Chickenleg
This unit is coming out nicely and the champion is ace.Inspiring work, now i want to make my own!The apothecarion badge on their shoulders is probably related to Fabius Bile who is the creator of those sick puppies. Forté
Like Chickenleg said. The apothecarion did the implants but I doubt they had anything to do with the weapons. Personally I think the painter of those played it safe by sticking with the standard scheme. Captain Semper
A bit of background for my force: Lt. Commander Justinian, commanding the 2nd Battallion of the 18th Millenial of the Emperor's Children Legion was a haughty and arrogant officer who however had an excellent track record in fast, hit-and-run types of attack. His attitude created friction with the Commander of the 18th - Commander Leon. However the friction never reached a point of outright confrontation and the excellent track record of Justinian kept the mutual dislike of the two men in check. Justinian's reputation soon grew within the Legion and inevitably caught the attention of Lord Commander Eidolon. Eidolon approved of Justinian's attitude to war and openly bestowed upon him a lot of favor - to the point that the friction with the Commander Leon became a semi-permanent condition. As the character of the Legion started to change, Justinian was firmly drawn to Eidolon's sphere of influence and became his preferred officer to spearhead hit and run missions and the 2nd Battallion of the 18th became a point of reference for such actions. It was often the case that Eidolon himself was participating in the 2nd Battallion's actions. It was only a matter of time before the Primarch himself noticed Justinian thus marginalising Commander Leon even further... During the events of Isstvan III Leon was send on the planet along with his most trusted elements of the 18th comprising most of the 1st and 3rd Battallions (there were three Battallions in total in the 18th Mill.). However as a significant part of the contigent survived, Eidolon ordered Justinian (by then firmly loyal to the Primarch and the Traitor cause) to eliminate the loyalist remants of the 18th. Justinian located Leon's survivors and attacked - but as was the fate of the entire III Legion the ultimate victory came at a very high cost... After the end of the battle, the 18th had effectively ceased to exist. Justinian survived but now his command was more like a warband of less than 500 warriors compared to almost 2,800 at its peak. This was largely attributed to the fact that the 2nd Battallion although numerically superior to the 1st (after the 1st suffered significant losses due to the virus bombing and subsequent firestorm) it lacked the weapons to fight against well entrenched and prepared troops. The III Battallion on the other hand, although the least populous, was the more heavily armed and trained to static war. Thuse the defenders put up a stong fight until they run out of ammunition... Despite steep losses and without flinching, the 2nd Battallion confronted the entrenched loyalists and killed them to a man. This was conducted in an unemotinal fashion by the 2nd Battallion who seemed unaffected by their horrendous casualties as well as their horrendous actions. After the Isstvan Atrocity, Justinian brifely became the effective leader of the remants of the 18th but following the Legion reorganization he and his troops became an autonomous unit under Lord Eidolon's command to undertake specific missions capitalising on their hit and run expertise. Thus the remannts of the 2nd Battallion of the 18th Millenial became known solely by their nickname: the Sang Froid. Knight of the Raven
So that's why they're called the Cold Blood. Good lore and good painting. I can't help but laugh at their wristbands though (even if they're well painted), it makes me think they're slitting their wrists in angst while screeching 'CRAWLING IN MY SKIIIIIIN' before every battle. TheForgottenAngel
This army is seriously so awesome Capt. It is very well executed! I like that instead of tattered cloth on the kakophoni you went with skin! Presumably from victims of the Istavaan V or III? Captain Semper
Okey guys, the Kakophoni are done! :) Now this was an out of sequence unit as it is not included in the list on the first page. So now I have to focus on the things that ARE in the list. MkIV Assault squads coming next! http://i1204.photobucket.com/albums/bb402/ackool/Emperors%20Children/SAM_0632_zpsef67ca28.jpg http://i1204.photobucket.com/albums/bb402/ackool/Emperors%20Children/SAM_0633_zpsb5b82fc0.jpg http://i1204.photobucket.com/albums/bb402/ackool/Emperors%20Children/SAM_0635_zps1ffc026f.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/282015-horus-heresy-emperors-children-the-sang-froid/page/7/#findComment-3546395 Share on other sites

Knight of the Raven
I just realized what the leader of these music junkies sorely lacked.Guitar strings attached to his axe.You can't have a proper killer guitar solo without them, warp or no warp. You just can't. Good painting, again. I also noticed just now the red of his axe handle. It looks nice. Captain Semper
Thanks guys - your comments keep me going! @ Forte: Brings back memories... @ Knight of the Raven: You think red and purple go well together? Funny thing is, yesterday I was kind of eager to paint and, as my Sang Froid are in the post, I put together a mini out of spares. I just started without thinking, got MkVI legs, a MkIV torso, helmet (Nuncio Vox) and shoulder pads while the hands must by MkVII... Back pack is also nuncio vox, and the bolter is a umbra pattern... go figure. Then without thinking I took red paint. Here's the result: http://i1204.photobucket.com/albums/bb402/ackool/Emperors%20Children/SAM_0648_zps1f2d4ba3.jpg http://i1204.photobucket.com/albums/bb402/ackool/Emperors%20Children/SAM_0649_zps9abafcd7.jpg http://i1204.photobucket.com/albums/bb402/ackool/Emperors%20Children/SAM_0650_zps361b3b0f.jpg And that's how a Word Bearer Seeker squad is born... I will order the appropriate bolters later on - the current one is a stand in! Sooooooo, the Purple and the Red! http://i1204.photobucket.com/albums/bb402/ackool/Emperors%20Children/SAM_0651_zps6923d11d.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/282015-horus-heresy-emperors-children-the-sang-froid/page/7/#findComment-3548141 Share on other sites
Tyrannicide
It's a very well painted deep red, but I don't think it's that unmistakable Word Bearers red. To each their own and all that, though. Captain Semper
You're right Darth... I was looking at it and was thinking... Word Bearers? hmmm... maybe not. Blood Angels? What kind of red is this then? Then it struck me! Thousand Sons! :o Especially if you see him up close - its brighter than it looks in the pic. However, I like it. I will probably complete the squad in the same colors and see how it looks as a group. *note to self: BUY A GOOD CAMERA THAT DOES NOT SHOW EVERYTHING BLURRED* Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/282015-horus-heresy-emperors-children-the-sang-froid/page/7/#findComment-3548155 Share on other sites

Knight of the Raven
I agree that he needs a darker red if you want him to be a Word Bearer. Maybe a simple Nuln Oil wash would be enough, and also make his armor look less plain (compared to the detail-heavy one of palatine blades and kakophoni, that is). Forté
Wouldn't go with Nuln Oil personally. I'd add some dark green or blue to make a wash to shade. But keep it really thin and push it towards the darkest areas. But that's me ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/282015-horus-heresy-emperors-children-the-sang-froid/page/7/#findComment-3551483 Share on other sites
