I've been a long time lurker on here (since 2007 I believe) and finally grew some stones and signed up properly. I'm using this thread to document my return to 40k after not touching anything for 17 years. What will follow is my slow progress on my own Astartes chapter; the Ardent Swords. First up will be the chapter master and honour. The chapter master is still waiting for some bits to arrive so he'll probably be postponed to January at this rate. Hope you all enjoy watching my journey back into the grim darkness. First up; the honour guard. These chaps are built on the reiver base with extra bits stuck on. First time doing hand transplants with these guys and was more fiddly than expected.

Here's the commander of my (not finalised) D.I.Y. chapter's 2nd company, as denoted by the yellow (in this case gold) detailing on the chest. I do not currently have a logo for the chapter that I am happy with.-

Been a couple years since I've played 40k, or even modeled anything. I came back to the B&C and saw Maverick Prime's conversion challenge and thought to myself: now that's a capital idea- and a heck of a way to get back into the hobby. A supply runs and hours at the table later and I remember how hard conversion work is. But I digress, here are some extremely work in progress shots of my chaplain for the "Litanies and Legends" conversion challenge. Comments, critique and criticism are encouraged and appreciated. The base model is Ivanus Enkomi of the Minotaurs chapter from the Forge World model company. The head has been replaced with a metal chaplain helmet, the feet will be replaced with the armored boots from the same chopped up metal model. The minotaur/bull head on the chest has been shaved down and slightly green stuffed to resemble a human sternum (figured I might as well considering the chest armor is modeled after a rib cage). A side image of the chaplain conversion work in progress. Just a small detail to note but I green stuffed on a small squareish carpenter style nail into the purity seal. Wax can only adhere to a surface so well, especially something like armor- having it physically nailed into the surface of the armor makes a little more sense in my opinion. According to my fianc

I've decided to get started on a preheresy legion. But why start with RAF troops when I can lead the project with something more... epic. ** So people know, yes I'm inspired by/shamelessly stealing this guy's work: http://www.tanksandtrolls.co.uk/40k%20Stormbird%20Troop%20Transport.htm I start with This: http://fc02.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2013/364/c/0/stormbird_02_by_kasumidoll-d701zv1.jpg And then add That: http://fc01.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2013/364/2/8/stormbird_01_by_kasumidoll-d701zmf.jpg Then add These: http://fc01.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2013/364/4/a/stormbird_03_by_kasumidoll-d701zyj.jpg And maybe end up with something looking like Thus: http://fc00.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2013/364/5/e/stormbird_04_by_kasumidoll-d70201r.jpg Then I just need lots of plasticard, some other fiddly bits and some legion etched brass things. On a side note, does anyone have a good tutorial for fixing all the broken door hinges?

Hello again ye hallowed halls of the B&C! Seems I did a disappearing act again in my previous topic. Long story short I started to hate the models I painted up for Legio Victorum, I rushed them and I made alot of mistakes building them. I still have them, and they may yet provide fodder for my new project: LEGIO ASCALON I've been plugging away at this guy for about a week now, really forcing myself to take my time. Mucked up the melta cannon a bit, I will attempt to rectify. Should have the VMB stand in from Battlebling any day now, looking forward to that, and waiting on some basing materials. I got the Precept Maniple Battle force, and I had a Warbringer and this Reaver. So that's the current build log. Working towards a Perpetua Maniple of two Reavers and two Warbringers then finishing up with the two Warhounds and the Warlord. After that...maybe a Warmaster? Thanks for looking!

Howdy! After years of stalling, doing research, lurking, and general procrastination I have finally put brush to model and begun my first army. I have painted a bit on and off, and after a couple of abortive attempts I have finally settled on a scheme that looks good and is easy to replicate. Sure, they look like Blood Angels or Word Bearers, but I am happy with them thus far. This army will be my DIY Chapter, the Red Fangs. They are both in their final stages, they just need decals and weathering on their shoulder pads and finally basing. First, pictures, then a question/favor. The test guy, and first member of my first tactical squad, the picture represents the red well: The second guy, finished tonight: And the two together: The Images are shoddy at best, but not bad for smartphone pics. Fluff to come, as that is my thing. Now for the question, what kind of bases should I go for? Starship deck? Urban? Thanks for any C&C in advance! *EDIT* Just realized the bolters need to be drilled! DOH!
