That squad looks amazing brother it's awesome to see how much this army has grown since you started it what seems like not that long ago you've really developed a rich and interesting background for the force as well something I find makes an army 10x cooler. That's also good to know about the dark mech because the more I think about it the more I want to build a force to ally with my traitors as I've decided that instead of focusing on one faction I'm going to build warbands from each traitor legion and make my own black legion which of course will need dark mechanicus support. Anywho I can't wait to see more keep up the awesome work bro.

Nice Bases.you could send me a bitnof your liquid^^
Thanks, I think I'll keep it, I actually use it a lot :P. But it should be fairly easy to get some somewhere, I'm sure that you'll find it if you search for "modelling water effect" or something like that.

I love your Magnus repose so much. I simply can't express how much. The paintjob is fitting as well. Really nice work.
As for the new CSM, I LOVE THEM! Some of my very first conversion attempts were based around chaos warriors and csm bits but they didn't look as natural and fitting as yours. Now I have to include at least one unit into my Black Legion. Simply awesome.
Thanks, glad you like his Magnus, he was actually featured on Faeit212 yesterday! The conversion is pretty easy, I'll eagerly wait for yours.

These are great! I really respect people who can pull of dark colour schemes well. I never can, maybe that's why my models are usually pale. Excellent Work! :D
Pale models are also cool, but I like my models absorbing the light from the table :P. Just kidding, I like how black looks and actually find it easier than pale palettes, white is the most difficult for me...

Magnus is oustanding, very good job on making him more dynamic and the dark red skin is far better than the GW version. Personal favourite is the green glow around the symbols on the wings.
Those CSM are great, too. The monochrome palette punctuated by accents of ghostly green and their own individual flourishes (skull mask for example) works really well.
Thanks a lot, the green glow was inspired by Hooysvision Magnus, I'm quite happy with how it turned out too, few colours and a good looking result, my favourite combination ;). Also glad you like the CSM, I hope to have an army of those one day...

Thanks Pyro, the problem is the army hasn't grown that much, it has been a long time and I can't even field an army of painted Harvesters of Souls, so I need to focus. Also I'm happy that you like the fluff, this is the army that I've dedicated the most effort in that aspect. DarkMech are always fun to make, GuitaRasmus, has some of the coolest DarkMech conversions I've ever seen and he has just become active again on the forums and restored his photo links, so I recommend you checking those out.

Something happened today:

I know I wasn't planning on getting the box and I had just done a planning of what I was going to do next but... well, I have an explanation! Yesterday someone saw my Magnus at the local store and asked the manager about it, and asked if I willing to paint some models for him. After checking out with me the manager gave him my number and he proposed me a deal, if I built, converted and painted 5 Intercessors, 3 Inceptors, a Litenaunt and the Gravis Captain of DA I could have all the DG of the box. I instantly agreed before he could rethink it, so I didn't think it through a lot myself... So for the next day I'll be doing some Dark Angel Primaris, but next I have a whole new army of models to adapt to my HoS. Problem is I don't like this kind of Nurgle aesthetic, so will have to get VERY creative. Any bizarre ideas that you have to un-nurglify the box are welcome and sorry for potential typos, I'm really short on time.

Aww yeah! After seeing the fantastic work you put in on your pledge for the Arena Challenge, I am super excited to see what you can do with the nurgle guys in the dark imperium box! Could your try and convert them to be more like entropic marines than plague marines? Like Malal or is it Malice's mockery of nurgle, so instead of the rich decay of life, its the soulless march towards dust and eventual end of all things? Thus the decay could be really monochromatic and grey, rather than disgustingly rich and vibrant?

Hope that makes sense! Am really looking forward to what you come up with next :D

The more i keep seeing the DI stuff the more i want it, the miss's wouldnt agree to it though haha... As for de-nurglfying the DG, I would get rid of the spikes and horns and fill in/smooth over the putrid bits with GS. It would take a lot of work but i know you can do it !

That's awesome man I can't wait to see what you come up with making these guys less nurglish is gonna be a chore. I would start by removing spikes and extra limbs etc first then get out the GS and get to work you'll have a lot of sculpting to do depends on how much you want to un-nurglify them.

Well, I'm excited too ;)! Malal (or Malice, it can be said in both ways) is know to be an arch-enemy of the main four, but that is the aspect of him that I usually try to exalt less in my legion (though, if you read my fluff, you'll see HoS particularly hate all of the cult legion except the TS, and they don't get on too well either). Besides, I want to do some actual conversion, not just changing colours!

The second squad is looking great, I think it will look great even with the extra white! Definitely looking forward to all the expansions you're planning, especially the dreadnought and jump pack guys!

Hehe, the second squad will have to wait, DI box really did absorb me... :P. As for the expansions, don't pay them too much attention now, I wasn't expecting to get this box and it changes everything!

I wasn't planning on getting it actually, but the deal was too good to pass... I decided not to get rid of the spikes and horns though, those are what difference chaos form loyalists after all, but I did remove all the pustules, corrosion and nurgly stuff (one of the guys had nine bells... nine bells in a single model!). It will take a lot of work indeed, but also a lot of fun!

Well, as I said to Sagentus, I think spikes are fine, we Chaos are called "spiky marines" for something, but still there is a lot to do... it will be slow, but I'm enjoying it so much, I know Malal will be proud!

Bloody hell your take on Magnus looks so good i wish he was for khorne :wink.:

Thanks! Well, it may not have been for Khorne, but at least it wasn't for Tzeentch either... (I don't know if Tzeentch is preferable to Malal though :P).

Well, with the DA primaris commission finished I started working on the DI models and, as I'm not too sure about what to do with most stuff still because of the Codex coming out very soon, I'll only convert the Plague Marines for now, as thanks to magnets infantry is always useful to me:

http://i.imgur.com/lG7HTAX.jpg

There is still a lot to be done on this, but you can see where I'm going. I'll start with Draugar equipment (count-ass Berzerkers) as zerkers are so good now that they would need a very big nerf to not be worth it. I'm of course doing them with Chainaxe and Chainsword, CA being from Puppets of War or Victoria Miniatures, because they're the coolest option as well as the most effective.

http://i.imgur.com/e59RiYL.jpg

The first one and probably my favourite, I think this is the one that I managed to un-nurglify the most.

http://i.imgur.com/1UGPVp0.jpg

This one is too fat, it was my first attempt with those belly-armours and I didn't deal well with it, so it still looks too much like a plague marine...

http://i.imgur.com/K8cmHK5.jpg

My second attempt to deal with belly armour, I dremelled the hell out of this but, by wanting to keep the mouth and cables, he still looks too fat and nurgly.

http://i.imgur.com/iz76tTV.jpg

Third attempt to deal with belly armour, and what I consider to be my first success, I sculpted the whole thing myself :P. It took more time, but I knew it wasn't going to be easy. Conclussion: belly plates are Nurgle only, don't try to use them elsewhere, not even converted.

http://i.imgur.com/OTZce1P.jpg

The head of this one is actually based on a blight grenade, but I think it fits well the HoS aesthetic. I must admit that I had some remorse when removing the shoulder pad and head, I like the Plaguebones army a lot, but then I remembered I was in a crusade against Nurgle, so I purged it with sculpting knife and dremel!

This are still in early WIP pics and, as I have all the time I want with them, I would indeed like to hear a lot what you think and any advice you might have!

Brilliant work Traitor! Love your de-nurgled squad! I think fatter belly armor isn't a bad thing, makes me think of some sort of steampunk barbarian. Very creative conversion work, although for the last guy I'd switch his shoulder pad out for a MKIII one cause I think the regular one looks a tad small. Very impressed with what I'm seeing so far, can't wait to see what you make out of everything else!

Nice work! I concur with Vairocanum, the bellies are fine. And you should exchange the shoulder pad on the last gut for an MK III one. Just looks better. The only guy I don't like is No. 3. He still looks to nurgly for me, those guts and worms just don't fit the rest of the squad,

Yes. Those are some nice conversions. I absolutely love the one in mk4. I will add the hauberque to my mk4 versions as well. It looks too cool. Really a good way to denurglefy them. Only the big belly is a prob. He has to rethink is diet

@Vairocanum: Thanks Vairo! Steampunk barbarian?? That wasn't what I was going for but it'll have to do :P Are mk. III pads really bigger than regular ones? I know the one he has now is a bit too small, but that's because this guys are HUGE!

@Aasfresser: Thanks! I'll have to see about those mk III pads then, didn't think they were bigger. And about no. 3, he has no guts or worms, just generic chaotic tentacles and cables! I hope that it is less confusing when he's painted, but Nurgle aint the only chaos gods that mutates his followers!

@Mikhal: Thanks brother! I like to think that the "larger ones" used to be followers of Nurgle before they joined the Harvesters of Souls, and they're still in the proccess of loosing weight ;)!

Well I'm leaving for three weeks and yestarday spent most of the day having a great 8th ed game with friends, so I have no updates and won't have for a while. I'll still try to be active in here though, but no content sorry, maybe I'll write a piece of fluff...

It kind of reminded me of something like this from Warmachine. I think MKIII are a tad bigger than normal pads even on the regular sized marines so it was more noticeable on the plague marine. Hope you have a great vacation! I'm sure you'll be brimming with new project ideas when you're back!

  • 2 weeks later...

We wait until you return with new stuff.

Well, I have returned. And I have new stuff ;).

Have a nice vacation!

Thanks, they were nice indeed, Wales is a stunning place, and London is full of things to see.

Will try the mkIII pad then when I return to those guys, I have to finish my Arena challenge first though.

So, I'm going away again tomorrow, but I spent today in Madrid and was able to build my August Arena Dark Apostle. Also, I'll be taking my painting kit with me this time, so hope to get some paint on this chap over the week. What do you think of him?

http://i.imgur.com/GqPkupv.jpg

Sorry to have him already primed, with the bone and metal already started, but I went to my local store this afternoon to paint him and forgot to take good pictures before, only the horrible mobile photo bellow of how he looked before trophies. I didn't get much done though, as I also bought the CSM Codex and spent most of the time reading and commenting it. It has been hard being away when my army got released :P.

http://i.imgur.com/P2e5Sim.jpg

I used the AoS Chaos Sorcerer kit as a base, which I had from the Start Collecting: Slaves to Darkness box (which is an astoundingly good box for a CSM player that knows how to convert it). I ended up using more parts of the kit than I though I was going too, as I did leave the small body at the end, just the arms, pistol and trophies are form the normal CSM box, and the head is from a Plague Grenade, I will get the hair painted as green fire, if they are undead I guess they'll be able to empty their skull and use it as a brazier :P...

I know his proportions are off, but I wanted him to feel unnatural, with those thin hips found in stilised Necromancer art.

He's part of a list for a tournament I'm planning to assist the 16th September, I need to get a lot of models ready as I want to play a full Harvesters of Souls army.  My list so far looks like this:

Magnus the Red (finished)

Daemon Prince with Wings (this one is actually from my older armies, will be the only not black thing and will substitute him if I have time, needs a claw)

- Malefic Talons

Daeemon Prince with Wings

- Malefic Talons (I'll use Reus Ghortan, need to finish painting it and make his sword look like a claw)

Dark Apostle (in process)

10 Berzerkers (5 half assembled)

- Chainsword and Chainaxe

- Icon of Wrath

- Champion with Chainsword and Power Axe

10 Berzerkers (not started)

- Chainsword and Chainaxe

- 4 lascannons

Rhino (not started)

I have all the models I need from my older army, but it would be nice to run as many HoS as possible, so will try to speed paint though it. It won't be easy though.

The Dark Apostle looks really interesting, I like your approach! Nice grim reaper feel to the model, definitely looking forward to seeing you complete him! Hope you have a good trip, and good luck speed painting all the old models!

Very gaunt guy ( hehe, no wonder, he is a skeleton^^)

I don't know why, but somehow I associate him.with slaanesh...if slaanesh stsrt to habe a liking in burning skulls.

Yes, I want to add more of an undead feel to my army, so you'll be seeing some skeletons for a while .

And yes, I guess that is because HELLRIDER!

Thanks brother! That was exactly what I was going for, to contrast a bit with all the dynamic Berzerkers that will go with him!

He's almost complete now, only the base and some weathering left, appart from the magnets, what do you think about him?

Edit: forgot to post actual pics...

So I'm back to my home next week and, even though I have a game planned for almost every afternoon, I hope to get plenty of painting time in the mornings :tongue.:. Will be a pretty intensive week if I wan't to get everything ready for the tournament...

Nice as always with a drawback. The gloweffect in the eyes is not as good as you usually do it. Because of that the focal point is lost.

The thing about the glow effect is that, if I do it, I'll basically have to paint the head green, because it should be coming from the eyes, nose and giant flame on the top. Because of that I've decided to keep it as an interior light and don't do glow effect at all, but maybe only doing it around the eyes would look good? Wouldn't it be weird that the eyes shone more than the fire?

I really like your denurgled plague marines! I was almost about to try that but the amount of work involved has imtimidated me hehe. They look great anyways, have you got any updates on them?

Thanks a lot, they were fun conversions to make! Unfortunately no, the only work I got done on those was magnetising the hell out of them, will add the final touches when I get to do another 10 zerkers (which I hope to be soon, they all have to be ready for a tournament the 17th of September... :unsure.:). They do involve work, but it is really satisfying when they're done!

He looks really good! But I have to agree with Mikhal, the eyes are a bit off.

Thanks! See what I replied to Mikhal ^^. However I realised that in the photo they look weird because the stitches they have don't show up too well, and it just looks like something strange is going on there, will try to take better pics of that later.

Looking fantastic, love the robes! How tall does he stand next to a regular csm? Looking forward to seeing the berzerkers!

Thanks brother, will take some comparison pics this night, but he's quite tall. Specially if you take trophies into account.

I haven't posted anything for a while because I've been really busy since I returned home, I've been studying and modelling every morning, playing a game with my tournament list to practice every afternoon, and then modelling more at the night (I decided to get the most out of the vacation time I got left ;)). So yes, hectic days. However, I have made progress, even though most is just the first steps of making an army, which aren't too impressive and not worth of sharing. However my list has changed a bit after four games:

Chaos Lord

- Power Mace

Chaos Lord with Jump-Pack

- Combi-Melta

- Lighting Claw

10x Cultists

- Brutal Assault Weapon & Autopistol

10x Poxwalkers

10x Poxwalkers

5x Khorne Berzerkers

Rhino
- 2 Combi-Bolters
Rhino
- 2 Combi-Bolters
Rhino
- 2 Combi-Bolters
6 Havocs
- 4 Lascannons
Magnus the Red

So far I haven't lost a single test game, defeating another Chaos list made around a Lord of Skulls (who Magnus killed), a Tau list with a Stormsurge (which also died to the wrath of Magnus) and a shooty/tanky Necron list (which killed Magnus in turn 2). Before that I also played a game of CSM vs CSM to try out the new Codex, as the tournament to which I'm going doesn't allow the use of codices because of balance issues, and it was great, the Renegade rules don't fit too well the fluff of my Harvesters of Souls, but well... at least they're useful :P.
http://i.imgur.com/jEERk9x.jpg
Magnus murderising things, as usual. On the right you can see bits of my three Rhinos, packed with goodies, in old colour schemes of mine (once I was a follower of the dark four... "shudders").

The thing is, many of my models are on my hobby store because of reasons, so I can't post most of my progress, which I'll post tonight hopefully. However, I've been working on more Chaos Warriors conversions to use as Rubrics (representing the Cremators, members of the IX Sect of the HoS), and would appreciate some feedback:
http://i.imgur.com/slyL3U6.jpg
This will be the basic Cremator with Warpflamer. I made that helmet to make them look different to regular marines, with the weird mask and the fire on the back, but I'm not too sure about it, maybe it is too different? Also, I mixed bits from the BoP Heavy Bolter and Heavy Flamer to make the Warpflamer which has given it a... heavy look (both literally and in the metal way :P) and, while I like a lot how it looks, maybe it should be more slender, what do you think guys, does rule of cool win?
Also I need something to represent the 5+ invul and +1 armour they get against damage 1 attacks in-game, so I though about adding a "shield generator" on the back:
http://i.imgur.com/IhPz9aG.jpg
http://i.imgur.com/RAtDMMK.jpg
He would have two of those, one in each side, but I'm not convinced about that solution at all. It looks too Eldar. I'm actually not sure about the force shield generator idea at all, doesn't fit too much with my fluff on the cremators. I would actually like to add something to the backpack to differentiate them further, but don't know what, maybe they're fine without anything, I'm already very short on time without having to add this details!

Of course, I need Aspiring Sorcerers to lead the units, so already started on one:
Ohttp://i.imgur.com/r6izV6G.jpg
Sorry for the specially terrible pics, I guess those aren't helping my models at all... I'm actually quite happy with him except for the hand, but I already knew I hadn't enough time to sculpt a proper armoured hand, so it'll have to do.
http://i.imgur.com/MDUQw57.jpg
I tried to use Thamier's method to sculpt the fire of the Force Sword but... well, it didn't turn out so well, I blame Milliput. Still better than most flames I've done though.
http://i.imgur.com/s9Xd3Kh.jpg

I wanted a hand with fire + I needed an Inferno Bolt Pistol + I don't like guns in the belt = I present you the Inferno Bolt Gauntlet! Quite happy with this, guess I still have some inspiration left.

Oh yes, and also this happened:

http://i.imgur.com/xTfIYNh.jpg

Hope you like them and any feedback will be greatly appreciated, hope to be able to update you tonight, I have finished 10 poxwalkers who have the pox no more, and already have half built another 10. I also magnetised the Apostle (who will be played as Chaos Lord at the end) and the zerkers, and made a lascannon for my Havocs. Also I'll try to post more often this days, your comments always motivate me, but I really don't have enough hours in the days...

Wow nice update! I totally get what you mean about making the most of the rest of your vacation, not that much longer until the new semester starts so better to get as much done as possible the few remaining weeks.

First off that helmet for the cremator is really original and coo, I think it works really well with the model! As for the force field, it certainly does look too eldar. How about something like the halo from the primaris chaplain? So basicially circling over his head with some sculpted flames?

For the sorcerer, he looks cool overall but as you said his hand could look better. Two potential issues though: first there's not that much to distinguish him as a sorcerer right now other than the flaming sword. Second is the angle of the sword you have posed, the flames you sculpted on the sword look like they are going sideways when they would usually be flowing upwards. The inferno bolt pistol looks really cool and is a great idea!

Looking forward to seeing the rhinos, will you be converting them? Or mainly relying on your fantastic freehand? Looking forward to seeing the pox walkers!
