The way you've done the corroded and battered metal is just brilliant, the pallour of the Destroyer's skin suits the effects of his weaponry well, though perhaps a blue or green tinge could be a way to heighten this unhealthy effect?

Thanks a lot, the metal effect was actually the main draw to painting Iron Warriors in the first place.

As for the destroyer skin, does have a glaze of green in there, but I was pretty concerned about it going overboard. The main goal was to make him very pale in a way that wasn't albino; in theory the breacher should have had a more rugged skin tone to contrast, but hes also strapped in to a contraption so he could be pale too.

I think 'pale but not albino' is certainly the way to go, this isn't a natural pallour we're seeing here!

Fair point about not going overboard with the green too, with such colours on pale flesh it's easy to slip from sickly tinge to something out of a super hero film...

I'll just need to go for more of a ruddy skin tone with anyone else who's unhelmeted (and not hooked up to bionics or any other invasive thing) to really set the contrast. That being said, the next bare headed guy is a destroyer who's also heavily bionic'd up lol

Aye, I like to add varying levels of height to bases, even if it's just around the model's feet as opposed to making some fellows taller than others. Adding general detritus such as scattered armour plate or barbed wire is a fun way to play around with adding colours to the force that wouldn't normally be there too.

Next model is going to be a bit of a change, as its a vehicle and has even more opportunities for weathering, grit and general iron warriors coolness. Unfortunately, I can't take credit for such an awesome conversion; my buddy Crablezworth has a real knack for making geared-up models and they happen to be fit my vision of how Iron Warriors would be kitted out almost perfectly.

Now, I will have a few more rhino hulls, so I could either use this a Veteran squad's rhino or even a damocles in game.

Thanks Charlo, but like with the rhino they were my buddy's. He likes converting far more than painting and is also a bit inflexible on army lists. So as a result he never really got the time to paint them and sold them to me for cheap.

Basically anything that has a heavy blend of mk7 and preheresy was his

Man, that rhino is fantastic, props to your friend! It may actually helped me to reconcile mars pattern vehicles with the Heresy aesthetics. I know that they were around, since you know, this pattern comes from Mars, but to me it usually screams too much 40K as is. But properly modified and filled with the appropriate extras, it fits right in the middle of a late Heresy conflict. I actually wanted to include some Mars rhinos to my IF as it kinda fits for the blocky aesthetics and their preeminence in Terra, which makes getting war material from Mars relatively easy (even though it gets disputed early on during the Heresy, part of the Fists were already stationed there starting to fortify). This rhino might make me bite the bullet. Looking forward to seeing it painted and suitably weathered!

And I'm loving the heavy weathered scheme, it lends so well to the Iron warriors it is kinda weird to see them with pristine armour (and I'm not saying it just because I'm an Imperial Fist :D).

I'll be sure to tell him that when I pick up some havocs, recons and a melta support from him.

And I find the scheme only really comes together at the weathering stage. The dark metal and stark highlights make it really odd up until it all gets brought together

So starting that weathering phase, got the tank lined in with skraag brown to sell the idea of pervasive dust on a long campaign. Just this step has added a lot to the model imo, I have to highlight it with ironbreaker next, before any of the main weathering on the silver plates.

Wow absolutely love the weathering - all of these guys look like they've had a really hard time of it!

What weathering powders/kits are you using with the Rhino? I always find it a very hard thing to know when to stop with tanks, so you don't end up with something that looks like it's been sat in a Mad Max scrapyard for 50 years!

I'm going to use the same stuff and method I use for all of my guys;

Leadbelcher

Agrax

Nuln

Line in watered Skraag

Highlight with Iron Breaker

Stipple/chip mithril

Stipple/chip rhinox

Stipple/chip abbadon

Stipple/chip lead belcher

FW's dark earth  powder on the feet and ankles.

So all in all, most of its in the painting rather than oil washes or weathering powders or gloss washes.
