Brother-Sergeant Coriolan is nearly finished, just needs a bit of cleanup and some weathering on the transfers. The blue is coming along fairly well, I think.

Got a ton more pics to post now that I've got my photography arrangement sorted, but need to do some fluff segments first.

"On the third day after landing on Armatura we found them. They'd made their final stand in the Forum, where the lords of the Evocatii had once brushed shoulders with the Governor-General's aides and adjutants responsible for liasing with the Legion units stationed in the city.

"The Twelfth had left no survivors. Cobalt-armoured corpses lay everywhere in various degrees of dismemberment and bloody ruin. The Evocatii command cadre was nowhere to be found; it wasn't until later we learned that the Seventeenth had taken the officers' corpses for dark purposes I still do not claim to understand. Or wish to. But this had been the Twelfth's fight; the Seventeenth, the survivors of another battle later told us, had had their own battle to wage elsewhere, and had only provided a handful of warriors to act as foil to the bloody-minded berserkers of the Twelfth. Angron's byblows had left one thing standing, in the ruin of the Forum, amidst the carnage of a generation of murdered Ultramarines. To this day, I still don't know why they left it there. Did they retreat? No. A laughable idea. They killed everything in that square that drew breath and lived to tell the tale. Fear? Don't make me laugh, brother. They're savages, whoresons, faithless mongrels of an inferior geneline, but never cowards. I don't know why they left it there. But there it stood.

"Macragge Invictus. The banner of the Evocatii, emblazoned with the oath of the warriors trained under their command, whose bodies now lay broken and butchered at our feet. Sergeant Coriolan of the Destroyers ripped it from its resting place, next to a fallen statue of an Imperial hero whose name I never learned. Macragge Invictus. The rallying cry meant to reach deep into the psyche of every Ultramarine, and remind him of his oath to the Legion, to the Primarch, to Macragge and fair Ultramar. Macragge the Unconquerable, in low Gothic. I don't think there was a man amongst us who wasn't moved by the sight of the standard aloft over the corpses of our brothers. It was a reminder to us that no matter how far we'd fallen in the eyes of the Primarch, in the eyes of the Legion, we were still Ultramarines. Their blood was our blood. Their oath was our oath. And as they'd died in the defense of Macragge the Indomitable, so would we bear their banner - and their memory - with us, and fulfil the oath they'd died to uphold.

"Macragge Invictus. Never forget that, brothers."

Generally not a big fan of the smurfs but you make them look good, are the destroyer logos transfers or stencils?

Transfers, mate. Straight from the FW set. :)

Even your objective markers have moving stories. Colour me jealous of your talents!

Cheers mate. If I could paint as cleanly as on your Shrikes I'd be very happy indeed - until then, it'll have to be ten tons of weathering on every model and fluff to compensate

And before I go to bed for the night, here's a photo dump of (among other things) my entry for March of the Legions: X Legion, the start of an Iron Hands unit on permanent secondment to the XIII Legion (Shattered Legions, anyone?) a WIP of my second Tactical squad, as yet unnamed, and last - but most definitely not least - my redone Praetor, Ludvic Augustus, with a stellar new helmet sculpted by my traitorous brother-in-arms Disease.

[...] Telamon to company command, left flank has collapsed and Auxilia survivors are pulling back through our fire zone to tertiary phase line. Tenth Legion support has been overrun. Requesting firing permission for area effect spread, allied units expendable. Khrave front runners have already reached our position, anticipate position untenable within thirty seconds without fire command.

[unintelligible]

Command, repeat request for firing permission, Auxilia survivors are incapable of clearing the fire zone. Enemy saturation is at optimum kill potential.

[unintelligible]

Copy last. Castigator, form up Rhomphaean line, calibrate for full deflagration, maximum area effect. On my mark.

[squad vox] Primarch's blood, that must be a whole hive out there!

Mercreion, silence. Four seconds.

[vox static]

Two seconds.

Mark.

[static, unintelligible, probable multiple weapons discharge? auditory disruption lasting 1m7s]

Command, Telamon. Fire zone cleared. Khrave vanguard in full retreat. Left flank is secure and we are holding ground. Divert Auxilia transports to another sector, there's nothing left for them here.

[squad vox, laughter] Terra, look at the corpses. That must be over a hundred confirmed out there.

[squad vox] The Khrave? Or the poor bastards who got in the way?

[laughter]

First Destroyers, and now choom-heads?

It certainly reads like someone might have gotten a bit over-zealous with the Volkites :D
Looks great, and can't wait for the Praetor, custom helmet is way cool.

Cheers lads and ladettes, great to have positive feedback. Hopefully the rate of updates in the future will be fairly consistent now I've got my light source worked out.

Love the fluff. Very fitting, and it paints a very good picture of your company. The dark gritty not so illustrious sons of Gulliman. Are you going to be doing and Suzerians?

Yes. Ten of them, but I have a plan for them. It would take a lot to get a Suzerain to willingly cast aside his position of honour and serve in a company of the damned like the Black One Hundred.

Ran out of likes .  Some nice up dates you are sure cranking them out .

Cheers dude. Doesn't hurt that I got most of this painting done over the Christmas break (with the exception of the Destroyers) ;)

Brother, "over-zealous" and "volkite" do not belong in the same sentence. ;) Thanks for the kind words. There's another ten-man squad of Tac supports with volkites coming, so this is just the start :P

Hello, I just joined the B&C and this is one of my favorite threads so far!   I think adding a bit of black into the mix with the typical Ultramarines blue/white color scheme really makes them interesting.  I like all the models you've done here, but the sergeant in the MKIV armor (with face mask breather) is certainly at the top of my list.  I may have to try a few Ultras myself at some point with black armor sections - it gives them an interesting dynamic.  The fluff you have been writing is also excellent.  Keep up the good work.
