Thanks Kraut!

Yeh, you're right about creepy vibe.

Although for me personally it was really painful to convert them. Or rather to convert them after standard marines with simple joints. If I would to redo them, I would have taken different kind of approach.

But we'll see what will come out in a few months.

AVE DOMINUS NOX, ladies and gents!

I'm back in midnight black! Or kinda-ish...

We'll the miniature is obviously not finished. The cloak, metallics and glowing effect. But given the fact I won't have the opportunity to paint in the coming weeks I thought I'd post it anyway. Next time I will update it with a few weapon options.

Aaand given I will have the opportunity to convert in the coming two-three weeks, I will speed up my schedule and start my ETL vow - the Warpsmith of my warband (and my obvious avatar).

C&C are welcomed guys.

DV

We Night Lords don't sell our souls to Chaos Deties. Well not for poor price at least :)

Seriously though, thank you guys!

It's actually pretty simple - both armor and lightnings - with only hard part being blending of the first blue layer on the armor.

If you need, I could try to make a small tutorial on those.

I am a bit late to say this, but that Dread is already looking quite brilliant! The extended legs make him look much more plausible from a mechanical standpoint, and the overall look is like a cooler version of the vintage metal Chaos Dread from the 90s. Possibly my favourite part is how you have used the head of a chaos steed for the decoration of the Lascannon arm, though -- that is simply ingenious!

Fantastic work all around! :)

Thank you Dan!

Well I have to post something from the legion of my origin still, and I think it'll be on Sunday or Monday. Speaking about spawns - I wondered almost nobody has used idea before (or at least not the people I know of). They fit perfectly, have same size and kind of "vibe", especially for NLs. Eagerly waiting for your turn on them.

I absolutely love those old miniatures. And yep, they come from the better times... I'll try to recreate that magic once more when I'll get through unfinished projects. Speaking of which, here are some concepts I'm currently working on...

Thought might be interesting for anyone wondering what is coming up in a few weeks/months.

I still don't have any idea how to sculpt those little wings on their helmets. Any advices guys?

I love Gaz the Specialist.

Yay, I strove to catch that vibe. Mission accomplished thanks.gif hope I'll be able to maintain the same look for all my new projects.

I love Gaz the Specialist.

Thanks, he's probably the oldest "character" in my army, dating his assembly back to 2008 or so. I want to re-convert him and give him a proper respect. Much work is still to be done, but I'm getting there.

Next update will touch upon my ETL vow guys, will post something this weekend.

AVE DOMINUS NOX, ladies and gents!

So...

I know this isn't a miniature you was hoping to see, but I'm taking a bit more thought-out approach here. I wanted to draw a concept before I get to the actual conversion to get all the detailing and such. It really helped me to get what I want to see on the miniature, where I can search for the inspiration and how to get the old school overall look.

So this will be my avatar in 40k. Kinda, I guess. Humble warpsmith Tarantula, as I refer to it. I really hope I can get at least 90% close to what I drew here.

And just not to get too offtopic, here is a bunch of details I'm going to work with to make this concept of flesh and plastic:

PS: Won't update my vow until I'll have the conversion 100% ready for painting.

My hype is at maximum!

Really enjoying the pictures Ven, they remind me of Jes's work in the Gothic and the Eldric. I should draw more!

I like that you are building a tech marine as your avatar, I was thinking about one myself recently, looking forward to seeing how he comes out!

I remember your old apothercary (sp?) which was great.

The Psycho

It's coming along quite close to the concept smile.png I may post something semi-assembled in two days.

BrotherJim

Thanks for your kind words! Well actually.... nah I will spare the conversion for you and others to judge.

But what is sp?

AVE DOMINUS NOX, ladies and gents!

These guys have assembled absolutely unpredicted and unexpected on my table just a few minutes ago...

Actually building the warpsmith is a bit exausting and I wanted to quickly assemble just something without putting too much thought into concepts and such. Just like the good old days of my first conversions. Bikes weren't actually the most obvious choice for me 'cause I have tons of renegades and cultists, 'zerks, thousand sons, havocs and other stuff, but somehow they moved to my table and I've converted one bike after another.

Usually such an "off-the-wall" approach results in me scrapping the result and turning back to my latest project, but I think these deserve a shot. Let me know what you think guys!

PS: sorry for such fuzzy pictures, I don't have any camera right now but my smartphone sad.png

those are some great bikes, they are definately not deserving of the scrap pile, they really capture the chaos feel as explained in fluff, how much of their gear is salvaged and kinda "ragtag"... specifically the cables on the last guy, little asymetrical details under the hood, and the fact that they are all vastly different looking from eachother

and also the "hoods" look great, i'll definately try to copy that in particular if i make some myself

Many thanks, nice to know that I could capture that fluff vibe and that you like the front panels.

On the other hand, that is the key difference between csm and loyalists: taking into account salvaging, repairing, contacting with Warp etc Chaos has much less restrictions in terms of coming up with something irregular.

Thanks, the best thing about these is, conversions are dead simple: one just should turn the front panel upside down and put weaponry under it.

The rebreather is my favourite too, although it would look better on a raptor I think. Best helmet for the champion

I like the bikes! Sometimes it nice just to build for the sake of building. I actually do all my best work when my conscious mind isn't present. :D

(Sp?) just stands for "spelling?" As I was unsure how to spell Apothercary. (Apparently I got it right!)

Looking forward to more, will you be painting the bikes anytime soon?

I totally agree with you. Sitting with the warpsmith, trying to recreate everything to the last detail (thanks to Kraut, I can't sleep if I can't compete with his Angron).

Ah, kk. Well apothecary will make it back as a part of a new csm-squad, will start to work on them after I finish the warpsmith.

Hmm... can't say now, actually. I need to finish dreadnought, also finish old metal raptors and a predator. And 5 additional termies for my squad. Also I need to make a tutorial on blue armor and lightnings. Also bikes are really rough, I need to polish the conversion and add some detailing. Hopefully I'll get to paint them in a month.

The bikes are excellent -- your head conversions are so good that it's almost impossible to say where stock parts end and where the actual conversion (or even sculpting?!) begins! What's that part used as a front shield on the champion's bike, by the way?

That Warpsmith, though, that's really taking me back to when I built my own custom Warpsmith from a similarly expansive collection of bitz. Judging by the artwork, he is going to look absolutely fantastic! I think everyone should take this approach when constructing a Warpsmith, to be honest, as this kind of character is ideal for massive and crazy kitbashes!

Thank you Kraut! :) at the mo I'm sculpting warpsmith's body and legs. Might take a day or two (need to wait til gs dries out), but he's coming along really close to the concept. I also used plasticard for making him quasi-true-scale, as one great man made his own Night Lords.

Really much sculpting work though, no one will probably guess the stock parts under all the gs  although if I had those new Mechanicus kits I would take a different turn.

As for champion's bike front panel, I used "forehead" of a Carnosaur.

AVE DOMINUS NOX, ladies and gents!

I can't remember if I have posted my terminators which I've painted back in 2013. Anyways, because I want to post a little teaser of the warpsmith I thought I could post terminators also: it will be either something new for you or a small reminder. Either way, I hope you'll enjoy:
