Apologist- Thanks man! Do it! Add some Iron Tenth to your collection!

Captainblow- Thanks man! your Leviathan looks fantastic, that red is gorgeous

Legio Draconis- Thank you, brutal is the best compliment I could receive!

Xin Ceithan- Thanks bud, I am pretty proud of it haha

I have a cataphractii mock up for you Apologist! Unfortunately my last cataphractii project (Varen) was rather intense and included sawing a torso in half and widening it with heat. Consequently I have been looking for an easier method of true scaling cataphractii and although it isn’t terribly less involved I have discovered that sculpting a raised torso on top of an existing one achieves a pretty good effect.

Bare in mind this is a pretty early wip and is quite rough around the edges. He is missing some stuff like his right thigh plate and detailing on his chest. I'm planning on lengthening his arms a bit as well, his hands don't quite reach the mid thigh line. Also he won’t be wielding a bolter and an axe, I am planning on outfitting him with a combi-bolter an a fist but I haven’t bought the cataphractii weapon pack yet:

Thanks for looking everyone! Questions and comments are always welcome.

Alright ladies and gents, I will be in Nottingham tomorrow and I am incredibly excited about visiting warhammet world! This is my first time in the UK (I'm from California) and I am absolutely loving it! I'm planning on picking up some Gorgons and dominators (to make into my version of Castellax, I'm not a huge fan of the FW model) so that is where my project is heading next. If anyone is in the area and wants to hit me up please feel free to message me!

The Shattered Tenth: The Survivors of Istvaan V

gallery_84811_11476_802320.jpg

Ok ladies and gentlemen, we all know that the Heresy Train has no brakes and now I have purchased a one way ticket on this crazy ride.

This thread will be dedicated to my true scale Iron Hands set after the events of Istvaan V. All of the members of this army will be survivors of the dropsite massacre. In this endeavor I want to capitalize on the massacre’s effect on the legion. Through my efforts I want to convey that these broken warriors are more human and less withdrawn than most Iron Hands and fight with fury instead of cold calculations. They saw their father die and have abandoned the ideals of the Great Crusade to adopt a mantra of revenge and hatred. They are suspicious of anyone hasn’t lost as much as they have and reject the aid of those who weren’t present in the murder fields of Istvaan V.

Having themselves assumed the shame and role normally reserved for the Medusan Immortals, I will refer to this ragtag group of survivors as The Immortals from here on out.

They are led in spirit by Varan Rakor, a furious Morlock who survived Ferrus’ vanguard by being buried in the wreckage of a spartan tank and later dragged to safety:

gallery_84811_11476_1196995.jpg

But in practice by Adox Ra, a proficient strategist who is notorious for his cynicism and dwindling faith in the ideals of the Emperor (I’m still figuring out Ra, so no wip yet).

Varan’s base was important to me because I wanted to show that although he was once a proud ambassador of the Imperial truth, he has abandoned this seemingly noble pursuit to instead follow his hatred. To represent this I made him literally vaulting over a broken statue, a visual portrayal of the beauty he once fought for:

gallery_84811_11476_1352697.jpg

He was crazy difficult to create and at one point I actually widened his torso with paperclips and a hairdryer. If there is any demand for it I’ll post the whole process!

Here are some fun pictures of the first four of my ten man veteran squad (running pride of the legion with double heavy flamers to burn that weak flesh of traitors!). I am working on the sergeant currently but he has no arms so no wip yet haha. Also I have a contemptor dready in the works that I am very excited about! This whole project has been really fun so far and I am almost finished with my paint test using the Forgeworld color scheme.

Thanks for looking Questions and Comments are Welcome!

Damn....how the f.... Did i miss this thread? Your conversions are exeptional. Wants me to make my own truscale. Your morlock...damn...so much fury, so much rage. Would be an awesome primarch. How big is he compared to a primarch? Wow...absoluyely stunning.

Thanks MikhalLeNoir! Do it, fall into the truescale fanaticism! He is actually a little bit taller than Angron, not sure how he compares to the others though.

Update Time!

I had an absolute blast in England, everyone was so nice and Warhammer World was amazing! I was elated the entire day and came back to the states with an Atrapos, Domitar, and Spartan! I also visited the Warhammer store in Edinburgh and had a great time chatting with the awesome staff. I am really liking the Domitar kit so far and I have begun preparing the base for the Atrapos. I’ve been working on the fluff for House Denatros, of which the Atrapos will be a member, and I’ll share that here in a bit when I get some work done on the model. The Cataphractii I was working on before my trip is essentially done save for some clean up work:

Nifty shoulder stuff:

He’s in the same scale as Varen, so he is pretty huge

When I first saw John Blanche’s rendition of The Eternity Gate in the rulebook from Battle For Macragge I fell in love with the grim darkness. Since then, nearly ten years have passed and his artwork has infested my imagination and pushed me to look for the surreal in daily life. Here is a wip of my newest model inspired by the craziness that is his art:

Also I have an offering for ETL V:

Once I finish these I’ll post a full thing on their fluff. The knight is piloted by Tallous Danedron of House Denatros:

I’ve been painting more Iron Hands, I’ll post them soon. Thanks for visiting! Questions and comments are always welcome!

Awesome work, the Atrapos and pilot look great!

Thanks! I am planning on painting the Atrapos a derivation of the Malinax scheme.

Wow!

I need more pics of that blanche Mechanicum character :smile.:

Knight looks good with the damage, and the pilot is really well executed.

I am pretty excited about this guy! His name is Ahab and he is the first in Tallous' retinue, I am planning on adding some guards, a pilot, and a navigator later. They have some pretty cool fluff that I'll devote a post to when I finish Tallous' knight.

I am totally at a loss for the color of his robes however, Suggestions would be much appreciated!

His knight better drive him close, so he can hit things with his sword.

That would be amazing hahaha unfortunately it's just a ceremonial sword.

Inspiring work

Thank you!

Loving the Knight.

Thanks, me too!

The new Cataphractii is great, and that Blanche-inspired Tech Priest is pure awesome! :biggrin.:

Thanks man! Your batrep with the Apologist was awesome

I have finished painting the armor on five new vets and the dready (seven coats of paint to get that inviolate scheme, god it can take forever with the slow drying tamiya paint) and the Immortals will be next once I finish the vet detail work.

Thanks for stopping by! Questions and comments are always welcome!

Just to further echo the compliments, these look fantastic. One of my favourite bits of this project is the tattered fabrics on the banners and so forth, as they're just such a great contrast with the solidity of the armour. Speaking of tattered fabrics, any movement on Adox Ra?

SWEET!!! love the volkite armed immortals!!! So nice man...Your GS armor plates are fantastic and proportional!!

Excellent work throughout man.

Your attention to detail is crazy.

Avete vos!

Amazing Immortals. I really dig their bulked up armour.

Now that is a shield wall! Those Immortals are amazing. Extra points for choom!

Choommortals are best Immortals!

Thanks guys! I am quite pleased with how they turned out!

Thanks man! I love them too, so much so that I have to consciously restrain myself from putting banners and fabric on everything haha! I actually made Ra a bit taller but other than that nothing much. I rather enjoy what he brings to my force thematically so I am waiting for some final inspiration before I complete his build. If anyone has ideas for him I would love to hear it. I have however been working on his castellax and will be posting those here shortly!

New Stuff:

http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/gallery/image/185209-img-8667/'>gallery_84811_11476_460672.jpg

The guy on the right doesn’t have a head yet (I had a last minute change of heart on the head I was planning to use and I’m painting up a mkII now) and there are some random things that need touch up but other than that this is my first complete squad I have ever painted!

http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/gallery/image/185210-img-8668/'>gallery_84811_11476_1809745.jpg

There is some backstory I would like to get down about this squad but I am currently in a bit of a writing slump as a result of writing dozens of med school application essays, so that won't be for some time. The immortals and atropos are next on my painting list and I'm still plugging away on the true scale cataphractii.

Thanks for dropping in everyone, questions and comments are always welcome!

Is that one chainsword-wielding dude melting? Reminds me a bit of the T-1000 and that's never a bad thing. The marine in the middle of the first pic seems to have kinda short legs, otherwise they look great. They got a brutal and determined vibe going, completely entrenched in battle, which fits the legion nicely.
