Doctor Perils
By the way. Sigi? Is there an adequate latin term for lightbringer? From what I remember, the correct term would be "lucifer". Awkward... Why ? Games workshop themselves haven't minded "borrowing" terms liberaly from the Bible and other religious works, and Lucifer is present enough in pop-culture that it isn't too connotated. Lucifer lux. the light-lightbringer ? the "luc" part of lucifer comes from "lux" (some kind of declention) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/320938-ia-the-nightguard/page/7/#findComment-4411394 Share on other sites
Sigismund229
Can't be. The noun lux declines as follows Nom. Lux(s) luces(p) Gen. Luci(s) lucum(p) Dat. Lucis(s) lucibum(p) Acc. Lucem(s) luces(p) Abl. Luce(s) lucibus(p) Voc. Lux(s) luces(p) Actually come to think about it lucifer is probably a contraction or medieval version of of lux afferte(or whatever the correct grammatical form is. Too tired to look it up). So if we want to go with two words: Lux Afferte. One: lucifer. Kelborn
Well, it's kind of ironic, naming the flagship of a crusading and zealous Knight Household Lucifer. ^^ But I like it, thank you. :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/320938-ia-the-nightguard/page/7/#findComment-4411444 Share on other sites

bluntblade
We could mangle it into Luciferous, which comes very close to a ship and character from one of my all-time favourite sci-fi novels. bluntblade
I've been thinking about the question of how Malcador would find it about the core Astartes for the Rangers, and it occurred to me that we could go down the Severian route (latent Luna Wolves psyker), assuming we keep the Crusader Host. Stop me if it seems Mary Sueish, but how about our psychic source is a Lightning Bearer who has, to all intents and purposes, lost his foresight? Capture by Dark Eldar, torture shenanigans... (clears throat, adopts Bane voice) but not of your body. Of your soul. The procedure is interrupted by the arrival of some of his comrades, but our man's connection to the Warp is almost completely severed, and his ability to see the future is effectively gone. As a result of this and survivor's guilt (his fellow abductees are dead or too far gone to rescue) he ends up joining the Crusader Host. When Alexos' ritual totals the wards around the Imperial Palace, he experiences a bundle of fragmented visions, and that sets Malcador's first recruits up for their Galaxy-sized game of Pokemon Go. Edit: if we decide that it stretches credibility that a loyal Lightning Bearer would be allowed to remain on Terra, we could have Icarion send some agents to join the Crusader Host and then intrigue ensues... Kelborn
Well, correct me if I'm wrong but there were members of ALL legions stationed on terra. I've read this somewhere recently. It could be one of the LBs stationed there, being a latent psyker, who was not aware of it until mentioned ritual by Alexos. Would be the easiest way. At least I would suggest that. Therefore, he would be known by Malc, even discussing with him occasionally. *potential walk scene in the palace?* I don't think that this way would be Mary Sueish as we are just doing what GW/FW did but just a bit differently. ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/320938-ia-the-nightguard/page/7/#findComment-4442715 Share on other sites

bluntblade
Good point. I'd totally forgotten the Hands. Do we want to keep the Crusader Host, by the way? Sigismund229
Good point. I'd totally forgotten the Hands. Do we want to keep the Crusader Host, by the way? Well that depends. Nomus Sardauk
Good point. I'd totally forgotten the Hands. Do we want to keep the Crusader Host, by the way? Well that depends. Does the crusader host do anything that the Hands don't? Well Lexicanum says the Host's actual purpose is unknown, so I guess we can decide that. Kelborn
Representing the Legions. Can't remember where but I recently read that the Crusader Host was something like a honor guard, representing the Legions and acting as emessaries. Maybe HH 6: Retribution? Sigismund229
I remember a while back someone brought up the idea that the Night Guard could have white armour rather than black. Did a pair of marines to show the difference between these two. Which do you guys prefer? Kelborn
That reminds me of that Darth Vader Empire transferred into 40K artwork. Just google: Darth Vader 40K and you'll find it. Kelborn
Oh man...I cannot even post an image from the SM painter in here. -.- Got a scheme with Charadon granite, adeptus battlegrey and brass, which is very dark and could fit the night. Will see if I can post it when I'm back home. *edit* Though I love that quote, I believe it is too NL-ish.
