The cremator is ace. Love his mask/helmet.

Fornthe fingers: i recently tried myself at sculpting a hand...very difficult...there is a nice tutorial on scibor concerning hands. It may help. It helped me but still it looks awkward.

Wow nice update! I totally get what you mean about making the most of the rest of your vacation, not that much longer until the new semester starts so better to get as much done as possible the few remaining weeks.

First off that helmet for the cremator is really original and coo, I think it works really well with the model! As for the force field, it certainly does look too eldar. How about something like the halo from the primaris chaplain? So basicially circling over his head with some sculpted flames?

For the sorcerer, he looks cool overall but as you said his hand could look better. Two potential issues though: first there's not that much to distinguish him as a sorcerer right now other than the flaming sword. Second is the angle of the sword you have posed, the flames you sculpted on the sword look like they are going sideways when they would usually be flowing upwards. The inferno bolt pistol looks really cool and is a great idea!

Looking forward to seeing the rhinos, will you be converting them? Or mainly relying on your fantastic freehand? Looking forward to seeing the pox walkers!

Thanks Vairo! Yes, I think I'm going to stay with that helmet design, but I'm going to trash the force field idea, at least for now. I may return to that after when everything else is ready, I can add them whenever I want, I have a magnet on the top of the backpacks for something. But yes a halo might look good, though I have no idea on how I could make those...

The Sorcerer doesn't have to be that recognisable because he's just an Aspiring Sorcerer, the squad leader of rubricae units, so I don't want him to look like a character. And the different helmet, flaming sword and fiery hand should be enough to mark him as the squad champion. As for the flames, you might be right, but my intention was for him to look like if he was swinging his sword, so the flames would be making a trail behind, but it is true that it looks a bit weird in the end.

And I do want to somehow convert the Rhinos, but I don't know how. If I had the time I would do some major plasticard work to make them look like a cross over between Deimos pattern and actual ones, but I don't. I'm thinking of adding a hanging marine corpse in the front or something like that, as I neither want to add the usual spiky trophies. Any other idea will be welcome though, and still I'll be adding some freehands if I can ;)!

Thanks Mikhal! I usually spend a lot of time on the hands when I sculpt them, they aren't easy at all, but this time I have to be as fast as possible, I even decided to use a plastic hand on the next one (see below). Even though I'll be checking that video as soon as I can, didn't know Scibor posted tutorials!

Sorry guys for posting with some delay but between games, assembling an army, and studying I just wasn't able to. However I have some content for you now.

First, I made progress on the first Cremator unit:

http://i.imgur.com/Kqb83xO.jpg

There is still much work to be made on them, but you can already make an idea of how the unit is going to look.

I also started the other Cremator unit:

http://i.imgur.com/DmCNZPK.jpg

They're only four as the two CSM units I made some time before had 6 men each, so one will be coming to this unit.

http://i.imgur.com/j2AeadP.jpg

I still have to finish the Inferno Bolt Gauntlet, and add flames to the sword, but I like how the new Aspiring Sorcerer is looking, worthy leader of a unit.

Next up is my first unit of poxwalkers, already with the first layers of paint:

http://i.imgur.com/MZQuDRb.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/ka3al2T.jpg

Every model is converted in some way, and all pustules, smiles and spilling guts have been removed. I've added some tentacles, as I liked how my "tentacly" cultist from my Officio Assassinorum army looked, but I think that my monochrome scheme will do most of the de-nurglification for this guys. The next 10 are already in the way, don't worry.

Here is my lascannon prototype, mede from a BoP Heavy Bolter:

http://i.imgur.com/BtceToi.jpg

Quite proud of this, now I just need to press mould it so that I can equip four in my havoc squad. The only thing I regret is not being able to connect it to the backpack as in the FW ones, but it is the disadvantage of magnetising everything to have modeluar units...

At last for today, here is my first Rhino:

http://i.imgur.com/C2xJvxW.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/zHkEQKn.jpg

I magnetised the roof and doors, so that they can be opened or exchanged for Predator bits. I'm going to try out how a hanging marine corspe looks at the front, but I'm open to ideas for this, I still have another two to make and don't know what to add...

Looking good. Although a bit too small for my tastes^^

Scibor does not post videos. The tutorial are a series of pictures^^

What is small? The update? The plastic hand? The amount of conversions? :P. Also checked out the scibor tutorial and looks good, though you need a surface for the hand to rest to sculpt it in that way. Will look more in depth through their page though, seems to have interesting stuff.

Ahh I see your point about the aspiring sorcerer, something minor that you might be able to add is some long flowing parchment? I think it could look good after your freehand.

The cremators are looking fantastic, you're very quick with progress! Your poxwalkers look brilliant, really liking what you've done with them so far! The lascannon is looking cool, maybe make a GS arrow down the barrel to make it more chaos? Also for the rhinos, the marine corpse sounds great! Other potential options could be flayed skin, souls of some sort appearing from the armor plates, chains and some more chaos looking trim. Looking forward to seeing more!

Of course the scale. You already ventured Into truscale territory, so now stay there ^^

You can USe it also without a surface but you will need to weit until the GS is close to dry, then you can fold the fingers to your likng

Your Cremators look interesting. I like how you made flamers and a las cannon out of the heavy bolters, esp. the little extra details that make them different from HBs! Gonna steal that idea when I increase my Scorched CSM some day ;)

What somehow bothers me is the second asp. sorcs hand and head position. The flame suggests it's shooting right into his face, maybe you should change the angle of the wrist so that flame and hand back are in a square angle. Or you could just change the flame, so that it goes more towards "up". No matter what: the sorc should look at the flame, like he is just about to summon it.

And how do you mage copies of your bits? Is this just pressmolded or do you make real molds and use some greenish resin? Looks like more just pressmolding.

Yeah, I was thinking of adding a tabard to the Aspiring Sorcerer, and the flowing parchment sounds like a good idea too.

Thanks for the compliments! Adding an arrow to the lascannon might not be a good idea, as two-piece press molds don't keep that kind of detail well. Adding souls trying to get out of the rhino's armour might look great though, and would fit my lore perfectly, so will try out that.

Should have guessed it was something like that... ;) I'm NOT making a whole truescale army, and even less when I need to have it ready in three weeks :P! However I want to improve my sculpting skills, so I will be making some sporadic characters afterwards and might truescale those.

Thanks brother! I make them out of plastic heresy-era Heavy Bolters as they're one of the few heavy weapons compatible with boltgun arms, which is essential for me as I magnetise every weapon and need to be able to swap them around :P!

You're right about the flame looking a bit off, though most is because of the angle of the photo. Will follow you suggestion and make it

more upwards.

And yes, I simply press molding the bits. It might not look perfect, but it is much easier and looks decently enough when painted. The resin-like aspect is because I recently mix the greenstuff with milliput for a harder (and cheaper) finish, perfect for this kind of sturdy bits.

On to progress, I did the hanging corpse on the Rhino front, as well as a II on the door:

http://i.imgur.com/zjUyKKE.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/gQudHu6.jpg

The trophy is not perfect, specially the joints, by I guess an armour can break when used like that :P.

I also magnetised the doors so that they can be opened, but I'm not sure if it is worth the effort, so I don't know if I'll do it for the other two. I do want it to be usable as a Predator though, but I'm sure it'll be easier to magnetise if if doesn't have to actually work...

http://i.imgur.com/nE9qbFo.jpg

Also I started another Rhino, "Mr. Spiky":

http://i.imgur.com/T9cLiS1.jpg

Still very WIP, but you can already see the shape it is taking.

At last I made my Jump Pack Chaos Lord, whose pose is inspired by MikhalLeNoir recent Wolf Lord, though not quite the same:

http://i.imgur.com/n8gZWed.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/V57iLgp.jpg

I like a lot how he has turned out, the only problem I have with him is that he stands a bit short near other marines because of his pose, but I think that the wings should be enough to make him stand out as a character.

Yeah, the MK III and MK IV HBs are great for that kind of stuff. Since Augustus "convinced" me to do this, I now almost always put a bit of Miliput into my GS when I'm doing something with it. Esp. on the pressmolded smll bitz and details it is a great help.

The "trophy" looks good. Make him a filthy Space Wolves Blood Claw.

Great work on the rhinos, the space marine corpse is looking great! Will you be painting on battle damage to the marine or scratching it in later? The Jump Pack Chaos lord is looking really cool, but I'm kinda imagining him with a flaming head like Ghost Rider. As for two part press molds, I tend to stick small pieces of GS in the mold first and push the GS into all the details first before I add the rest of the GS, that way I can ensure detail isn't lost as much. Looking forward to seeing more!

@Aasfresser: yeah, milliput is great, been using it for a couple of weeks and I realise I should have bought it long ago...

I've been thinking of how I should paint the dead marine, but still haven't decided. I hate space wolves too as a lost legion (and also because even though I like Vikings a lot, I don't like how GW executed that theme), but Harvesters of Souls are supposed to ignore them untill the moment is right, and then they will destroy them. So I'm basically tore between Ultramarines, as I dislike those too and they're easy to come by for an extra intimidating effect; or Imperial Fists, as a friend collects them and I play against him frequently. Which one do you think that would look better with my scheme?

@Vairocanum: Thanks brother, I'll be painting the damage, I like it more how it looks that way. And yeah, I get the Ghost Rider vibe too and I'm very tempted to sculpt flames on him, but my other chaos lord has already a flaming skull and all the Cremators will have flames on their heads, so maybe it would be too much... Still not sure though.

As for the press molds what I do is make one of the parts bigger than the other so that most of the piece fits on it. So when I cast something I put a lot of water on the small part, press it as much as I can, and then remove it. In this way I can see the new piece and see if it has imperfections and, as it is still fresh, I can easily fix them. This is a bit difficult to explain, so I'll post pics of it if I can.

Then I would go for.the imperial fist because you can loaer the morale of your enemy as soon as you place your models on the board ( and it will give great photos)

Yeah, both are good points, but I don't know if a spot of yellow full of blood will draw too much the eye...

So, something important happened, I made the early mock-ups of my remaining berzerkers, meaning that now I only have to convert and greenstuff, but I have all the models I'm going to use "built":

http://i.imgur.com/qZ6KKxQ.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/P7fBK28.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/KV0OzZp.jpg

Still a lot of work left on this, filling gaps, adding rebreathers to the faces, adding the backpacks and chaosifying them to bring them more in line with the DG-based models. Also you might have noticed that two of the icons are from previous units, one of the benefits of magnets, as I won't be needing those on their original units and it saves me some work ;).

Also yesterday, after playing against a grey knights army, I had half an hour left in my hobby store in where I managed to finish my challenge Dark Apostle/ Chaos Lord:

http://i.imgur.com/yzcxtAa.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/I6cKYRe.jpg

Not my best model, but still quite happy about him, he has the vibe I'm going for with this army and will look just fine besides my Havocs giving them re-rolls of 1s to hit :P.

Aslo Vairocanum asked for some comparison pics to see how tall he was:

http://i.imgur.com/nf0VbuD.jpg

He's already bigger than my CSM (which are themselves taller than normal CSM), and the trophies makes him even more big...

http://i.imgur.com/FAfCgR0.jpg

... but between cultists he's really huge!

I vowed in a local Tale of Warlords to get all the army ready for priming this week, so will have to sprint!

Wow lots of progress, the berzerkers are looking awesome. The standard bearer in the first pic is my favorite out of the new guys, looking forward to seeing you complete these guys. The Dark Apostle is really tall, he looks perfect next to the cultists!

Yeah, even though I'm making a lot of progress I don't know if it will be enough to finish on time... The Draugar are almost ready, just need finishing the rebreathers and adding two back packs. Also I'm quite pleased with how the Dark Apostle/ Chaos Lord looks besides his peers, it points him even more as a character.

I like the standard bearer in the second pic the most.

Overall a very decent job.

Thanks Mikhal, for everything being made as fast as I can I'll take decent as a great compliment! ;)

Today I took pics of the army (except for Magnus, he's on my hobby store showcase) as it is right now. Still a lot to do, but it is already taking shape and every model is present:

http://i.imgur.com/lUrqtqF.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/cfdZMWe.jpg

After it I almost finished the Draugar and worked more on the second unit of poxwalkers, but there's still work to do before I can start painting.

Also made a quick tutorial of how I press mold:

Step 1: fill the mold with the material you use (I used greenstuff and milliput 1:3) and press as much as you can, to be sure that it fills every detail.

http://i.imgur.com/nnlS7Ru.jpg

Step 2: wet a lot the other part or use extra of the anti-adherent you use, so that it will easily go off.

http://i.imgur.com/kTf2TgG.jpg

Step 3: after pressing the two parts together remove the part shown before, so that you can see the new piece. Note: for this example I didn't fill the mold as much as I should to make sure that there would be errors, so the quality is a bit lower than usual.

http://i.imgur.com/AvWOPOB.jpg

Step 4: as it is still fresh, fix with your sculpting tool the piece as much as you can, it is possible to add extra details at this stage or even put a blobs of GS in spots that you see that haven't captured the detail well and press it again with the other part.

http://i.imgur.com/WHafvVw.jpg

Step 5: another advantage of doing it this way is that you can remove most mold lines while they're still fresh, saving up material and making it easier for you afterwards.

Hope you found it helpful!

The Apostle's height really makes him stand out from the cultist masses, combined with his more slender torso it really gives him a gauntness that picks him out from his fellow marines. The beserkers are looking good too, some really nice poses in there. Thanks for the look in into your press moulding too, it's a technique I'm getting more and more interested in recently.

Thanks! Reposing mk. III armour is quite easy, being so segmented helps a lot. Also give press molding a try, it won't get you whole models, but it's great for getting some bits as weapons and such!

Awesome looking army! Hope you have enough time to complete it and looking forward to seeing more painted up!

Thank you brother, whatever I don't get for the tournament I'll finish after, even if it just for pride . Painting shall begin next week!

Big update incoming...

I've finished the infantry of my army and tomorrow I plan on getting the Rhinos done, so on Monday I'll base it and get it primed hopefully.

10 undead thralls (count-as poxwalkers):

http://i.imgur.com/gMujKsn.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/e3rmNNq.jpg

Quite happy with how this look even though the GS isn't as smooth as I would like, but I've managed to get 20 completely different between them and to any other poxwalker out there, and hope to diferentiate them further with paint. Also Avery fluffy option for my undead themed army!

3x5 Draugar units with Icon of Wrath, Chainaxe & Chainsword and Power Axe on the champion (count-as Berzerkers):

http://i.imgur.com/6dOp51S.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/Tpiyv8f.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/rpe8Snu.jpg

Converting the Plague Marines into servants of Malal that count as the servants of another god simply felt awesome and I'm sure that it will give me plenty of good rolls on the tournament :tongue.:, and I like quite a lot how they look at the end too. The only thing I'm not sure about is the fluff explanation of them all wearing the extra bulky rebreathers, maybe it allows them to see the battle first hand and enhances the smells and noises of it to drive them further into a state of maddening frenzy?

3x5 Cremators with Warpflamers and Force Sword & Inferno Bolt Gauntlet on the Necrontian leader (count-as Rubric Marines):

http://i.imgur.com/qkMZYKD.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/PuMnCk5.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/xdATmo1.jpg

You can see how I learned to sculpt flames on this (from the lower pic to the first one) and I think that I'm better at it now. Also did as Vairocanum suggested and added more cloth to the two new Necrontians and extended the flame of the one with the raised hand as Assfresser pointed out. Will be getting more 32mm bases on Tuesday though, so those will have to wait a bit.

6 Havocs with 4 Lascannons:

http://i.imgur.com/1tU6m6O.jpg

Simply added the weapons to these, as well as the knife in place of the banner and the severed head in place of the champion's power axe, to have everything exactly represented.

It is good to have finished this at last!

Really cool looking thralls, some great bits use! The Draugar are looking awesome too, as mentioned before you've made the DG armor look really unique. Definitely looking forward to seeing you paint these guys up, good luck!

Thanks! The thralls are made exclusively out of poxwalker bits with the exception of a cultist head an an arm, the models were already creepy zombies, I just needed to remove all the yucky stuff!! About the Draugar I would have liked to add the custom bits for the backpacks, but those will have to wait until after the tournament... Tomorrow I'll buy a primer spray and painting will begin, as I managed to base them this night!

Excellent work as always, I love how each unit looks completely different, but is still clearly in the same army, I think its the custom backpacks that do it. Great Job!! :biggrin.:

Thanks! I know that sometimes I don't keep too much in common between my units, but my monochrome paint scheme unifies my army well enough and, as you said, the custom backpacks also help.

Today I finished the Rhinos and managed to base everyone (except for the Cremators whose bases will arrive on Tuesday), so tomorrow I hope to start painting. This Friday I start school though, and it is my last year, so my hobby time will get reduced :(... However I've been playing almost a game each day for the past weeks, so I will cut out from there to get the army painted!!!

Rhino 2:

http://i.imgur.com/7l6a2mb.jpg

Finished at last, I just had to add some spikes to the sides and top since the last update, but I think you can get the "spiky" theme well enough ;).

Rhino 3:

http://i.imgur.com/6O9HQyt.jpg

Had to give the photo a B&W filter as this Rhino is based on an older one I had from my first Chaos colour scheme, and red and yellow with plastic grey and GS green don't favour WIP models much :P. I'm quite happy with how he looks though, I gave him a Chaos trophy, as this is a Malal army and you don't get many more opportunities to do impaled Berzerkers, and did some bursting souls as Vairocanum suggested to cover the marks that removing old bits left, as well as a couple of tentacles.

Groupshot, the "Malal-mobile", "spiky engine" and "loyalist-screwer bus" from left to right:

http://i.imgur.com/1rx9se0.jpg

Very happy with how these look, they all have a unique feel but are still recognisably chaos. Also it has been a long time since I painted any vehicles, so we'll see how that goes...

Nice rhinos! I really hope that first one is really rusty cos all I can think of when is see it is

:biggrin.:

Well, that's because it is heavily inspired by that very same car, Mad Max is always a great source of inspiration ;)! However I don't add rust to my vehicles, so I'm sorry to let you down on that.

Today I got everything primed, just a planned, and made six objective markers, which I'll show when finished because just in black you can't see the detail. And... I also finished a Rhino!

http://i.imgur.com/pFWPMd7.jpg

I realised when painting it that it had been literally years since I painted a vehicle, so any tips and input will be extremely welcome! More weathering? More blood? No lights? I would have liked to add some shining green chaos star freehnads, but I have to be as quick as possible, so I might do that later when I return to him to paint the interior (which I will... after the tournament).

http://i.imgur.com/hgCs1XR.jpg

I know the edge highlights could be sharper, but this is just a Rhino after all, so I wasn't as careful as usual. For the next one I'll make the each half of the icon meet on the middle, even if that means that some bits will be on different doors. Also... does it have too many colours? I was afraid this would happen when I added the trophy, but I know my opinion is a bit biased so would like to hear what more "colourful" painters think...

And how do you add scratchs on a black surface? I usually do a line with my highlight colour and another with a darker one, but there is nothing darker than black! Maybe I should have done as Vairocanum suggested and sculpted the damage.
