[DH1e] The Damocles Contingency (OOC)

No, not at all. The light by the holotable is more than enough to discern stances, features, of those close to it. You might not know who they are, but you can guess as to what they do. The narrative is in your hands. Just have to bear in mind the circumstances of the setting.

I'm trying to bring a bit more of the players/characters natural smarts into it narratively to make it more organic, as opposed to forcing rolls.

If you'd rather roll for it to influence your narrative, that's fine too - a Challenging (+0) Perception roll would be appropriate.

BTW, I loved Stimms' reaction. Nice.

The instruction was ambiguous. It did not say palm down it just assumed that people would place their hand that way as is normal.

Hand flat palm up is possible it just requires more thought.

My hand obviously isn't sufficiently bendy

But it was fine - there's actually some continuous background dialogue going on between...parties, where your different hand placement is mentioned and is viewed as some kind of lateral thinking by the character. This has not been included because this is a limited information game. Once the game is complete, it will be edited in, if I can find the time.

You didn't need to edit the post, as you can see from the response, the [ORGANISATION] is happy enough to go along with it. It could even have a few wonky side effects, since what's about to happen is going to make a lot more sense when it does...

In the end, it's up to the players.

@GM: What kind of food is available in the Refectory? Are we talking water and corpse-starch dispensers, or anything more substantial? (Don't want to make stuff up if it isn't what you were thinking or if it spoils what others want to write?)

Likewise the Apothecarion? Don't want to steal Stimms' thunder... but if there are any small medical supplies left out, Reynard would probably pocket a few?

Finally, is there anything in the briefing room that might reveal anything about our mission?

I assume the dormitory is just a room with beds in it...

My God, this man is going to rob the Inquisition blind, and leave nothing but bare rooms!

"Excuse me young man, but is that 47 STC Departmento Munitorum cots in your pocket?"

"No sir. 45 and two rolls of wallpaper."

The food in the refectory isn't as bad as corpse starch, but this isn't the space ritz. Basic fare, different nutrient pastes, solid foodstuffs such as bread (a few days firm) some fruit (make it up), some cold meats, soup of the day (peashoot and grox) and definitely only SPOONS.

And the chef knows how many!

Medical supplies, light stuff, but there is a "nurse" who will be very testy about her NOT SHARP scissors going missing. No illegal stuff like Obscura etc, maybe a couple of stimm-shots. Garvek will know the proper medical stuff.

The briefing room has benches and most of the kit bolted down. The beds are also bolted down.

And the nurse is bolted down!

Anything above corpse starch will be a vast improvement for our intrepid penal conscript! This has been a veritable vacation for him thus far: some quiet solitude, the company of a beautiful woman (sort of), not being assaulted by some muscle-bound tough named "Scarface," and the promise of (nominally safe) living quarters with decent food.

Edit: updated prior post to put The Penitent in his armor in line with Beren's/Stimms' post. This probably fits with his mentality a bit better anyway.

Nice!

Supplementary question, based in part on your comment about there not being any sharp objects, and in part on other people's posts: do we still have our weapons on our persons? I had assumed not, but then I wasn't sure?

Falk, and everyone with him have their kit. Being escorted here has it's perks.

As soon as you pick up your Seal btw, your (and Stimms') manacles will fall off.

Make of that what you will...

Gets better.

Who do you think is running the apothecarion?

Hi Mazer - The edit was just so that I could show how Kerr Restal did it. It's a Really Uncomfortable position to do from standing, sitting or kneeling is best.

That's really my bad for not paying enough attention to non-Stimm related posts.

@Necronaut - So you struck through about putting your armour on, but failed to strike through the next line.

The one saying that you put your armour on? Gambeson, Hauberk, Boots and Slitted Helm.

I'm extremely confused by this. I'm seeing literally the opposite of what you're describing: I struck through leaving his armor behind and added the sentences about him hastily donning his guard armor. I can remove the struck-out bits to make it more readable, sorry; I mostly kept them for my own book-keeping.

Edit: Strike-throughs removed from the aforementioned post for legibility.

As Stimms has his weapons back, I'm assuming all of our guns/blades are also there in the dormitory, hope that is ok, GM?

Yes, that's fine.

You're Novitiates, but the fact you have your weapons back should tell you something...
