2023 was what we last heard; given Saber apparently pulled staff off of virtually every project to try and salvage Aspyr's botched KOTOR Remake, it's possible this may slip as a result.

That would be a real shame, I just got myself a 6800 XT and wanted to give this a whirl soon.

Yeah I think the wester leadership lost their mind a bit. I heard that Russian Blue cats were banned from being able to compete in cat shows lol.

We need to take a step back a bit.

The game is looking brilliant at least. A delayed game is better no game!

Focus Entertainment will reveal the official launch date of the highly anticipated Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 - the iconic Games Workshop licence – in early December. The game is now poised to ship in the second half of 2024, to provide the time needed to properly polish the game and to ensure the best possible experience. Focus Entertainment is committed to releasing a game that is of the highest quality and that exceeds the expectations of the countless fans of the franchise. Space Marine 2 has already accumulated over a million wish lists to date.

From Focus Entertainment's Update on execution of the line-up and partnerships document from today.

In the wise words of Gabe Newell "late is for a while, suck is forever" so it might not be ideal but I've waited like a decade for this game I can wait another year if it keeps looking as promising as it does now in the trailers.

Sabre, Focus, etc are not great studios. If the big studios are struggling to get games out feature complete it’s going to take small ball studios even longer. From the select footage we saw there was still a ton of issues with things like the attacks actually connecting, cloth clipping through armor, the weird thickness of the guard helmets. Hopefully this will let them clean up enough to avoid another dark tide.

I really hope the delay results in a highly polished release, thats as fun as the first game but with nids instead.

But usually long-delayed games are still very messy. Darktide basically hit what people expected it to be at launch a year later. Halo Infinite was threadbare. Diablo 4 had the very basics. Cyberpunk....

Id rather they take their time with it than push it out before its ready. Dont want another darktide.

This is provided the wait results in actual more polish.

With the state of the gaming industry lately and the amount of games coming out completely unfinished just to satisfy arbitrary release dates, a delay is certainly no problem for me. Would rather it come out in 2025 and be amazing than tomorrow and be a bug-riddled mess (pun intended)

If space marine 2 its a good game, it will be a good game with six months of delay. If not, they have time to make it good or even better. So its a win win for me.

To be perfectly honest, it's Saber. Pushing it back isn't a guarantee it'll improve the quality, rather, the opposite is a more likely outcome given their history.

From what I've heard from people who got to play the beta, the game (gameplay, story, visuals) is excellent and a perfect sequel to the original. They're holding it back to optimize the performance, as the issues present were stutters, framerate swings, and so on.

The game's "quality" doesn't seem to be in question or "breakable" by Saber. They just need to polish the performance part.

Performance is part of a game's overall quality though. It could have the best art, sound and systems going but if it's basically unplayable due to bad optimization then it's a bad quality game.

Don't get me wrong I agree with you that the impressions I've seen about the core of the game seem to be positive. Just saying that performance is not somehow divorced from the overall product.

So long as it's not delayed so they can add a shop or battle pass or some other way to aggressively monetize it.

Those will have been the core around which the rest of the game was designed. 40K games are inherently MTX machines.

Yeah, but the concern is "Saber = bad game". The game is great already, it just needs a bit of hammering into better technological shape. And that's not really rocket science, they will get there and it's great it didn't get shipped unoptimized.

I mean, the absolute state of AAA gaming these days- a delayed game no longer means the game will be polished at release. Being multi platform, only increases the chance for a bad PC release as well.

Release date 09/09/2024.

Visible Phobos armour Marine, with a Crux Terminatus shoulder pad. Does the Crux indicate seniority only, or will we be able to play as TDA?

Confirmed Tzaangors and Rubric Marines as enemies - not sure if this is just the horde mode, or in main story as well.
