This. This is already all kinds of amazing. The guts you had to carve up the carapace like that is most impressive and the whole idea is simply excellent.

I'll be watching this one extremely closely and shamelessly nicking every picture you see fit to post up! :laugh.:

I had all sorts of plans for press moulds etc. to help reduce the risk of ballsing it up but then the clippers and Knife came out and whoops, no turning back now.

Feel free, I hope I can inspire people in the same way the community has inspired me.

First of all, thanks a lot for the shout out in the opening post! :smile.:

I have been quietly lurking in the corners, but it's time to let you know that your progress so far is very promising, indeed! You've been far more corageous than me when it comes to reposing the Knight (and hacking apart the carapace, for that matter), but so far the risk seems to be paying off! The pose is looking excellent, and the GS work on the leg is coming along brilliantly! I love the similarities to the Bloodthirster design. More please! :smile.:

Thank you, without Tibbs or Your blogs this would never have happened. It was great to read how you tackled such a big model for the first time and it really helped me decided not only to do it but also that I could do it.

I should have some more pics coming later this week and while things slowed a little for Dread Tober painting up such a daemon infused beast is realy helping me in my own plans.

That spine is epic, massive kudos!! I am going to have to borrow that idea myself, I hope you don't mind :smile.: Love the pose too, very dynamic and Khornate. As for the spines, they look perfect - the Daemon within is forcing its way out - just grizzly :cool.:

Thank you, go ahead, in fact read on I'll link to the site I found it on. The dinos are easy to work with and come with a crackle matt paint all ready on so should paint easily enough. I've not tried plastic glue just yet as I'm bedding most of the bits used so far into greenstuff.

I have the back story in my head and after reading all the great fluff people are posting with their models soon as I have time to type it all up I'll be sharing extracts on here as I realy love how others are doing it. But the from that background I realy want to tell the story of the model, part of this will be how the Daemon is trying to break free from it's bonds imprisoned against its will.

This is looking so cool, can't wait to see more. Great use of the toy dinosaur as well. I'd be way too scared to try that lol

Following other who are doing this sort of thing for the first time has been great for me, now I've been in the hobby for over 20 years so I guess that helps, at the worst I'd have had to get a second Knight sooner than I intend, to press mould the carapace bits I needed for a repair though since I'm going for warped and possessed lots of gnarled extra hole filling wouldn't have been the end of the world.

I want to thank everyone for the great comments, and one of the reasons I'm posting stuff is because I think I've been pilfering ideas from the Net for years so It's time I gave something back. And since I found these Guys

med_gallery_88567_11374_494793.png

I think they make a great supply of bits for many chaos projects, so I would be mean to keep that to myself.

They came from a simple search for model Dinosaur Skeletons and that lead me to this.

At less than

So I've only been able to snatch small amounts of hobby time and with Dread Tober coming to a close I've been gently progressing the Hellbrute,

med_gallery_88567_11401_491583.png

At this point the Bone and horns have just been finished, and I've got the Flesh and Red bits to go.

med_gallery_88567_11401_427723.png

Since it was this model that made me want to have the spine on the Knight and then later Skrundle's Knight that showed me how cool it could look, It's a great chance to try out painting techniques on a smaller scale. I've got plans to use subtle glazes of Purple, Blue and Yellow to give bruised colourations, first I want to finish all the red pipes and vents bringing some up to a bright orange like my legionnaires.

Once that's done it'll be onto the technical paints for some blood and rust and lastly basing.

I really happy so far and feel it's coming together just need to find the time to finish it this weekend, then next week I can pick up the sculpting tools again.

I'm so close now it's crazy. Made a few errors painting the flesh and ended up having to practically repaint it twice. Since getting the recipe right, ready for the knight, was basically the whole point of this diversion at least I know what not to do next time.

med_gallery_88567_11401_102417.png

Not so clear on the front but I've had a good play with some washes and I think it's come out a treat.

med_gallery_88567_11401_624120.png

Just technical paints to go and finishing up the base so maybe tomorrow night finish. More likely Tuesday.

Thanks for all the words of encouragement and once I'm in front of a pc instead of my phone I'll answer everyone but I must go to bed now.

¨that helps some of my future plans to redo the Hell-Turkey into something truly Chaotic, and at that price, you can't really say you can't afford it, so come friday, I'll order up a batch myself :tongue.:

go for it. please let us know how you get on.

Looks like its coming along really nice.

Thank you, crazy close on the brute now, then back to the knight. depending on waiting for things to dry I may do some more sculpting tonight.

Looking good so far dude!

Thanks, More actual progress soon. I've got a few photos of the shoulder armour to share soon too.

So I've not quite finished the hellbrute yet so no new work done this week.

Just resized and sorted a couple more pics though.

This time it's the first shoulder pad.

In a shameless rip of a knight KrautScientist talked about in his post on Dark Future Gaming, I wanted to have lost of skulls behind some of the Warshrine parts Troy pulled of a great effect (as seen here).

Initially I planned on using lots of plastic skulls, Wargames Factory's Skelington warriors box was brought for the purpose.

Then GW Released the skull fort of many skulls, full of bits I eagerly picked up the Overlord bastion, sadly the chinacast plastic is to thick and bulky to bother with recovering detail to use but I do like me some instant mould.

After a bit of playing around I came up with this.

med_gallery_88567_11374_422917.png

Though the details have softened a bit I have some plans to cover the gaps and it should make a great backing for the Warshine railing.

Once I had the skulls on the next step was to warp the very iconic shape of the shoulder pad.

med_gallery_88567_11374_255049.png

The intention is to have flayed flesh stretched across the pad, using the hooks to hold it in place.

I just need to work out how best to sculpt it, depending on how it comes out I may save the warshrine part of the other side.

The being sat in his throne, beyond human yet not far enough. The seven blessed, staring down at the chronometer, it was an auspicious day, eight hundred and eighty eight years marked the dial. Eight hundred and eighty eight long years since the seventh blessing, twice that since the sixth and an eternity since the first. What came Before that? Only flickers of memory, a red planet, betrayal and the discordant music.

Surround by enemies, traitors? No, friends? Surrounded and the music just on the edge of hearing, comrades in blue armour. No! Not friends, traitors to the Fabricator-General the music tells him so. One of the blue ones is trying to talk but why, why would the enemy talk? Hold his position? The enemy can’t persuade him. Lock down his comms? No he must hear the music it talks to him, tells the truth, silence traitors. He moves towards the talking one. Close formation so close, his fist racing towards the skull faceplate. Chaos erupts, rents in blue armour and the buzzing of chainswords. Fist and blade flying, smoke and ruin, surrounded on all sides, yet so close they can’t prevent their fate. The war spirit of the machine screaming in rage and pain as the discordant music rips through its cognitive circuits. Freedom, beautiful freedom, long held shackles of control broken in a moment’s action.

Time passes and the moment ends surrounded by wreckage, the fallen foes torn to pieces the one being left standing. Near silence fills the ruined hall, just the sound of cooling metal and the drips as fluids leak from ruptured lines. Yet there is something else a buzzing on the edge of consciousness the music faint now yet insistent.

One last thing to do, open the city gates.

The survivor commands his stead forward, Chainblade roaring, power field crackling around the fist and Warhorn blazing. If this was the enemy how come he was inside the gates? No! Irrelevant, the music grows louder, sounds forming; messages and visions of glory besiege his mind.

Sparks fly and the blade screams, a fist pounding against the bar keeping the gate closed. With a boom of thunder the fist’s power field releases its energy for the last time, the steed is shaken and the bar cracks, splits and shatters.

Pushing forward, the gates open, the music turns from a buzz to a crescendo as the lone survivor loyal to the Fabricator welcomes those beyond the gate, his first true brothers and sisters. Sense from the music, understanding and two words whose meaning seems insignificant filters back from a time unremembered,

“scrap code”

So I'm quite excited as I just finished the hellbrute. Phone is low on battery and a bit late for setting up a photo shoot. Still I managed a quick snapshot with more to come tomorrow.

med_gallery_88567_11401_544427.png

I'll start a plot in the hall of honour once I've got a bunch of better pictures.

Un till then good night b&c.

So the Hellbrute is complete and I've posted a showcase in the hall of honour

But here he is along with the rest of my finished Black legion, not much so far as I'm repainting my old models. While I can field a few thousand points I only fixed my painting recipie last year after nearly 20 years of faffing about.

med_gallery_88567_11401_562775.png

Managed to crack the green stuff out last night so more Knight Pics soon.

Impressive work, but considering dramatic pose and the weight of your additions (the skulls on the pauldrons, the dinosaur spine, the spikes), I'm concerned whether or not the right leg can avoid breaking like a twig, and if the Knight can remain upright. Maybe you can add something on the left side, to support the weight- a brick wall the Knight is about to kick over? A Leman Russ tank whose turret the Knight just crushed with its Thunderstrike gauntlet?

Fortunately green stuff isn't that heavy and the leg seems nice and solid, oldschoolsoviet suggested using a screw up through the base and into the ankle and lower leg so that should help, I've planted the foot solidly to so there is a large surface area to glue as well.

The Helbrute is looking excellent, mate! And I can hardly wait for a new update regarding the Knight!

Well you asked so nicely.

First up inspired by the belgian one's ageing on the Walking Chapel using a dremel, I had a play and have gently carved the plastic back around the daemon flesh.

This gives me a transition point between the two textures, once that was done I've added a thin layer of greenstuff for the flesh, with rents in showing the textured muscle below.

med_gallery_88567_11374_763974.png

Next up is the carapace, I've carved the shell back a bit to give it a better edge and begun adding fleshy muscle texture.

med_gallery_88567_11374_342480.png

Last night I begun to add the skin around the front, next up is to add skin around the edge of the spine itself as I'm layering it up to get a ragged tattered look.

Won't manage it tonight as I'm still at work but hopefully over the weekend.

Thank you all, got stuck working till ten last night so no new progress but I wrote up a bit of fluff for the hellbrute so I'll leave it here as it has some relevance to the Knight's back story.

In the ranks of the Black Legion no fate is considered worse than that of the Mortis Juramentus, those that have failed the despoiler above and beyond that of the Oath Broke, champions and lords who are held responsible for the failures of their missions will find their surviving men condemned to the oath broken, but the fate of the leader is far darker, dragged off the the chambers of the Dark Mechanicum where the sickly wet sarcophagus of a hellbrute awaits.
Such is the ire reserved by the Despoiler for these unfortunates their fate transcends death itself, Dark magics and daemonic pacts are woven into the shell of these Hellbrutes, reserved specially for the biggest failures who's very soul is captured by the machine and bound within.

Such is the nature of the binding that only total annihilation ends the torture of the one trapped within, black rituals performed on the smallest fragment of a hellbrute drags the soul screaming back into reality to be placed once more into the shell of a new machine. Growing from the one fragment, broken and raving the body of the trapped victim is once more trapped within the shell of his unholy prison.

All records of the former champion are expunged and their names are forbidden, with the mutation and disfigurement brought on by their transformation no one could identify the pilot even if they wanted to, and anyone attempting to risks the same fate. Each hellbrute is given a new designation taken from myth and legend.

The Hellbrute designated Horkos is rumoured to hold the body of a former lord of Khorn. Whispers of his downfall talk of a forgotten crusade of blood, ending with a failed siege when infighting tore his forces apart. A failure to control his own forces lead to a fighting retreat as forces of the corpse emperor arrived to reinforce the defenders.

Managed another layer on the flesh on one side, about done now for that side and it'll be skin next.

med_gallery_88567_11374_388557.png

Assuming I ever get out of work, 12 and 1/2 hour and counting today. If the rest of the week is like this I'll be getting grumpy, though next week will be worse for a couple of days.

Edited by Mechanist

so another incremental advance, work has been causing havoc with evenings and then last night a night in the house alone (as far as awake adults was concerned) was scuppered by screaming 6 month old, when I got the little fella to sleep it was strapped to my front in a baby harness and so no sculpting for me. John Carter was on netflix and despite being a flop I was interested to see it and thoroughly enjoyed it before heading back to work for another 4 hours once my wife got home.

However this big deadline is over and I intend to take it a little easier for a couple of weeks, starting with leaving a little early today. Then some luck with eldest falling asleep before 7 I dug the greenstuff out of the freezer to see how it had survived being in there a week longer than intended.

med_gallery_88567_11374_755390.png

Just about workable it's allowed me to roll out a layer of skin and apply it along the edge of the rent in the carapace, tomorrow I have a plan to use my dremel to carve up the edge and make it a little more ragged. Then a quick dab of liquid greenstuff to cover any dodgy bits and that'll be this stage done.

after that it's the other side and the join in the spine, some chaos Icons and symbols of binding and finally some chain, maybe a cople of extra details as I see fit once it all comes together.

so fingers crossed for tomorrow.

So I've not had chance to do any more on the Knight itself but I've just put an order in for this

http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/NTY3WDU2Nw==/z/I6YAAOxyM89Sb8oA/$T2eC16RHJFsFFR1Vkv4tBSb8n+)P-Q~~60_1.JPG

I reckon 10 meters should be enough.

and some of these

http://thumbs.ebaystatic.com/images/g/61AAAOSwZd1VcWpJ/s-l225.jpg

So once I've got this Specialist Games Manager application finished I can go to bed a dream about chaining up daemons into big stompy walkers.
