think it ought to be through the mouth - just because it's horrible. ;)

tou do have good ideas so moght have to try makeing another trophy

This bastion is going to be epic! Loving the trophies so far, would love to see other non-marine trophies too (xenos & regular human). Some battle damage on the bastion would look great too I think since it's chaos. Looking forward to seeing more!
