Come think of it, I even made a couple a while back. My guess was they could used as Gravis lieutenants or something (which still aren't a thing? That's also weird)

You're probably right, but Gravis with big two-handed eviscerator chainswords and (heavy?) bolt pistols in holsters would at least look awesome on the table :)

Kind of like not-yet-veteran-enough Bladeguard, but with a faaar less knightly mein to appeal to the "wilder" chapters.

Especially alongside that one Gravis Captain we got with the sword (Who I had, at one point, replaced his sword with an eviscerator chainsword.  Then I switched it back lol).  Would be a really slick looking squad.

Now that the datasheets are up, I have a (possibly stupid) question. Am I correct in reading it as if the Ancient's rules only affects himself? That surely can't be right, can it?

Since attaching leaders to units happens at the muster armies step the ancient and their bodyguard are one unit for all purposes. So the whole squad gets the +1OC. The fnp is however for the ancient only.

Thanks, I knew I must be missing something. However afaict the wording is exactly the same for both rules (and the Librarian’s inv save, for another example), so how do we know what carries over and what doesn’t? With the captain there is a clear distinction between unit/model, but I’m not seeing this elsewhere.

Psychic hood has the "This Unit" wording while Unbreakable Resolve has the "This model" wording in addition to either units conditions.

Ha! I somehow completely missed that, even while reading it several times. Thanks for taking the time

Man, I hope GW are really on it with "This unit" and "this model" distictions on datasheets.

Indeed, it needs to be crystal clear what abilities transfer and what dont, it should have been colour coded:yes:

I think it's prone to misreading.

If anything it's more easy to read, since the attaching of characters is no longer something that technically happens in the battle.  Since leaders are part of setting up your army, you should have all of those distinctions laid out and figured out ahead of time.

Keep it civil

Minorly off topic but, with the preorders going up tomorrow, how much should i be paying for just the marine half? I usually just buy the full boxes but with the discounts basically making it slightly more than a full priced Leviathan box, i really don't want to pay that price and frankly i want to focus more on my marines this time.

Amazing how terrible the Ancient still is.

i love the ancient, he looks like a veteran without also looking weird (looking at you bladeguard ancient), and the reasoning behind having the banner as a campaign banner makes sense too - each company has one company banner, when smaller parts of companies go to war they wont always have that with them, but having campaign specific ones makes sense!

Honestly, early on most splitters will probably want half of GWs RRP. But for me I'd consider picking up a half when it would be 40% of the set with the flgs discount. So between 80/100 euros in my case. With the caveat I'm not too fussed about this set.

You'd be best buying the set and selling what you don't want rather than hoping for a good deal on eBay. Don't encourage the scalpers.

Yes, the model is great, but I assume the comment was about rules. Ancients are cool models, but rules for them have been lacklustre for a while.

To be fair, not every box splitter is a scalper. Especially on local marketplaces you can get good deals. Though :cuss: scalpers of course.

First marine half in a good while I'm giving a miss. Not because its bad by any stretch, but because I'm quite saturated with marines already. I see myself picking up the characters (minus the witch) and the speeder... maybe the van vets if I unload some other minis I already have.

I imagine the rules will be different once the new codex comes out?

I wonder if the ancient will be one of the "support" characters. We're still to see exactly how this new change pans out.

Only really want the Captain and the Land Speeder, so the entire box doesn't seem worth it.

Also indifferent towards the new random armor mark Intercessors. Definitely a minority opinion here, but I prefer the clean and uniform look of the current Primaris range. Heck, I don't even mix and match the armor marks of my 30k marines.
