The first of, possibly, many. Assuming that I don't go insane painting quartered red and yellow... -
Hi folks, So since I'm back in the Ultramarines' fold, I thought I would start a new thread to chronicle my battles and modeling/painting progress. My painting has, previously, been pretty damn slow and done in fits and starts; but now that Contrast is here, I'm hoping to get my models up to snuff much more quickly and efficiently. As for battle reports, I'll be joining up with my local community's league within the next month (possibly even next week) so should be able to get some reports in quite soon! Hopefully they'll be entertaining, at the very least, and might even give someone some ideas for their own lists. I'll keep this post updated with links to my battle reports as they come out, just for reference. I won't do that for my painting progress, though I might get some group shots in for here. I shall apologise up front for the potato quality of my photos: they're from my phone camera, which is hardly of the highest caliber! Battle Report Links: League Game #1, vs Astartes (Ultramarines Successors) [22nd October 2019] League Game #2; vs Nurgle Daemons [29th October 2019]

heya all, i'm mainly over in Ad-Mech and Astra Mil forums but went on holidays recently and got some Primaris Marines (push togethers), now at the time we went and visited Movie World and my young son found much joy in buying merchandise of Harry potter and house Gryffindor.... suffice to say when i was sitting down at home upon our return and was pouring over codex armies pictures etc...ultra's,DA's,BA's,wolves .... on and on,whilst doing this my son came up and sat with me looking too and to his suprise he saw the colours of red and Yellow Quartered and immediately said "Gryffindor!! ... paint yours like those one's daddy . when i mentioned to him they were "Howling Griffons" he said no they're "Howling Gryffindors"... and that was the start of this Plog... (now i'm terribly slow and indecisive as a painter and i have 2 no wait... 3, other armies slowly taking shape so this is here to motivate me to work in with my other stuff and slowly get a small Primaris force done for now,of which my son will most likely use(borrow) when he eventually starts to play as well.) Some questions on Howling Griffons! - i looked up the info etc etc - codex chapter that is pretty much the same as ultra's but the only difference i found was they don't display company markings right?... probably a good thing as i think 4th Co rims would look a bit meh with all that red n yellow anyways... so in theory, playing them in games would be same as Ultra's correct? do we used the same named characters too? ... also what helmet markings do we use for say captains LT's Sarge's etc...same as ultra's? are there decals out there for em? or should i splurge on some of those pop goes the monkey -shapeways emblems that fit right onto the pad!?... if anyone else has some info/enlightenment on howling griffons..Primaris Marines or just simply playing Ultra's it would be appreciated. i will be painting up the Intercessors and Reivers that i got when we went away...lets get those done before i talk more and then go from there below is the first test min i did to show my son basically what his (our ) army will look like when it's done. it's had highlights done and will be based this weekend so hopefully Monday i'll show our first finished HG Primaris Marine... Cheers, Mithril

Hi folks, getting back into 40k for 8th and since it has reignited my desire to play I decided to build a force I'd always wanted to do, for both background and aesthetic reasons, yet never had an actual reason to spend my limited money purchasing. So now, it's time for me to begin down the long, grinding path of quartered red and yellow. I welcome all comments and constructive criticism (as well as any tips on parking straight lines!) I have little progress right now, as I've spent only a few hours actually painting, but here is the first Tactical Marine with some proper colours (apologies for the crappy pictures, my phone is the only camera I have and isn't amazing): Thanks for checking out my humble painting, and I hope you will enjoy my adventure! Cheers, Tom.

[Photos have been edited because the Inquisition prefers thumbscrews to thumbnails.] Hi! I'm new here, so I hope I'm doing this right. My plan is to use this as a plog for all my 40k projects involving humans. I'm using the term in the broad sense, so that includes abhumans, posthumans, posthumans with tentacles, etc. I figure if the Imperium can't tell the difference between Dark Eldar and Craftworld Eldar, why should I bother keeping track of all their species subcategories? This begins with a cautionary tale. Back in the days of 3rd ed, I realized that I basically had a small Space Marines army sitting in my bits box, so I figured I might as well paint them up and a secondary or lender army. I picked up a few more models to flesh them out a bit, and painted... well, most of them. And then a lot of years passed. Relatively recently, I decided to finish off the army I had originally painted most of almost 20 years ago. I painted the handful of models I hadn't gotten to. I touched up the squad and chapter badges. I felt pretty good about it. The last thing I needed to do was finish up some freehand work on the Rhinos, but I thought, "Hey, wouldn't it be cool if I tried some weathering effects?" And it was pretty cool, so I thought, "Hey wouldn't it be cool if I applied the same weathering effects to the whole army?" ... So this is the story of how I took my finished, fully painted army, declared it unfinished, and started repainting it, because I make poor life choices. Here's the first Tactical Squad and their Rhino. http://i.imgur.com/tL3dS7P.jpg http://i.imgur.com/O0wmZLS.jpg http://i.imgur.com/qo5KxkE.jpg http://i.imgur.com/rf6GsSC.jpg http://i.imgur.com/YejZx0v.jpg http://i.imgur.com/PGZ2lBy.jpg http://i.imgur.com/6g410hJ.jpg http://i.imgur.com/BR3Lx6l.jpg http://i.imgur.com/9dUudsu.jpg http://i.imgur.com/Jwkfdd2.jpg One thing that's been fun about this is remembering how much I learned from painting these models the first time. I discovered translucent layering as an alternative to drybrushing. I realized that I hate waterslide transfers, and that I'm better off just painting Chapter badges and other details by hand. (Some of the models have decals on them which I painted over before eventually swearing them off for good.) The paper banners are a relic of their time. I'd planned on leaving them alone, but... I had an idea. (Banners loosely based on the illuminated manuscripts!) I'm compromising with myself: I won't replace the banners with elaborate sculpted ones until I've updated all the paintjobs. Questions, comments, and xenocidal threats are welcome.
