i was wondering if you could help me, becuase iam not sure if the legs work on my scaled marine are they too chunky? and also do the knee pads work or would it be better to sculpt them

Looking good.

The thighs look a little chunky, but not enough to warrant re-sculpting. I think the knees need filling in to give the greaves a more solid appearance (the thin edge makes it too obvious a conversion), it'll also balance out the thighs making them look less chunky.

Overall, I really like this. I'm a fan of big/solid bulky legs

Could you tell me how you did the GS shoulder strap for the Chap book

Simple. Roll out a thin sausage of GS, flatten it out on something it will peel off of later (like the plastic the GS comes wrapped in). Make sure the thinness is consistent. When it's cured just use a scalpel to cut the excess of the edges and give a nice sharp finish. Because it's so thin it can easily be wrapped around things when fully cured.

hey lamenter

heres my space marine up to date (with slightly thinner thighs:) do you have any more good advice on this?

i think the body looks a little funny where it joins the legs, what you reckon.

i decided to sculpt the knee pads in the end. and i stuck these temporary weapons becuase he has no hands.

thanks again

The legs are looking much, much better. The greaves are solid!

I think you'll find a chunkier belt and filled in abdomen will fix this guy nicely. Great job!

Bit of an update for you all.

This is the start of a custom bike for an Actual Scale Salamanders character (will count as Khan). The rider is currently in bits, but the main structure of the bike is built as you can see. The exhausts might be a little bit flared. The whole thing is about half as long again as a regular bike, hence the need for a custom base. The front of the bike is a little rough but I'll be sculpting a large imperial eagle on it as soon as I can get some more GS. The plastics are a combination of Ork and Space Marine bikes and I think the exhausts may have come from a Baneblade (I'm not too sure).

I gotta admit I've never been a big fan of the plastic Space Marine bikes. Not sure what it is about them, maybe they're too "blocky" or something they've just never appealed. I'm genuinely surprised by how well this one's come together (note the rider is temporarily tacked together, but he'll probably end up with the sword).

Here's the finished Chaplain Durendin - Guardian of Names

He carries and protects one of the Grey Knights sacred tomes, a book that records the name of each and every Grey Knight to have died protecting mankind. If that's not a role for a Chaplain I don't know what is.

Also, how far along are you with the counts-as Khan on bike? I'd love to see some more pictures of that one as well ^^

The bike's on hold for the time being unfortunately.

Here's a couple of the greens I've been working on to be cast. I'm sculpting the legs, torsos and shoulder pads. The torsos are being sculpted directly onto the legs but I will most likely cut them off before casting.

I have several of these in progress and plan to make 3 variations of marks 5, 6 and 7, with one or two variations of the earlier marks.

Thanks guys. :HQ:

Just a quick update for you of a mockup of the finished Mark V greens. Two more and I'll start working on making a few casts of the greens. Certainly my favourite of the Mark Vs I've made to date.

That certainly looks impressive! It's a very Gladiatorial pose - as if he's waiting to recieve a charging enemy.

How do you get the GS looking so smoothe? In some places, it's almost as if you have polished it.

I take it you have had better luck with the computer - got a new one yet or still borrowing the laptop?

Just comes down to a high ratio of yellow to blue in the greenstuff and a soft clay shaper, nothing more.

Unfortunately I'm stuck with a steam powered ibook. May aswell wait a little while and see if Apple release a new iMac model soon (as it's about due now).

Thanks for the tip. I usually try using vaseline or similar, but that gets a little too messy at times.

Well, good luck with the new iMac (why does that sound like hair removal cream?) - would love to help there, but those gorgeous Blood Angels on your site are quite a bit out of my price range.

Here are the first casts of the recent greens I made, there's a few small air bubbles here and there, but most of them are because of all the rivets. Unfortunately the glossy white resin doesn't photograph too well but I figured I'd show them with a couple of other minis to give a good idea of size comparisons.

The greens for casting are having to take second place to other projects for a little while but in the meantime, here's where I am so far with the Mark II legs. It's in the standard Space Marine pose but still needs detailing up with lots of rivets and trim. After it is cast I might use this as the basis of a Mark III, as they are virtually the same except for the addition of added plating on the front.
