I've never honestly seen this plog before, but to be complimented so in the opening post is truly flattering. blush.png

Some truly unique and interesting marines here, Dragonlover. Keep up the good work.

Hey man figures looking great. Highlighting is extra work but it really does make the army pop. Again the point is to have fun so if it's not your thing screw it lol. I'm trying to teach myself nonmetal metal which is pretty hard but I'm more a modeler / painter nowadays no play groups near me / kid lol. I just got an order of anvil stuff and I think it looks great. Got the medieval stuff for a set of havocs I'm building. Keep going looking forward to more

Man, NMM is one of those things that there is almost no way I'm ever going to try, good luck with it. Did you decide to enter the ETL with your guys in the end?

That reminds me, I need to catch up on the Ruined King and his boys. Yes, I read plogs for fun. I think your Night lords was one of the first that I read just after I signed up to the site

Thanks for the kind words both of you!

Just a quick update, I've done the base for the green on the shoulders, backpacks and legs. I swear, if I ever say 'You know what, painting 15 guys in one go seems like a plan!' again, stop me for the love of the gods. On the plus side, after this the two ten man squads will feel like a doddle.

Vow 1 is complete! 15 CSM, a smattering of close combat weapons, 2 Plasma Guns and a Champion.

Time for Vow 2:

I Dragonlover, answer the call of E TENEBRAE LUX and vow to complete from Codex: Chaos Space Marines -  a squad of 10 Chaos Space Marines with 2 Plasma Guns, 1 Combi-Plasma and and 1 Power Sword, Huron Blackheart and a squad of 9 Chaos Marines with 1 Plasma Gun, 1 Combi Plasma and 1 Power Sword for a total value of 522 Points on or before August 1st, 2014. Success shall bring glory to Alpharius, while failure will see me consigned to oblivion. Hydra Dominatus!

9 guys + Huron:

10 man squad:

---------------------

I'm back in the saddle after my Expo slump, everything on the completed vow that isn't painted on the picture in the previous post was done in the last week. The next 20 guys are being done 5 at a time for maximum psychological effectiveness, and Huron is being left until last.

Vow 2 is complete! Sorry I don't post more WIP stuff with painting, once I get into the flow I hate stopping in case I lose it. Assuming I don't make any more vows though, the next project will have WIP shots, because it'll either be a Fire Raptor kitbash or my stealth Rhino conversions.

Talkin' to myse-elf, woah-oh-oh talkin' to my se-elf /Billy Idol

So yeah, I did a third vow. And yes, I forgot to take midpoint photos... trust me, I'll make up for it when the conversions start happening.

No more ETL for me, no time to build and paint a unit. Now, I begin the prep for this years Call...

I think it's time to just bite the bullet and start on this Rhino conversion I was banging on about upthread. Note to self, buy jewellery saw...

Ok, so. Rhino conversion. I've built in support struts for the sides, and started working in from the back with two panels. They've ended up slightly too short, but that's cool because it gives me some space to build the back door into.

http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g79/Dragonlover63/IMG_0191.jpg

I decided against removing the pulpit bit at the front, I figure the combi bolter can go there and it just felt like too much work to fix up after removing. If it looks naff, I'll try it on the next one.

Thoughts, suggestions, comments?

I wanted a transport for my Alpha Legion that looked stealthier than a normal Rhino, in the same way a Stealth Fighter works. Looking at the WIP I'm not sure the effect I was originally aiming for is gonna be workable, I have a feeling it's gonna look more like an armoured truck.

After careful consideration, I'm cool with that.

Another reason is that I want to display the fact that Chaos Marines aren't constrained by the Mechanicum. All the power armour in this army is non standard, having normal Rhinos would have just felt wierd.

I hadn't considered the Taurox comparison, but there's definitely something in that. I've now done both sides, and I'm almost certainly going to be putting some kind of trim around the bottom to hide various mistakes, like most of the right hand side just going tits up.

I put in the angled shot so you guys can get a sense of the model as a whole.

Also, I have no idea what to do in terms of tracks/wheels. Anyone got any good ideas there?

Some more WIP, this time an edit to the Jackal, and the beginning of my Fire Raptor kitbash. Well, I say beginning, more like middle. Doing this was supposed to be easier than buying a FW one and faffing about fixing it, but in hindsight I may well have been better off doing that, had to resort to a plasticard spacer and superglue to get the two halves together.

Jackal:

http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g79/Dragonlover63/IMG_0204.jpg

I've not done anything more to this because the next stage is filling the cockpit in, and I really couldn't be bothered to do any fiddly plasticard work lately.

Fire Raptor:

If anyone has a Defiler reaper autocannon I can beg/trade/steal, let me know. I want to use them for the sponsons.

It's that time again. Chaos calls, and I will not be found wanting!

I Dragonlover answer the Call of Chaos and vow to complete the following before January 15th 2015: 1 squad of 30 Chaos Cultists with autoguns and a heavy stubber, 1 squad of 29 Chaos Cultists with pistol+CCW and one flamer dude, 3 Chaos Rhinos with no upgrades. Success will bring me the Mark of Pustulant Glory, failure the Mark of the Lost and the mockery of my brothers.

The Rhinos are gonna be for my Alpha Legion. I'm admitting temporary defeat on the stealth Rhino idea, if I revisit it I'll probably try and just plasticard the whole thing, until then I just want some actual Rhinos in the correct colours!

Hydra Dominatus!

Looking good, man- and that is an aggressive commitment to the Call... I am impressed!

What are your plans for your bases for the Alpha Legion? Seems a shame to have nicely painted models sitting on slotta bases... I think something light gray/white would really help them stand out. You could place a thin strip of card over the open slots on the base before applying sand or whatever.

Some really cool models Dragonlover & as geektom said that a really impressive commitment to the Call of Chaos.  Will you be buying any of the Forge World Heresy Alpha Legion parts?  Or I think GW still sell the metal shoulder pads for Alpha Legion which are really cool.

Looking forward to see how progress get on for the Call of Chaos :D

I honestly don't know how to base them. I've looked at every third-party base I could find for inspiration, and nothing grabs me. I figure one day I'll just be wandering along and be struck with the perfect idea.

I will not be using any Alpha Legion parts. I considered the Rhino doors briefly, but they have a whacking great Chaos star on them. Not exactly subtle.

As to the size of my vow, it's practice for next years ETL. I also wanted to get the high volume of low points stuff out of the way. I've built the Rhinos now and I started painting Cultists last night, I'll put pics up when all the colours are on. I was gonna undercoat today as well, but it just started raining...

Thanks for the comments guys!

Just to ask what type of base are you going for?

That's the thing, I can't decide. I considered industrial style bases for a while (grills, pipes, that sort of thing) but it didn't hold my interest. The only thing I do know is I refuse to just flock them, as that would be boring.

I quite liked the GW city bases they brought out a few months back, but I missed the boat and didn't order any.

So, my first 5 cultist are about three quarters done, What do you think?

http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g79/Dragonlover63/IMG_0209.jpg

The plan is to do the bits that are red on these a different colour on the next batch, then change it again for the following five and so on. That way they keep the unified look of the blue and grey, but there's a reasonable amount of other variation to stop me from going mad painting them.

As many as you can fit on the table, as a rule. They're like Guardsmen but with none of a Guardsman's redeeming features, so they just soak bullets and die pitifully.

That said, I may well run them as Militia from IA 13 at some point, which makes them slightly better.

... is someone being tempted by the dark side? Let's face it, the Storm Brothers are already colourful enough to be Noise Marines!

Dragonlover

Lol, ouch! Stormbrothers are loyalists to the core! :-P

Not *necessarily* thinking about the dark side... But I have recently been intrigued by how few Tzeentch armies there are, and that so many people seem to think the Thousand Sons are terrible/boring...

I am a sucker for a challenge, so it just has my wheels turning.

Keep up the great work!

Ooh, geektom Thousand Sons, that'd be lush.

First five Cultists are done. Even did a little bit of freehand on that guys arm for the hell of it.

http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g79/Dragonlover63/IMG_0210.jpg

Next up are two full cloak guys and one each of the other three. I'm thinking green as the mask/gun colour on these guys. What's a good ochre/dark yellow nowadays, Iyanden Darksun? XV 88?
