The Anvils of Konor - Champion Grune Thrael painted!

That breacher is badass. The sword itself has got to be one of the best power swords I've ever seen, I want one.

Really glad you like it! I'll have to try to remember where I got the blade from to replicate it! :O

Absolutely aweosme.

Thanks Magnus! Very happy with how quickly this guy came together!

That gorget looks perfect on MKIII, definitely need to steal that idea. Really fantastic work as usual, looking forward to seeing more!

Thanks Vairocanum! I have more ideas with gorget 'transplants' so watch this space!

My eye, it twitches at the sight of that sweet breacher! Sgt Tullus looks ready to board an enemy ship and take it himself.

He may well have done just this in the past! ;) Glad he meets your approval Hushrong!

Damn, son, that Breacher sarge is a boss. Scabbard is a great addition.

Thanks man!

I keep telling you, add those Aquila's......

Superb work, the gorget addition is creative genius, simple yet effective. The additional sculpted plate on the chest is truly impressive, such smooth work.

Time to get on the Death Guard fun bus and rectify the mistakes of the design team.....

As ever I appreciate your praise Eidolon!

I have always felt that standard breachers (only the helm being different) doesn't give the impression of a close quarters boarding badass so I wanted to add additional plates. I have more ideas to play around with including a potential IIIrd Legion breacher sgt... ;)

Evening all,

Just a little update today; decided to try a Legion specific breacher upgrade using the ornamented Sternguard torso and standard MK3 plastics, with soke details added/removed. I plan to add a 'III' and a sculpted wreath also.

Naturally this is a suit of MK3 modded by the IIIrd Legion Techmarines/Mechanicum attaché.

Donned 'Bastille', this pattern was one of the last developments made within the Legion to maintain utility over aesthetic, and the implementation of this mark into the ranks of the Emperor's Children decreased fatalities during boarding actions with immediate effect, the stylised Aquila gorget guarding the vulnerable neck seals from blade and bullet.

Sadly, after Fulgrim and his sons began their hedonistic journey into Chaos, any and all innocations were made to increase and enhance sensory experiences within the battlefield.

Relics like this suit of Bastille armour are condemned to rot and decay, artefacts of a bygone age of glory and enlightenment.

Hope you like! Keen to hear what you think!

Whoa that is honestly amazing, looks like you might be able to one up fabius bile with that kind of facial reconstruction. Is the bottom jaw completely resculpted? Also that symmetry in the filigree is just WOW. Looking forward to seeing you finish this model!

Evening all,

Been tinkering away on an idea that kinda ran away with me...

I was originally going to use the 'Bastille' pattern MK3 on a lowly breacher sgt, but that idea snowballed into HQ territory and I've ended up working on a Praetor instead...

I suppose I wanted to do justice to the opulence of the IIIrd Legion, and the more elite you go the more license for embellishment!

I think I have a couple of sessions left to go with this chap, but am happy with progress on his drapery (the cloak is based off of the Master of the Fleet miniature), and have done one shins worth of filigree, with the matching leg to follow along with the vambraces and potentially the groin plates...

Other than that, I have to sculpt another 'III' on his right pauldron and then the EC Legion symbol on his left pauldron. Phew!

Really keen to here what you esteemed fellows make of this guy!

Well Played using that Aquila bit to add some extra EC flare.  You've given the Bastille armour that extra "tough" look, armour with that name would need, but also kept it EC classy! :tu:

Thanks Chandrian, I'm delighted you approve!

i like that he is smiling...

the armour looks stunning

Well of course, he's fabulous! I'm glad you like the armour :)

Fantastic stuff!

That smirk he has, whilst only a relatively small detail compared to the work you're carrying out on the armour really embodies the Emperor's Children I think.

Thanks man, I've been playing around more and more with altering 'stock' heads to break from the standard! if he looks like you want to punch him in the face he's definately IIIrd Legion!

Oh, that is nice! Mind if I copy that for some bodyguards?

I also like the smirk he has from showing off his armor.

Go for it man! As you can now see, the smirk may also be from his massive weapon...

Thanks dude! Really its just a knick removed and filled in for the smirk. The symmetry is a real challenge with this piece, but so long as I take my time it should work out ok!

Finally you listen to my advice!

Can't really add to what's already been said! The smirk on the face is so characterful. Good move on swapping the head out.

Really looking forward to seeing the next stages of the Embellishments!!

If a maestro with the IIIrd Legion like yourself approves then all is well! Hope you enjoy the next stages of this project!

Very subtle conversion. Impressive.

My thanks squire! Glad you like it so far!

That is sublime! Ornate armor, cocky-smirk on his face, and his relaxed pose just screams Emperor's Children!

I also like the removal of rivets. That makes the mk3 armor look so sleek but still have that nice, bulky presence. Also, how do you do the filigree? Do you roll GS into strands and then apply it onto the armor? I tried it before on one of my blastmasters but...it looked like the artwork of a small child and a marker on a white wall. That's the best way I could describe my handiwork.

I want to burn my whole collection every time I see this thread.

Great work.

Blimey! I only seek to inspire, not discourage!

Thanks for the support!

Awesome work dude! Really love the sculpting :tu:

He'd make a fantastic pre-Heresy Praetor :)

Thanks man! Still a bit to do and have been swamped lately but hope to get some stuff done today!

Thanks! I thought surface rivets would be deemed aesthetically unpleasing to warriors of the IIIrd.

For the filigree I roll the putty into really fine tubes and really gently apply to the surface, teasing into place and eventually pushing down on the sides to get it to properly stick to the armour.

NICE, I like how hes holding the cape like the old captain mini.

Thanks Magnus! It just came about that this pose suited a Commander of the IIIrd very well. Those masters of the chapter were awesome models.

Phenomenal work! The cape looks awesome and it's kinda surprising how smooth the armor looks without all the rivets. I think adding some jewels, ropes, and tassels to the armor could add to his fanciness. Looking forward to seeing more!

Thanks man! I have since added some jewels and need to sort their settings, but I am of two minds about adding braiding/tassels!

Hey guys,

I managed to finally get some more work done on the Lieutenant-Commander and have just about finished his cloak (needs some neatening up/added depth).

I have a few more details to add on the armour, including the shoulder eagle, which is prepped for sculpting. With luck I should be able to share pics of the completed model tonight/tomorrow.

Keen to hear what you think!

~ He slowed his breathing and disdainfully brushed the back of his gauntlet across his brow to remove the single bead of sweat that had formed. Mere moments before he had delivered the coup de grace to his foe, leaving the alien’s ruptured body twitching as it oozed vile, black liquid over the tiled floor. It was an honour and thrill to bring death to The Emperor’s foes.

His armour was unblemished from the duel; metals remained polished to a mirror finish and his brocaded finery was still immaculate; and it would remain so! He scoffed as he scornfully lifted up his cloak to avoid the opulent fabric being fouled by the growing pool of gore spilling out on the floor. Only his blade, slick with the oily blood of the vanquished xenos, gave evidence of any involvement in what had proved to be a pathetically brief clash. Even the champions of this species, it seemed, were no threat to a warrior of his consummate skill.

Claudius Vardo, Lieutenant-Commander of the IIIrd Legion, would be lauded by his legion and acclaimed by the Remembrancers for this latest campaign triumph.

Yet, each of the pacifications he commanded and every subsequent honour attributed to his name provided less and less gratification. He yearned for real challenge to allow him to attain the perfection embodied by his Primarch. He required a truly worthy opponent, an opponent able to test his skill at arms, able to match his lethal agility and thus provide the exhilaration he could now only feel in personal combat, a euphoria ever more fleeting with each easy victory. ~

Evening all!

Over the last week you will have seen the WiP shots of this chap; Claudius Vardo.

I'm pleased to say I finished him today!

He presented some interesting challenges, and I thoroughly enjoyed trying to embody the martial pride and austentation of the IIIrd Legion with this conversion.

I'm a little dissatisfied with the 'III' on his right pad, and it needs a little tidying, but otherwise I'm very happy with how he's turned out.

There is a slight gap between the torso and top most groin plate as this is where the body meets the legs and can be removed for ease of painting.

A big thanks to LordCommanderEidolon and James Fenlon AKA Fenbain for helping me with their feedback and then again for their help with writing the background story. I'm no Byron that's for sure!

Anyhow, I hope you enjoy. Thanks for looking!

Your work with cloth is phenomenal! Is there a trick to knowing where and what folds to add to the cape? Looking forward to seeing the completed model!

Thanks Vairocanum! I will often use an image to help me with the realism, but I'm getting better at working out natural shapes in the cloth.
