Vairocanum
Another vote for the Scythes! Some really awesome models you've posted, love the knife guy the most! That chaplain is also brilliant and love the richness of color in his robes. Definitely looking forward to seeing more!
Dagoth Ur
Well, thanks for the feedback everybody! Without much waffling around, I give you the first few WiPs of my Scythes of the Emperor:http://i.imgur.com/1iAto3F.jpg?1http://i.imgur.com/zk8ij3q.jpg?1http://i.imgur.com/fJy5iWT.jpg?1http://i.imgur.com/1YOpeTa.jpg?1 As you can see, I've chosen to go with green shoulder trim (Fourth Company), as per the one small snippet about chapters reinforced with primaris marines, the Scythes have gotten some major reinforcement. Also, company colour seems to be indicated by the colour of the chest eagle. However, some marks of armour do not have a chest eagle (Such as mark IV, III, II and the deathwatch Mk VIII). Thus, I've decided to also add the typical trim-colour for the company. Besides, green just looks snazzy with yellow ;) I've started working on the Sternguard unit, the contemptor, a chaplain dreadnought and a Primaris Captain. Suffice to say, there'll be a lot of yellow and black in the future! I hope you like this small little update, have a nice day! C&C is, as always, very welcome. bluntblade, Vairocanum, BrotherJim and 2 others 5 Back to top
Vairocanum
Oh man those scythes are looking brilliant, I think the green works nicely with the models. Always nice to see more dreadnoughts from you (dreadnought POV stories are awesome). Will you be converting the Primaris Captain or using the stock model? I'm thinking of getting one and would love to see what you'd make with it.
Replica
Looking good! Love the dirty, battle-hardened feel of the armour!
Dagoth Ur
Those who survived Sotha never burned, despite what the poets across the Segmentum might tell you Sotha suffocated beneath masses of crawling, insectoid flesh Sotha was drained of its very lifeblood by slavering maws Sotha was devoured We will never forget We will never forgive Let this be the creed of the scythehttp://i.imgur.com/fHJEpLX.jpg?1 I was there when Sotha fell, when damnation came upon us. I was there when Lord Guillaume returned, when salvation came. When I believed my chapter lost, not to the Tyranids but to the hatred fostered by so many of my Sothan brethren, our primarch returned and brought with him the gift of survival. What was a little less than two companies quickly grew to almost a full chapter again. Even our cousins came to our aid, shared with us relics of yore to help us weather the loss of our own history. Where we once sported barely three full squads of terminator armour, we quickly were able to outfit most of our first company again. The gifts ranged from freshly manufactured armour and weaponry to valuable relics which we vowed to protect until the day Sol itself burned out. My own plate, a full suit of functional mark IV armour forged during the Great Crusade, was gifted to me by a veteran of the White Consuls, despite his chapter facing strife too. I swore I would never forget this kindness; i swore I would not allow the rift between Sothans and non-Sothans to persist, at least not in my squad. This we owed to cousins and father; we would not fail. http://i.imgur.com/j9adj1F.jpg?1 The codex is in flux, more so than it ever was. barely a hundred and fifty astartes of the Emperor's Scythe have lived before the fall of Sotha, thus most of our chapter needs guidance. There is no sergeant to whom a newly inducted battle brother can look for wisdom; how could there be when both were of the same age? Thus we adopted one of the practices common amongst the Dark Angels and their successors; we distributed our veterans amongst the companies in order to teach, in order to ensure that we not only survived, but thrived. So it came that veteran-squad Vergil, my own squad, was assigned to the freshly reformed fourth company. With pride in our hearts we daubed our bolter cases and pauldron trims in the emerald green of Sotha's fields. It was us who greeted the new battle-brothers; primaris and non-primaris alike. They came from a myriad of worlds, spoke as many tongues and bore as many different names. They all became one, they all became His Scythes. http://i.imgur.com/LOFZMV0.jpg?1 I remembered our old tales, I knew of our legends. It was I who aided both the Librarium and the Chaplains in writing down the nearly lost legacy of Sotha. A chapter cannot live without its culture, its soul. Who would the Ultramarines be without their thirteen chants of Heraclion? Who would the Salamanders be without the grand branding? Nothing. Grey-souled beings made only to wage war. Only through our chapter's soul can we return to humanity after becoming astartes. Otherwise we are only superior servitors. Many who see our emblem, the crossed scythes of the Sothan agri-farmers, only see a symbolic tool of death. The scythe that fells the enemy. The symbol of Death. Yet the scythe is as much a tool of life as of death. It reaps the life of those that threaten our people, as much as it reaps the corn that feeds them. Such is the essence of the Scythes of the Emperor; we shelter the people of the Imperium as much as we vanquish those that would threaten them. http://i.imgur.com/CNO2xb9.jpg?1 There are many tales to tell of my chapter, many heroes whose names are spoken across the whole breadth of the Imperium. This shall be an account of two chapters; one that died at Sotha, the other that was born of its ashes. My name is Naht, veteran sergeant of squad Vergil, a sothan veteran of nearly four and a half centuries of age. Ave Dominus Imperator ----------------- Well, first Veteran is finished :) I've taken quite some liberties with the fluff, but that is fine by me as I collect the Scythes largely for their scheme and for the interesting dualism of sothans and non sothans. Anyways, here are some more WiPs: http://i.imgur.com/1KXeW4c.jpg?1 The contemptor is nearly done, just need to do the fist-casings, do the eye-lenses and redo the base. http://i.imgur.com/1izAfu4.jpg?1 Here is the start of my Primaris Captain. The model is mostly stock, except for the right arm, which comes from a primaris leutnant. @Vairocanum: As you can see the model is mostly un-converted. The reason for this is that I do not really have that many parts to play with. Regular arms somehow looked weird and terminator arms were too thick, as the rest of the primaris seems too lanky then. Thanks for the kind words :) @Replica: Thanks mate! :) Hope you liked todays update. Have a nice day! C&C is, as always, very welcome and appreciated! Vairocanum
The veteran looks great, was interesting to read how humble Naht was even though he is a veteran. It's cool to see how different your models start out from the WIP pictures, looking forward to seeing the contemptor completed!
Dagoth Ur
Manybornhttp://i.imgur.com/KwKxGy1.jpg?1 -------------------------------- Alright, after a short break due to real world duties, I am back with a load of different stuff for my various threads (And a heaping pile of cash set aside for teh comming nurgle release). Above you have my Alpha Legion Praetor Lazav, whose person some might remember from my unification era thread (Which will also get an update in teh comming weeks, seeing as I have had the time to sit down and have a think or two about it). He is just a generic Praetor in Cataphracti armour, volkite charged and paragon blade. I had the Huron Claw in my bitz box for ages but have now finally found a use for it :) Pretty happy with him, even if he might seem a tad unconventional for the Alpha Legion (But then again, what is ;) ) @Vairocanum: Thanks mate :) The idea to make Naht a more humble Scythe actually came after rereading that one Short Story where a group of scouts is accompanied by a sothan Space Marine as a Reclamation team, specifically the Space Marine's discontent with the way the chapter was led. I aimed for a bit of a polar opposite on that one :) That is all for today, work on the scythes continues and two more veterans are nearly finished! Hope you like the small preview and have a nice day :) Brother Aiwass, deathspectersgt7, Dosjetka and 6 others 9 Back to top
Vairocanum
My favorite model out of all the updates! definitely looking forward to seeing this guy painted up! The Huron Claw works very well with the model!
sockwithaticket
That Scythes Contemptor is the shizz, looks properly ancient. Such a shame those claws are now OOP, they look really heavy duty; whatever's on the receiving end will be a mess.Certainly intrigued by the new model. Dagoth Ur
@Vairocanum: His armour is actually completely done as of today, only need to do the skin, the cloth and decorative chainmail :) @sockwithaticket: Glad you like him my friend, but I think you are mistaken ;) The claws are still available! https://www.forgeworld.co.uk/en-DE/Dreadfire-Close-Combat-Arm-Left-Arm https://www.forgeworld.co.uk/en-DE/Dreadfire-Close-Combat-Arm-Right-Arm Today I have a rather small update on something completely new; Sisters of Silence!http://i.imgur.com/HecuhxD.jpg?1http://i.imgur.com/aM7SZBL.jpg?1 The armour itself is more or less done (Minus the varnish that is), I still have to shade the red cloth and do a bit of freehand, hair and skin, but that is it :) I dont know how visible it is on the picture, but the armour is simple black, edged with a very pale gold and weathered with silver chipping. I'm going for a very sinister, baroque look. I think I'll do the skin in a very pale, sicklish, almost wet-ish style and use the small, black aquila transfers from Dark Imperium to put on the front. If everything goes according to plan, you'll soon see the Alpha Legion praetor and maybe, just maybe, some heavy tanks ;) Hope you enjoy this small update, have a nice day! Vairocanum
The sister is looking great! Most sisters I've seen are all shiny and pristine, so it's cool seeing them done in your signature weathered style! Looking forward to seeing it completed! Inquisitor Engel
Two deceptively difficult colours to paint. ZOMG man, these looks beautiful.
Dagoth Ur
@Vairocanum: Thanks mate, glad you like her! To be quite honest, I was very unsure about the paintscheme, but a few dabs of silver and a thing wash of nuln oil made me love it! There'll certainly be more of that :) @Inquisitor Engel: You'd actually be amazed at how easy the scheme is. The gold is Retributor Armor, drybrushed with a 1:1 mix of Retributor Armor and Runefang steel, then washed with a 1:1 mix of Nuln oil and Agrax Earthshade. The black is just abaddon black with a few edge highlights of the 1:1 Gold and Silver mix to emulate decorations. Sponge on some runefang steel and wash with 1:4 mix of Nuln oil and Lahmian Medium. Glad you like it :) The Alpha Legion praetor is slowly comming to a finish; the armor is completely finished. Next comes the skin, then I'll do the cape and leather. Take a look:http://i.imgur.com/us9Ju8j.jpg?1 The Moldline on the tank only appeared after washing, but I dont think I'll go back to remove it; doesn't bother me that much. http://i.imgur.com/FRZ6d2E.jpg?1 A drama shot ;) http://i.imgur.com/SD1K4rA.jpg?1 A bit fuzzy topview, my apologies, but here you can see the hydra and XX transfer. Hope you like the quick WiP. If you have any suggestions to this praetor or anything else you'd like to see, I'd be happy to hear :) Luna707, sockwithaticket, One-eye and 8 others 11 Back to top

Naryn
I've been meaning to ask, where's the chest aquila on the captain from? I really like the look of it but I can't find it on any primaris sprues.
Nomus Sardauk
I've been meaning to ask, where's the chest aquila on the captain from? I really like the look of it but I can't find it on any primaris sprues. It's from one of the Sternguard Veteran chest pieces, it looks like he cut it off the front breastplate and shaped it to fit the Primaris one. Vairocanum
Wow that praetor was already cool before, but that paint job really brings it to another level. Will you be putting decals on the cape as well (ex chains on the edges or a big hydra)? Definitely looking forward to seeing the praetor completed! Dagoth Ur
Hey everybody, thanks for the kind comments! @Chaplain Dosjetka: Thanks mate! @Naryn: SanguiniusReborn is correct, it is the chest detail of a Mark VI/VII Chest from the Sternguard kit filed down and glued to the chest. @SanguiniusReborn: DingDingDing!! @Vairocanum: Glad you like him mate! The cape will feature the AlphaOmega Emblem of Pre Alpharius XXth legion; the fella is almost finished @Brother Aiwass: Cheers mate! @MikhalLeNoir: Thanks mate, glad you like it! A marine is never finished for me without some stippling. @Luna707: Thanksà It is a pretty easy conversion; the head is from the Dark Imperium Plasma Primaris, the body is Calas Typhon's, the cape is Loken's, the Claw is Huron's and the arms are some spare cataphracti bitz. @Markus_: Thank you kindly! Now, today I have another WiP and it is of the Hydra too: The dreadnought is nearly finished, only weathering, the green details, the gun and a few bits here and there are left to do. I love the Alpha Legion contemptor, I think it is one of the genuinely most amazing figures FW produces and at least another one will join the fray down the line (Though that one will be a bit more effrit styled). Anyways, that is all Heresy stuff I have for you today, as I just got back from vacation in Croatia. Keep your eyes peeled in the next few days, as I have quite some Alpha Legion stuff to unload in this thread. I hope you enjoyed this small update and have a nice day! deathspectersgt7, Markus_, Dosjetka and 2 others 5 Back to top

That one will come when the whole squad is finished, as I have something special in mind.... @The_Stray_Idea: Thanks mate, glad you like them! Also, another thing I have for you is a nearly finished proof of concept. Recently I found this line of water-based, acrylic Airbrush Inks called AeroColor Professional and pciked a nice, rich red tone. I've only been using it for calligraphy and historic reenactment purposes until very recently, today in fact, I decided to use it as a "wash" over my usual red base (Mephiston Red over black base, then a zenithal highlight with Wild Riderz Red). Take a look: The Base is still wet, the black cloth is unfinished, but the armour is weathered and sealed, and I have to say that I am very, very happy with it! The rich, almost burgundy red makes for a nice backdrop for my RT-era inspired scheme. What do you think? Anyways, that's all for today :) Hope you liked it. Tyrannicide
That's a really nice deep red on the Angel. I was going to try one of the Scale 75 inks over my red to add some depth, but maybe I'll give AeroColor a go. Have anything else in the works for the Angels?
