SW1's Wolves

SW1

I battled on with the mk3 chests and plastic plasma cannons. They're now glued together and I'll cram a bit of gs into the gaps tomorrow. I'll also need to fix up the legs with gs as well.

The playing around with SW armour and the B@C stuff didn't happen as I forgot to include the SW chests/legs in the boxes.

However I did include some heads, the bare SW heads seem just a tad bigger than I was expecting which was a surprise. I'm possibly thinking of using the plastic wolf helmets for characters? Maybe a little cheesy though.

My other B@C chaplain is likely to have a head swap and then become a Wolf Priest. I'm also wanting to source some more of the plastic jump packs from the Sanguinary Guard kit to use.

So I've done plenty of playing around with the bits an I reckon I can marry the contense of the 2 B@C boxes and get a decent looking 30k/40k force going.

The Rune Priest conversion doesn't work with a wolf head helmet. But give him a bare head and it looks spiffing. :D

The chaplain conversion will probably end up with the wolfs head helmet as it look better on him.

Can't wait to bulk out the GH's with models converted up from the older marks of armour. I'm tempted to try flogging some of the metals and seeing if I can raise up enough funds for another B@C box.

I'm having a re-thinking of my army direction and trying to get the right mix of models so that I can reorganise them into 30k units if I want.

So if I do say 10x 5 man GH units with 3 bolters in each plus a special and a fist/sword guy then I can use the bolter guys to make either a 20 + 10 man bolter squad or 3x 10 man squads. The 10 plasma guns into a 10 man squad or 2x 5 man squads. The fists/swords I'm not 100% sure of a porting option into the 30k setting. So I may have to accept some models not being ported. Long Fangs just drop the pack leader and they're heavy support squads.

I'm currently running out of hobby space as the prepped models mount up. Last year I found Morrisons in the UK sold big trays of strawberries for £3 that were in a stackable mdf tray and got a fair few saving the trays. I've found they're back again this year!!! It's £3.42 for a tray which I'd probably pay for the stackable tray system by itself and as a bonus there's almost a kg of strawb's in each one as well. Lol ... I can see us eating a lot of strawberries over the next month or two.

Hmmm ... Really trying to get organised this year before the ETL starts.

Lol ... They're too tastey to go into jam!!! With 3 kids a tray of strawb's goes in a single sitting.

Hobbywise I'm going to try getting the rest of the characters built before work this afternoon. Would be good to have atleast all of them prepped and ready to go by Friday incase Semper springs a surprise 1st of May start date on us.

I've had a play around with a test model and the lighter HH style grey. Just doesn't do it for me so back to working out which dark grey combination will work for me. Think I will adopt a uniform dark grey with red wolf head rather than iron colour?

Lol ... I can see te ETL starting and me still being undecided!!!

Looking at the way I differentiate between different model types I've decided I'll do this with backpacks. Only named characters and Wolf Lords will have the wolf backpacks. I'm thinking maybe the backpack with a wolf skull will be for other characters (Wolf Priests, Rune Priests and Wolf Guard Battle Leaders). Models in TDA I'm still getting my head around.

The rest of the PA models will be differentiated by shoulder pads. Really glad I did a lot of sorting of the bits before I started building stuff!!! :D

Lol ... I also need to eat more strawberries as the trays I already have are getting full of prepped models.

There will be a undercoat spray session in the near future and then pics will be taken. :tu:

Last night before bed I got the airbrush out and tinkered with it. Turns out I over tightened a bit and it sheared last time I cleaned it. Good job I've got a cheap spare brush with similar internal workings. So I canablised the rubbish one for parts. They've got the same needles the internal cap bit which I broke was thankfully the same size!!! Really need to look at getting a better made one.

Once fixed I sprayed all the wolf priests black plus cypher and a couple of psyber ravens. I've now got ...

Ulrik

2 with Runic Armour and plasma pistol (one converted Ulrik and one converted Chaplin from B@C)

1 with jump pack (converted from Ulrik)

2 in TDA

I think eventually I'll want one on a bike but that's a future project. I doubt I will be able to do this but I really like the single rather than double vent jump packs. I'm thinking of tryin to source enough to have my characters and WG to have them. Keeping the double ones for the blood claws. I have enough in the bits box to mount the characters planned with them only.

Well the 7 models I prepped last night come in at a fairly nice 1105 points. I'm pretty confident with painting black though my technique does take quite a while (highlighted grey knocked back to black with multiple black washes) so getting these out of the way first, time management wise is a good idea. As I'll have plenty of time waiting for washes to dry I'll also do a few other models but with grey armour so I can work out how I'm doing my grey, probably a 5 man BC pack? Think I want to have my grey sorted before painting any characters in grey. The aims to finish this army not have to strip it again. :)

So here's who my first vow is shaping up:

Lord Cypher - 190 points

Wolf Priest - Runic Armour, Plasma Pistol, Digital Weapons, Jump Pack - 170 points

Wolf Priest - Runic Armour, Plasma Pistol, Digital Weapons - 155 points

Wolf Priest - Runic Armour, Plasma Pistol, Digital Weapons - 155 points

Wolf Priest - TDA, Digital Weapons - 150 points

Wolf Priest - TDA, Digital Weapons - 150 points

Ulrik - 145 points

Blood Claws Pack - 5 man (power fist, flamer, plasma pistol) including a Wolf Guard (plasma pistol, frost sword) - 150 points

So work today found me finally getting around to assembling all the spare chests from the many SW kits I've gone through. Started gluing them to the legs from the B@C kit. It seems like the B@C kit has slightly shorter legs than the normal SW kit so I had to bend the animal skin backs up to not be lower than the feet of the models.

I'm thinking of having all the SW chests going onto the mk4 legs and use those for models which won't cover the chests. Then use the SW legs and mk4 chests for models with bolters across their chests. Not sure if I will use the mk4 which don't get mixed up with the SW bits yet for the SW project. Guess time will be the biggest factor. I also need to finish off gluing arms to the metal SW's I have. Lol ... I also need to get a grip on how many models I make.

I'm actually really enjoying assembling plastic models over metals. Having a model stand up on it's own to check a pose is amazing. Metal models just tip over and superglue is a pain in the arse in comparison to plastic glue. It's also going to be so much easier to drill the feet for pinning.

I'm likely to come out with 80ish PA models which I will need to be merged/mixed into the other models awaiting painting. I'm also wanting to assemble as many of the TDA kits as possible. The other benefit will be painting the heads separately. Bare heads look great but I can imagine painting that many to be a right pain.

Really looking forward to getting things painted now. Roll on the 15th so I can vow and then sit on my hands until the 17th when I can start painting as I'm working all weekend. Work don't mind trimming plastic kits but won't let me paint at the desk. :(

The axe is a swap between the axe heads of that model and the bottom pic. It's the one from the Sanguinary Guard kit I used the arms for the bottom pic Rune Priest.

I just reshaped the bottom and took the top bit off. It's my take on Black Death. The shaft is the normal axe one with the head removed. The Rune Priest in the bottom pic has the axe head replaced with it.

Just had a realisation that I had no actual plan to work to and may end up with a load of unusable units if I rust randomly glue stuff together. So I've decided I need to work out what I want to eventually have. So I'm thinking along the lines of ...

8x 10 man Grey Hunter Packs

3x 15 man Blood Claw Packs

2x 10 man Skyclaws Packs

8x 6 man Long Fang Packs

I also want the ability to swap models out for alternate loads so there will need to be additional models. There's no way this lot will get completed in this ETL but once numbers are worked out I can cherry pick for max points. Lol ... The hope is with just a few models to finish for each unit I'll keep motivated in finishing them within a year.

Cheers moric, I've got to paint them yet which is going to be the biggest challenge. The aim is to do it in a year with the ETL being a really big kickstart to the painting project.

Started to number crunch and it's starting to look like a bigger project than I was thinking originally.

Grey Hunters

Each pack I want to be able to choose from:

Power Fist

Power Sword/Axe

Plasma Pistol

2 Plasma Guns

1 Meltagun

6.5 Bolters

That will give me a total number of 12.5 models per pack which over 8 packs is 100 models. If I'm looking to maximise points I could look at attaching up to 25 Wolf Guard.

Blood Claws

Each pack I want to be able to choose from:

Power Fist

Power Sword/Axe

Plasma Pistol

2 Flamers

2 Meltagun

11 Blood Claws

That will give me a total number of 18 models per pack which over 3 packs is 54 models. If I'm looking to maximise points I could look at attaching up to 13 Wolf Guard.

Skyclaws

Each pack I want to be able to choose from:

Power Fist

Power Sword/Axe

Plasma Pistol

2 Flamers

2 Meltagun

6.5 Skyclaws

That will give me a total number of 13.5 models per pack which over 2 packs is 27 models. If I'm looking to maximise points I could look at attaching up to 6 Wolf Guard.

Had a rather stressful day which was meant to have been started off with drilling holes into the feet of my first vow models (work of but a few minutes). Instead I've been looking for my blasted pin vice on and off all day. It's now been finally found so I can crack on with the final bit of my prep.

I have no idea why but I'm ALWAYS misplacing the pin vice. It's always right in front of me but my brain hates me or my station is too messy.

Yeah ... I know exactly what you mean. What was worse is I found the spare pin drill (yes I loose it enough to have a back up) and couldn't find the box of spare bits. Those have yet to turn up.

I'm trying to decide if my ETL shenanigans will be added to this thread or if I should start afresh?
