Tzen
Thanks guys! All the criticism (both positive and negative) is really encouraging. It's helping me keep the the enthusiasm levels going and makes me wish I could spend all day every day on this guy till he's done! Tonight I've been able to work on the final bits of the main body of Magnus, his claws and the eye in his palm. Now, I am a big fan of "demon eye". Every film or tv series has this, and I think it looks super cool and evil. http://www.golden-throne.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/tumblr_static_f0eibu5b3y0ww0kgg0g408sgs.jpg Now normally 40k demon's dont have eyes big enough to get this effect across because the grey and white don't contrast well enough at such a small scale. However, Magnus's palm eye is pretty big. So what do you guys think? http://www.golden-throne.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/magnus21.jpg Chaplain Raeven, Aasfresser, Surreal Cruelty and 18 others 21 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/324794-tzens-thousand-sons/page/10/#findComment-4593226 Share on other sites
GrandMagnus
That was the best possible option for the eye, in my opinion. Looks nice! And evil. Tzen
Thanks Magnus (Great name by the way!). I think it looks cool too but part of me wasn't sure. Like, maybe I should have done "more" with it. Lord Commander Eidolon
Dude, I seriously hated the hand eye until you salvaged it.... awesome idea, really works soooooo much better than the almost comic GW version!! Tzen
Are you mad if I try to copy your paint scheme for mine ? Lol, not at all Atia! Flattered you'd consider it worthy to copy! Dude, I seriously hated the hand eye until you salvaged it.... awesome idea, really works soooooo much better than the almost comic GW version!! That's kinda why I am asking people for their thoughts on the eye. Trying to go for sinister, and everything else there would seem to go against the colour scheme. Nemac Vradon
That look's awesome Tzen, are you going to give the eye a coat of Ard' Coat or similar to make it shine? Tzen
That look's awesome Tzen, are you going to give the eye a coat of Ard' Coat or similar to make it shine? Nemac Gonna try a few things out and see how it goes, I may just add some black ink to the "corners" of the ye to simulate moisture. I don't want to be too heavy handed with varnish, I reckon it can be OTT if not done right and I am not sure I trust myself! Like, maybe I should have done "more" with it. I don't think you need to do more with it. Which begs the question: Will you be doing the rest of eyes the same way? On the armour and such. Tzen
You know you will have to go to Nottingham with this . I'm not sure what you mean here. If you mean I should take the model to Nottingham I am pretty sure they will sternly (but very politely) tell me to leave! :D :P Thanks Magnus (Great name by the way!). I think it looks cool too but part of me wasn't sure. Like, maybe I should have done "more" with it. I don't think you need to do more with it. Which begs the question: Will you be doing the rest of eyes the same way? On the armour and such. The eyes on the armour will stay as is, as in, they will be bright and normal eye looking. The reason for this is because I want the physical bits of Magnus to come across sinister and demonic, but I want the armour to reflect his history, and Propsero was a clean relatively colourful place. Also it's a nice contrast between the two. It's looks more sinister if it's sat next to something that is bright (even if they are still a little creepy). Addiitonally the eyes are actually sculpted on the armour to represent eyes. They have a gap where the iris is, and unless I filled them with green stuff (too late now), it wouldn't work :(. k0nahrik
The eye palm looks great! If there's one thing I would do, is maybe put a gloss on it to make it shiny and properly wet looking. I wouldn't normally do it but since the eye is so big I think it would look great Tzen 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/324794-tzens-thousand-sons/page/10/#findComment-4593388 Share on other sites
abadizzle
Always been a huge fan of yours... But this is, quite honestly, your best work to date. I'm in love. Happy holidays, brother. Tzen
Thanks guys! I am hoping to use black ink to add some moisture to the corner of the eyes to simulate a more realistic look. I don't want to go OTT with the varnish as I think it can ruin the effect on a model. :( Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/324794-tzens-thousand-sons/page/10/#findComment-4593660 Share on other sites

Tzen
Yeah, black ink is essentially nuln oil gloss. Does make me wonder if they will do gloss versions of the other washes! I tend to use Windsor and Newton inks, but that's because GW didn't sell them for ages! I do own the new gloss paints though! Halandaar
Think the hand-eye looks great as is, definitely don't need to over-do it with shiny!
