A bit of WIP on the herald. I got a lot done due to a day off today.

The Herald conversion looking really cool as well as the drop kicked Eldar.

Have you though of maybe making a few object marker like this?

I, Kierdale, hereby make my fourth vow of this year's ETL to complete the following model by August 15th:One Herald of Slaanesh with one greater reward (the lash of despair) and the Locus of Beguilement (you'll see that in her base), from Codex: Chaos Daemons, for 95 points.

And she's completed!

And that's me done for this ETL. :)

now to get those rhinos done...

You really have a knack for doing dynamic bases. That herald is quite superb, and one of the most uniquely posed miniatures I've seen in a while. The great paint job is just the cherry on the Slaaneshi sundae.

If I had one singular complaint, it's that aside from the claw, head and (gorgeous) purple skin, she doesn't look hugely Daemonic. I personally would have given her a secondary set of arms or a few extra breasts, but that said I could just be nitpicking. It's a fantastic model, and when I next build some Daemonettes I'l be getting the Wych Elves box.

Thanks for the comments.

Yes, she's not as fancy as the other herald. I'll see how things go (with making more Daemonettes...I do want a lot more) and she may get more limbs...or alternatively downgraded to just an Alluress...or a fancily-based Daemonette.

Rhino progress:

The first one. The purple areas still need more coats and, even using masking tape, it's been hell gettin straight edges so I'm going to add some darker green and purple to the edges, and probably some decoration to remove the irritation of straight edges.

The second will have tentacles painted on, sweeping across from the pink side to the blue and in the opposite direction.

Suggestions for further (painted) decoration are also welcome! :)

I'm torn on whether or not to weather them (unintentional pun there).

I'm heavily weathering the Biel-Tan Eldar they're against for a couple of reasons, firstly because Eldar always look very clean and for a race in decline I want mine to look like it, and secondly to show a contrast between the beaten-up Biel-Tan defenders of the maiden world (my AoP board/entry) and the unblemished glory of (the pawns of) She Who Must Not Be Named....

but, as you say, weathering -especially on such large panels- really does make a tank.

So...perhaps a liiiiittle. ;)

After looking at the dazzle-camo one again this morning after a night's sleep I think I can clean up the straights which were concerning me so last night. And might add blue sections too as there is still a lot of pink there.

A little weathering can hide minor mistakes too...

That "camo"...homina homina. The first one reminds me of Luftwaffe splinter camo...except pastel. Either way I love it. The second one looks great too, and reminds me I really REALLY need a new airbrush (and an airbrushing booth).

Re: Splinter-camo Rhino: I'm not sure how it will look once it's got the other detail painted on, but perhaps it would look good with some grey sections added to the scheme to add some contrast? Perhaps add simple grey "lightning bolts" (of the angular hazard sign variety, not Night Lords literal lightning) or jagged stripes? Historically, dazzle camo used bright colours broken up with dark colours for added contrast/outline break-up/eye-searing factor. Animals like zebras use a similar approach. Like I say, though, I don't know how it will look once the other bits are painted so YMMV.

Re: Fade Rhino: What colour are you planning on doing the painted tentacles? I'd personally suggest dark sea green or purple.

Re: Weathering: May I suggest weathering powders? I've not got much experience with them (I've got some of Tamiya's powders) but they are superb. Use some on the bottom parts of the tank to suggest road dust (colour is up to you), black for soot/scorch marks etc. You can get Tamiya's, Forge World's, or if you're feeling adventurous you could grind up cheap chalk pastels and make your own.

And finally, I'm currently building a Rhino and a Land Raider, both of which will be bedecked in raised trim made from styrene. My army is being done in "traditional" EC black, pink and gold, but for the vehicles I'm considering mixing things up a bit. I have a few ideas but I'm not sure what to go with.

1: Paint "normally" (predominantly black with pink panels and iron or gold trim).

2: Paint "normally" but with some additional colour breakup in the form of dazzle camo (I'm thinking bright teal "lightning bolts", flame patterns or possibly cavorting daemonettes ala that Flawless Host Fire Raptor from IA13).

3: Go completely nuts and do the whole thing, save the trim, in black, pink (and possibly teal) "camo", be it splinter, dazzle or panzer-inspired "octopus" camo.

@Res - I know exactly what you mean! :D hideous isn't it?

@Squigsquasher - the blue/pink one was sprayed with good ol' rattle cans actually!

I'll add the blue and see how that is before I add grey or 'normal' colours. :)

And yes, as you say, it's more splinter camo than dazzle. I must try some proper dazzle camo sometime...and Saab Viggen style splinter camo!

As for your own scheme, I know that Flawless Host raptor! Fantastic stuff!

I'd say do that, or dazzle. :tu:

@The Jeske - if you do find any images like that, please show me! :tu: I'm always looking for ideas to steal.

Thanks, all.

Oh, Squigsquasher, I forgot to mention I do have some Tamiya weathering powders (excellent they are, too). I'll use them on the rhinos and perhaps on biker tyres too for consistency.

Though I'd like to do a relic predator and a laser destroyed vindicator (both magnetised, naturally) sometime my priority is these two rhinos and a third one which is a captured Sororitas one. Mainly black, I'll paint it separately.

Then the dreadclaw and after that I doubt I'll have time for much before Armies on Parade.

Thanks, all.

Sigh. It seems that 9 out of ten times if Sisters have any interaction with Chaos, it's Slaanesh. That being said, I still look forward to seeing what you do.

I know what I say shouldn't really affect your decision making, but please don't have Sisters tied up on a Slaanesh vehicle. Every Sister's player has seen that kind of thing a hundred times, and I just find the whole thing unpleasant.

Edited by Servant of Dante

Don't worry, I'm not going down that -as you said- well-trodden path.

Beside the reasons you gave, buying metal Sisters and posing them (in) appropriately would be hell.

Stood atop the Rhino is a Daemonette holding a severed sister head. Other than that there will be blood stained Sororitas icons, defiled text, a leather drape of flayed skin with a face in it...

Nothing sexual.

Thanks, all.

Yeah, it's a bit messed up how often that dialog occurs.

If you are set on sororitas trophies, I would go for severed heads or similar, rather than whole sisters tied up on the vehicle, a bit less problematic.

I really want to create some khornate sisters at some point though, not that it is super relevant to who they are fighting but I feel like sisters are most likely to fall to Khorne (rage and violence, plus witch hate), then Tzeentch/Nurgle(hope in the emperor/stubborn resolve), and only finally Slaanesh(mainly out of an obsession with purity rather than some sort of sexual theme, I don't see sisters or marines as being particularly vulnerable to that aspect of Slaanesh's portfolio).
