The UK gaming expo is coming at the beginning of June. Would it be too much to perhaps see some evidence of it there?

Hope, a fools hope perhaps.

Maybe? But isn't that when they usually reveal small boxed games, like those labyrinth of the Necrons type things?

From what I've seen there's been reveals for specialist games which this would fall under. If it were a self contained game as a starting point it could work.

Guess we'll see soon.

The only thing that bothered me about the trailer is that it looks like they’re keeping those long rectangular bases for the infantry from the earlier editions which I always kinda hated.

I think the low profile round bases you see with a lot of modern 3D printed Epic stuff looks a lot better.

The rectangular bases are integral. Those low profile round 'bases' are what you use to position epic minis on a proper base, and the rectangular bases are not from earlier editions - they actually used to be square in Space Marine 1st Edition and 2nd Edition.

That's literally the coolest thing about AT, that it is done right first time and left alone. (Mostly).

c.f. Mordhiem. Get it right first time, then only minor balance tweaks after a couple of years. I think that's a good model for specialist games, and leave the constant tweaks to main games.

I thought base size in Epic Armageddon was basically up to the player as long as they kept within the minimum sizes.

In fact, I have the rules here:

A lot of the current players use round bases which look pretty cool, as long as they are the minimum dimensions.

You are quite correct, I was mainly pointing out that early SM editions were mainly the square bases.

I hope they keep that flexibility

On top of the UK Games Expo in June, we've also got the following upcoming events at which they could fully reveal Epic;

  • UK Games Expo (June)
  • Nova Open (August / September)
  • Gen Con (September)
  • Spiel (October)
  • Warhammer Day (October)

One of Valraks sources said that potentially Epic was releasing end of summer period (can't remember if it was his trusted source or a different one.)

For that to be true, we'd need a full June reveal at the earliest. Assuming of course that GW want a month or so to spread hype before Preorders open.

May, after Warhammefest at the very start, June, and July tend to lack major events. Nova tends to fall around end of August giving almost 4 months.

I think we'll see a Warhammer online preview event to coincide with Leviathan's launch or shortly thereafter at the start of July. Remember, the marine and tyranid books, and new models need to be shown off properly too. So slotting in an online preview event that covers beyond Leviathan would be an excellent time to cover other systems too, so revealing Epic.

Based on the "teased" Titan Base, I expect for the reboot of EPIC Round Bases (with holes?) even for Infantry Units.

Where is the good stuff?

.... sorry if that seemed rude, can't listen at work and super interested

Biggest thing is that it's not called Epic (valrak said he's heard its called Warhammer The Horus Hersey Legion Imperialis or something like that) and that it won't use the epic rules. Oh and it's also supposedly coming end of summer- years end.

Personally I was more invested in the Amazon TV series rumours...

Imperial Army vs Space Marines

I'm kind of dubious on this, due to (as I've said numerous times before) the relatively low effort for GW to get Marines for this game - there's already Titans and Aircraft to this scale (for AT and AI respectively), so they'd literally only need to make two sprues to get a complete game - one with Infantry, the other with Tanks.

However!!!  As the existing Titans and Aircraft would also fit with Imperial Army, again all that would be needed for those are another two sprues - again, one for Infantry, the other for Tanks.

We've had that teaser, and the symbols on the formation markers would seem to suggest it's Legion vs Legion (Sons of Horus v Imperial Fists), which again makes me doubtful for Imperial Army.  We'll see when the box is unveiled; it wouldn't surprise me if the initial starter is all Marines (plus Titan support), but then we could likely see Imperial Army added as the next 'faction' for the game.

If that does happen, well, it's a step closer to getting a return of Epic 40k proper...! :biggrin:

If it is Auxilia and Legions in the same box I’m wondering if this isn’t the Tallarn project we’ve been seeing pop up every few years.

Base sizes predication:

-10 infantry on 32s, Dreads on 25s (like Armigers), small tanks on 28s (Sabres, predators, new stuff), battle tanks on 32s (Russ, Sicaran, etc), big boys like Spartans on 40s, and superheavies on 50s. This keeps all the bases cleanly smaller than the titans and the mechanics are integrally tied to the tier of basing a unit has.

AT Questoris Knights have been 'Temporarily out of Stock Online' in the GW EU webstore for a veeery long time now. Might be a coincidence of course, but maybe they are being repackaged for the new game? Or even included in the starter box, even though I'm not aware of any rumours claiming that.

I imagine they are going to do pure infantry/tanks in the starter and then later down the line a compendium will be a tack on purchase to integrate Aircraft and Titans.

You can't read anything out of stock shortages right now, gw can't make enough stock to keep everything topped up!

Personally I doubt people will use a long name instead of epic, most versions of epic aren't called epic after all :D

I'd like to see the tallarn game but I think that was designed as pure tanks thanks to the life eater!
