Turn 2

The Ork reserves arrive, with multiple units outflanking behind the Raven Guard army

While a few ork units move to stop my podding units

the LoS from My Master of Signal and artillery battery...the wounded Stompa tries to hide

The Raven Guard reinforcements arrive to counter the outflanking Ork units

The Praetor and Command Squad wipe out some traks and use the Massacre move to swing further upfield

the Leviathan moves to charge a Gorkanaut but fails the charge roll

the Stompa, despite the onboard Meks fixing 2 hull points, is brought down by the massed firepower of the Raven Guard. The Contemptor, who emerged from the rubble to charge the monster instead charges one of the units to emerge from the wreck. (the exploding Stompa was a letdown as I rolled a 1 for the explosion. Bummer.)

the Leviathan charges a Ard Boyz unit with Mek and Ork witch, but the survives the charge

Turn 3

More Ork reseres arrive

the Deredeo begins to fill the skies with gunfire, but the Ork pilots prove agile enough to shrug off much of the damage

the Gorkanaut charges the Leviathan!

An Ork Dreadnought charges into combat of the Orks and Contemptor

A mob and biker unit charge the Leviathan to bail out the Weird Boy and Ard Boyz

the Leviathan kills several Ard Boyz who flee from combat, but the newly arrived mob stays locked in combat

the Contemptor tears the Dreadnought to shreds but loses a HP to the Nobz power claw

MORTAL KOMBAT!

The Gorkanaut utterly destroys the Levithan

the Imperial Knight stares down the victorious Gorkanaut

The Tactical Support squad lands behind the other Gorkanaut

the Knight and Gorkanaut do battle!

the Gorkanaut takes 4 hull points of damage, but has 5. The Imperial Knight isnt so lucky and loses its last 3 Hull points. In death, the exploding Knight takes away the last Hull point

the Contemptor continues to smash the Orks

But a lone Nob survives

Turns 4-7 pt1

the Assault Marines chop through an Ork mob and move to engage the Ork artillery

the Leviathan continues to be mobbed, while the Ork Nob is unable to penetrate the armor of the Dreadnought. The Orks stay locked in combat and the Nob repeatedly kills his own boyz to stay locked in

a formation of Bombas arrive and the Mor Deythan are completely wiped out while the Volkite Support squad has a single survivor

3 Ork Nobz use their kill saws to chop 2 drop pods to pieces

The Dark Furies engage the Battle wagon while Corax and Praetor move to engage the Ork Nobz

Corax singles out the Nob leader and butchers him without mercy

the Dark Furies move to help the Leviathan while also charging a trukk, then hit and run from combat

The Ork Warboss and his Nobz squad wipe out the Contemptor Dreadnought

Table view

an Ork Dreadnought wipes out the Assault Marine squad and moves to charge a Tactical Squad. The Praetor and Corax suffer many, many shooting attacks and the Praetor is slain and Corax loses 3 wounds

Turns 4-7 pt2

The Leviathan continues to whittle down the Ork mob with help of the Ork Nob, who kills almost as many Orks as the Leviathan!

a tactical squad engages 2 separate Ork Coptas, being not even the Sergeant's lightning claw can do more than a single wound

the Ork Dreadnought chases the fleeing Tactical Marines

ALMOST. THERE.

Corax, the last Dark Fury and Apothecary charge an ork Mob. The last of the Volkite squad charges first and falls to Overwatch

Wipingout the Orks, Corax, the Dark Fury and Apothecary move deeper into my deployment zone to avoid the Ork shooting

the Dark Fury and Apoethcary fall to massed Ork fire, and despite healing wounds earlier, Corax is now dropped to his last wound. a last Ork Copta charges to attempt to kill the Primarch

at the Orks turn 7, the Leviathan finally kills off the last of the Ork mob

the Leviathan moves to open fire on the Ork Warboss and Nobz mob, unloading his grav bombard, volkites and phosphex on them. Despite the mass wounds, the KFF and Painboyz FnP save the majority of the unit

After slaying the Copta, Corax attacks the Ork Dreadnought and wipes him out in close combat

The game ends at Turn 7.

Corax has 1 wound left, all of my Troops were destroyed, all of the Dark Furies were dead, the only things I have above half strength are the Leviathan, Artillery battle with Master of Signals and Praetor with Command Squad.

The orks are still combat effective, with maybe 1500-2000 points left in the rear ranks.

The score of the game is 18 to 13, in my favor.

VICTORY TO THE RAVEN GUARD

Things I learned:

-I am pathetically open to flyers. I need to invest more in killing them. The Deredeo and Missile Launcher Support Squad arent enough.

-I need to learn how to use the Knight better

If it wasnt for the massive amount of points I earned in killing the stompa (through a combination of cards and HH scoring, I earned 10 points in turn 2 from its death)

All for now,

WLK

This game was a blast! I hadn't actively realized how much damage I had done to your Knight prior to reading it. It's a lot to keep track of.

I feel like the Orks preformed very well during the game and I was very careless with a few units. Looking back at it I still had 5 full units that had taken no casualties at all. I had a full 20 shoota boys just standing around all game Which should have moved over to engage your drop pod in my Deployment Zone with the Nobs power Klaw.

I liked what you said after the game about the orks forcing you to react every turn. That was more or less my goal. The Orks wanted to be able to move deep into your deployment zone or at least well out of our own. Being able to reach further away objectives and threaten any of your rear guard units. And. Not be trapped in our own back field.

I was very impressed with how well the Gorkanauts did over the few turns they go to "do". I'd not expected to see them survive through much combat. I'm surprised how meaningful 5 hull points actually are. that 5th hull point being the difference between being nuked off the board or limping away. A luxury I'm sure you'll find a way to take from them. haha.

I made every attempt to frag Corax. He's a tough one for sure!  I was well impressed with one of my Deff Dreads. it finished off some assault Marines and later chased down a load of tac marines in an over run.! Best 80 points ever! lol. I think it really goes to show just how powerful ATSKNF really is for Marines in 40K.  But honestly the likelihood of an I2 Dread running down I4 Marines is very slim. Just some funny luck on both sides.
One thing that's confused/bothered me is, after you destroyed the battle wagon...what ever became of the Big Mek on board? There was so much going on all over the table I forgot all about him when His mighty ride was destroyed. Clearly he didn't jump to safety in time! (...Or did he! )

I think we played for nearly 10 hours. Maybe more like 8 but who knows.
More thoughts about this later.
Thanks for posting the report!

The battle reports are great, serioussly love them!

Uberwolve, your orks are painted fantastically!!

WLK, you got to get that knight painted fella... and those pods

Well, until very recently I wasnt sure I was going to keep the Knight. I had collected 3, but slowly traded them away to just 1. I held onto 1 and basically tossed it on my work shelf and forgot about it...until my previous game with Brother Gruis and Rayray. Seeing 5 Knights across from me made me realize that I cannot ignore the potent power the Knight represents, and that I am woefully outgunned in the BFG department.

I may be planning to rectify that soon, or just rely on running away and letting team mates handle them. Im really unsure as Knights represent a significant time/$$$ investment.

the pods...gah, I really do. this isnt a great time for me (baby sister is getting married 12/17, christmas is the following week, working in a doctor's office during Flu season) and what little time I do have i usually just sit looking at models on my desk wishing I could figure out where the mental block is and break it down. I have painted some Siege Tyrants and played with color schemes for the Vlka Fenryka, but Im a game based player. If Im not gaming on a semi-regular basis, my motivation is dryer than the Sahara Desert at noon during summer.

and I agree, Uber's Orks look fantastic.

WLK

I was thinking it might be a good idea for the Orks to start to try to restrict their list to be more inline with the Legions restrictions. As much as I enjoyed the game I think my list was a little unfair. What do you think ?  I know those Aircraft were a bothersome. It still gets me that the game came down to two cards and Corax. I don't think I've won a game all year! So close! So very close!

Well, you could always send them to me for painting :tongue.:

and what are the odds I'd get them back???

What do you mean, how would you restrict them?

Well I reviewed the scores again, and for you to win you would have had to kill Corax and roll a 5/6 for the d3 roll. A 3-4 would have earned a tie and 1-2 would have had you losing by 1. I am, of course, always up for a rematch.

Lol that depends.

I like painting knights but I have 2 in the backlog and I would like to get at least 1 levi on the paint block.

BoP stuff is on hold till March.

I think the Knight may jump up my paint list once I figure out a paint scheme

The scale and openness of the Knight leaves a lot of space. I want to plan out how I'm painting it before I tackle it

  • 2 weeks later...

Picked this up just before Christmas. "Local" store had it priced at 19.99

And since I never liked the hula-hoop pose, I had to modify it a bit

I'm not sure what I'm going to do with him, but I'm still plugging away on the Iron Warriors. I'll try to get some pics of them up later

Looksgood.

You have ditched the hula hoop pose, now he looks a bit shambling zombie-ish

Crack his armour a wee bit, a few pox marks, some wings from say a Tomb King carrion model or similar and you got a nurgle worshipping Primarch!!.

I was thinking of looking for chains like the Dark Eldar shardnet and make a cloak of chains for him

Thought that may be kinda creepy

There's also some chain-bits in the Chaos Lord-set, from the loincloth I believe. Might be able to score a few of those from bitz-sellers?

Thank you for that.

I knew there had to be something, but I couldn't put my finger in it.

Ideas I had: flayed people from old Vampire sets, bone or chain

I thought it would show off the whole "Death" angle that Mortarion represents.

This is a slooooooow burn project for me, so I'm trying to get ideas and suggestions before jumping in.

The Chaos Lord on Manticore also has some rather nifty chain-cape-thingy going on.

Nice!

I was looking at whatever new Trollslayers are called, but didn't like them as much as I thought i would

I've got one of those In my bitz box I'm not using.

Between this and the contemptor head for perturabo, Im damn close to starting the Cult of Steve
