So I finished up that allied 1000 (barring missing combi bolter on the rhino).

The list looks something like this:

Golg

5 combi-launcher tartaros

5 melta support in rhino

5 autocannon havocs

1 quad launcher

Now, there's a lot that's just for the hell of it, and a lot more of that stuff in the future too. My current Golg will be turning into a Prime Nullificator once I get the BaC captain and will get a mystical osl around the hood and eyes to represent the level 1 psyker. Another thing worth mentioning is that I (mostly) shied away from using the chevrons as hazard stripes and instead used them as honour markings. Everyone has them somewhere, but the least elite warriors have the smallest iterations which are also sometimes fairly hard to make out due to the weathering; such is the life of breach fodder.

That's a nice, well worn looking force. What's next on the painting/building table?

Thanks man.

It honestly should be the other 9 breachers for a legal, non allied list. But the second quad mortar and rest of the destroyers are a lot closer. And I have some power armoured recons. And a Cerberus. And 3 Medusas. And 2 scorpii

Absolutely cracking job - man do those guys look like they have been through the wars! Brilliant.

Love the work on the eye pieces, plasma gun and scanner - the glow really sets off nicely against the darkened metal.

Thanks, I had to revisit the green a few times on the scanners to get the saturation down.

I am hoping for no more mark 7 helmets, since the eye pieces I find have always had some shallow definition.

Bit of an update time. I've slowly been getting a bunch of stuff to about the same standard of half-finished; recess shaded with skraag, but not highlighted and weathered past that. As a result I have 9 breachers, 5 recons, 4 destroyers and a quad mortar all in the queue, but I got distracted by making (and then painting) my own model to represent Kyr Vhalen and also Tyrant Siege Terminators.

I used Seargent Chronus as a base for him. The unique helm, servo arm, armour and pose were all very appealing; the finecast also made it easy to shave off all the ultra symbols. The volkite pistol and paragon "blade" are from anvil, with some OOP brass etch to sell the model.

For the paintjob, I found that some of my techniques didn't translate so well as there's a lot of cramped space on the armour. In the end, I'm not the biggest fan of the chevrons on the pads, but there was enough other bling so i didn't want to overdo it. The pouches, parchment and base still not to be finished, but he's otherwise done.

I've been spending a large part of today working on my first 5 of 10 Tyrants. I love these models. Bonding studs on terminators have always looked cool, doubly so for the spiked versions, and these guys are loaded. The one thing I didn't do was add the crotch parts, as I don't think they add too much to the models. Currently they're half done. Their armour needs a highlight and battle-damage, then leather, lenses base and weathering powder

I feel like now is a good opportunity to address my ideas on the chevrons on a lot of models, as the tyrants have a large amount compared to my other models and especially troops. To me, the idea that they're "hazard stripes" is ridiculous; space marines wouldn't need visual reminders that a surface is dangerous, so they're honour markings. The more distinguished the model, the more they have; my power armour seargents have a full pad, my terminator seargent has both, breachers only have it on the special weapons (excluding seargent), etc... The placement also is dependent on squads, I like to think certain seargents enforce a strict uniformity, while others don't care; the recons all have them on the same knee pad to maintain their unobtrusiveness. All this is to say, I don't really want to paint a lot of stripes on compulsory troops, especially the more "disposable" units". Breachers and Tacticals are going to be hurled away, while dedicated weapon specialists, trained reconnaissance teams and long-surviving vehicles will be more favoured.

Chronus conversion came up nicely. I think the intent with the hazard stripes was they were on experimental equipment/ stuff IW's had modified from stock- especially on weapons. Seems like an easy way to cataloger stuff that needs stock replacements parts over custom ones.

I really like the Chronus conversion. I might steal that for my Dark Angels.

RE The chevrons: Both your idea, as well as MegaVolt's one, makes a lot of sense. On weapons, ESPECIALLY ones the Iron Warriors have fiddled with from stock, it makes sense for there to be "hazard stripes". But on their armour? Definitely makes more sense as honour-markings.

Thanks, the only thing about chronus is that he's small. The height is actually fine, but his limbs are narrower than anything else around currently. Which is a shame, because other wise he fits in so perfectly

Ah, okay. Hmm... Might take some extra effort to get him right then.

Ah well, if all else fails, I have Mark III thighs from when I made my Berzerkers for my World Eaters

The thighs should help a lot, but the bottoms of the legs might look too small as a result.

Hmmm.... Okay then.

Maybe just get him and stick him in the Land Raider Ares I'll be building in the next couple months then instead
