GhostMalone
Very dynamic pose on that Deredeo, I modelled mine mostly stationary but it's a great kit regardless :-) Thanks mate yeah my first attempt was static but I know my limitations now. Also I have to ask is the format I'm presenting these Reviews in, helpful or annoying? I'm trying to keep it informal yet give a bit of a guide. I'm up to changing the format but it depends on how I'm coming across, don't want to give too much stupidity to the community Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/307114-kurama-reviews-the-horus-heresy-series-and-products/page/7/#findComment-4311487 Share on other sites
Ishagu
No it's great. To be honest it's nice just to see the various bits unboxed, I know better what to expect from the kits :-) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/307114-kurama-reviews-the-horus-heresy-series-and-products/page/7/#findComment-4311491 Share on other sites

From poorly written characters to the worst possible form of scene jumping and leaving massive gaps in the story. This book feels rushed and since it's roughly based on the odyssey it feels to forced for a novel, it's trying to be an epic within the confines of 508 pages. Now a quick run through of the story, the surviving Salamanders are on macragge just hanging out in imperium secundus whilst numeon is being brutally tortured by a host of wordbearers that have an epic plan to use numeon to get to Vulkans corpse, after being left alone he casually escapes and comes across Aeonid thiel and the Red marked that are like bro you haven't heard Vulkans dead. They then proceed to capture the surviving word bearers and head back to Ultamar meanwhile narek former word bearer now going by kaspian hecht has a case of split personality and repressed memories because he's now a great bloke because reasons! Arriving into Vulkans little mausoleum numeon has a cry convinces his brothers to lead Vulkan back to Nocturne and bravely upsets Guilliman and the lion with his belief that his plot Armour should protect him through the warp. After some terrible plot advancement they make it into the warp meet up with kaspian hect get chased by Death Guard and word bearers, lose 90% off their brothers get it on with deamonetts, have ferrus mannus and his magic finger try to cut open Vulkan, have magnus intervene and get them to Nocturne, have the death guard fleet which comprised a handful of ships decide we can take on a legion home world and a whole other load of complete bull:cuss which can only be covered by acts of faith as reasons, finally return to Nocturne then throw Vulkan into Mt doom sorry I mean deathfire only to have nothing happen until months later when numeon goes and walks off into the distance only to find Vulkan then walking around holding the spear embedded in his chest and be like ha I trolled you :cussers all this time. This book had too much going on and was just a way to try tie up loose ends and make sense of a horribly written plot arc. I feel that any fans of the Salamanders should be ashamed of the treatment of their Legion and boycott such horrid writing. So out of 10 I'd say battle for the abyss is a better read and I'd score that 3/10.http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/20160220_142513_zpsoisrsy8r.jpgnow in all honesty I hated this book and found it hard to finish, so I'll do a pic dump and that's it, if you enjoyed it that's great I personally couldn't find anything redeeming about this read and wouldn't recommend it as really the whole storyline doesn't give you anything but a convenient way to kill of characters.http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/20160220_142522_zpsy0easirr.jpghttp://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/20160220_142539_zpsixbmltwx.jpghttp://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/20160220_142548_zpsfs8p6dcg.jpgmost of these characters appeared in the first third of the book then die by the end of the book George r Martin would be proud.http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/20160220_142604_zpsrntttof1.jpghttp://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/20160220_142613_zpsljbqmvy9.jpghttp://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/20160220_142700_zps5rhmzs6u.jpghttp://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/20160220_142726_zpseabxw63h.jpghttp://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/20160220_142752_zps6yup6h3n.jpghttp://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/20160220_142816_zpsxc03ozez.jpghttp://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/20160220_142839_zpsiitmzdcv.jpgso sorry guys but this one was a flop and if you haven't read it pass up on it and put your money towards a better read like Betrayer or thousand sons etc. Or better yet take a photo of saved money and send said photo to Nick Kyme and say you will pay him not to write trash like this and that you'd much rather stories like Scorched Earth Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/307114-kurama-reviews-the-horus-heresy-series-and-products/page/7/#findComment-4313638 Share on other sites

It should stay there in fact if you run out of toilet paper I believe it can be used in its stead. I got to part 2 of the book before I started getting bored of it, then I'd be lucky if I'd read a chapter a month & as some chapters are 4 pages long (I'm looking at you chapter 26!) It was still too much garbage to process Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/307114-kurama-reviews-the-horus-heresy-series-and-products/page/7/#findComment-4313703 Share on other sites
helterskelter
I think nick Kymes style lends itself better to audio. I went to a BL open day and listened to him read a snippet from one of his books, and has he read it, you heard it as intended as opposed to the difficult read his work usually is. I feel bad because he ain't a bad dude, it's just his writing style Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/307114-kurama-reviews-the-horus-heresy-series-and-products/page/7/#findComment-4313712 Share on other sites
GhostMalone
I do agree with you, I personally loved the tome of fire trilogy for 40k and also loved the way he handled Scorched Earth, this however was an abortion. I can understand if you have a style you write to but a basic grasp of narrative is needed for books that should be a key plot point for a legion. If it was Nemesis or damnation of pythos I wouldn't have cared as much but when your talking about a primarch a legion master and stuff you don't just use reasons faith or plot Armour to advance your story it's an insult to the lore of the xviiith and I feel a primarch that can revive and is near immortal could have been handled better and that a missed opportunity has occurred as our now cannon history is :cuss in regards to vulkan Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/307114-kurama-reviews-the-horus-heresy-series-and-products/page/7/#findComment-4313719 Share on other sites

OK I need to rant here! Now I work in Construction and I particularly have specialties in dozens and loaders, now I don't know why forgeworld designed this "dozerblade" like this, in no way can you move material or remove solid barricades yes its true to artwork but practicality dictates that this is not a dozer blade, im very very annoyed with forgeworld for this as the effort they've gone to a proper dozer blade shouldn't be hard to design. In saying that I just received from subtle discords store the dark works a proper Land Raider type dozer blade which I may attach to this (if you'd like to see a review leave a comment as its a non fw product and im not sure if you guys want to see products from other companies such as mastercrafted or zealot miniatures etc)http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/20160228_162717_zps8kmzv05o.jpghttp://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/20160228_162728_zpsjij21dcg.jpgpivoting turret mount, just a big hunk of resin, I will toy with removing the bolters and adding flamers but I'm not yet sure if I will.http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-02-28%2016.33.22_zpsneqaxhfu.jpgThe Armoured casing for the sponsons great cast and I look forward to fitting them.http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/20160228_162905_zpsyzmm7jvr.jpgsponson mounts and weapons, I have spare volkites not sure if I should do a custom fit or hang off and build it as a legal entry.http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-02-28%2016.33.10_zpsqw3hxweu.jpgengine exhaustshttp://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/20160228_162944_zpsotxtlbq8.jpgfront and rear plates http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/20160228_163004_zpsxktntl2d.jpgcoupling for the engine mount and rear plates.http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-02-28%2016.32.52_zpsi8p7okor.jpgnot sure what these are exactly but I'm assuming they work in cohesion with the sponsons. Just realized they attach to the front plate and act as bearings! I'm a bloody idiothttp://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-02-28%2016.32.32_zpsdvbiwig5.jpgSome reinforced plating mountshttp://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-02-28%2016.32.15_zpsfbrblahd.jpgand finally some fiddly leftover details. So all in all forgeworld delivered a great kit with no casting issues and im hoping assembly should be a breeze. If this works out I'll be ordering another for my militia list as a dedicated transport.
