What 2014 will bring

Had my first test game last night: Psyk phase draws the game out a bit, May get better once more familiar with it. Bit confusing about how our librarians operate. We need a dex or FAQ quick! But I guess a librarian now only generates one power and gets primaris too? Epostalries seem the way forward... More expense!

Jump packs were great for getting all the tactical objectives, but it's down to the luck of the draw as what you're trying to achieve. And rolling charge through cover with 3 dice is now auto, taking 2 away is weird.

Does it still say to roll 3 dice for charging through cover? That does seem weird.

Wings of Sanguinius users took a big hit; can't activate it until after the first movement phase now.

Am sure many things will be addressed in FAQ-to-be but if it is cast in concrete that psychic powers may only be cast in the psychic phase, will people still be using WoS on Mephy?

Our mobility could be a boon if you get a lucky draw on the cards. Personally I would play without the cards if I could choose; they put victory more in the hands of chance than skill it seems.

Leaning more and more to 4 landraiders with 2 vindicators and a Baal. Until the new codex at least.

Dreads should be a little more resilient in theory, with the new damage chart.

No nerf to ignores cover so frag cannons are still good but they took a slight knock from the new wound allocation rules, which made things more as they should have been anyway.

Main problem for dreads will still be death by glancing on side and rear armour. No change there.

Realise this thread is mostly to do with rules but I noticed something that may be interesting regarding what 2014 may bring...

Book 1 of the 7th Ed "package", the one that is basically the miniatures showcase, depicts the individual codex books in model form and highlight the Chapter Master relevant to the Marine books. So...

Space Marines - Marneus Calgar

Dark Angels - Azrael

Space Wolves - Logan

but

Blood Angels have Astorath. You would have expected to see Dante (or at the very least Mephiston as the second most recogniseable BA character after all these years). Does this imply that a Dante resculpt is indeed in the offering come our new book perhaps? I could see it being the case, as why showcase an old model that is soon to be replaced by a "better" one, which encourages you to go out and buy it.

Just a thought, and hopefully this would apply to Mephy as well in which case.

That's actually a big fear of mine.

In the Ogryn box you can make two unit variants and Nork; something that WFB has been doing for years. Personally, I would hate if Dante was folded into the (rumoured) SG/BB box.

I'd be really surprised if Dante came in a squad box personally. Whilst they've been doing it in WFB for a while, Nork is not a million miles away from the rank and file he commands design-wise. I would still think that a new Dante model would far out-strip the current design for the Sanguinary Guard, thereby ensuring he comes separate. Who knows though, GW is a bit nuts sometimes tongue.png

No, you just -2 from 2D6 roll through terrain. It takes some getting used to. Think u just get 're roll if you use jumpP to charge. Harder to make a 9" charge through cover than it used to be.

Never thought about the WoS prob but there it is! Personally I believe they have to sort that out pronto.

You can play without the cards / tactical objectives. But for a jump pack / fast vehicle army it's fun to do for a change!

My fragioso podded Down next to 2 rhinos and failed to get first blood. Partly bad rolling, partly the tough damage chart. I imagine DCo Dread will do far better as ignores shaken and stunned results!

Was a bonus to reroll WL traits as battle forged army. Got 6 on tactical traits so bonus for WL scoring. All good clean fun!

If they are taking away something that has made the Blood Angels unique for so long now, surely they will give something back in return.

After seeing the stats for the new ork Morkonaut and bearing in mind the rumour of a new ork vs BA starter set, I wonder if we also are in for a new dread or at least something special to add to what we have. After all we are, amongst other things, supposed to be well known for our dreadnoughts.

Let me tell you about the age of High adventure...

But seriously, they muck with BA advantages all the time. I don't foresee them doing any different this time. Unless this is a typo (doubt it), chances are its going into our book and possibly having us buy the upgrade. The price of the vehicle is what concerns me most as we already pay enough for the upgrade.

I'd like to see a plasma predator variant for you guys. Or a grav variant.

Cool ideas, but they don't seem likely. The Baal is all about close firepower. That would suggest melta, as the natural compliment to flame (flamestorm cannon & heavy flamers) and short to mid ranged dakka (assault cannon & heavy bolters).

What 2014 will bring you say?

Agony and despair!

So far...

Before we get all downified, note the FAQ. There's definitely some negative stuff in there - like apparently all our vehicles except the Baal being no longer fast - but the ML 2 upgrade for our librarians was halved in price!

I'll stick with positivity as well. Some things have changed but I'm sure we can still win games regardless. Just have to figure out what we can do and play to our strengths.

Still really looking forward to our codex drop though. Hopefully that will make it easier to find those strengths.
