Sons of Malice, 'Batko Blacks' 7th Company - a WIP project

Er, your marines look awesome, they lack nothing in their awesomeness! I have never implied or directly stated otherwise :D

You be careful buddy, Batko's agents are watching you..

ANYWAY! Part of my LPC vow is like, totally almost finished! :tu:

Presenting 1st Squad Bhagat of the 7th Company, Sons of Malice, "Batko's Blacks":

Tactical Squad Bhagat has proven its worth in campaign after campaign, including the 7-day defense of the gates at the Battle of the Hornet’s Nest. Led by the relatively young, stoical warrior Brother-Sergeant Nestor Bhagat, the squad works efficiently and pragmatically, unhindered by the thirst for glory that some of the older, pre-Malal Brothers of the chapter still have from the Imperial conditioning they received as youths. Brother Bhagat has time and time again refused to be promoted, knowing that his place is as a line-officer. His soldiers respect him and he respects them. Due to his pragmatism he has refused his squad to carry a banner as it would distract from the battle objectives, instead opting to carry the squad symbol and heraldry on his own power pack.

Full squad:

Close up of his powerpack banner and showing the head of aforementioned Blood Angels champion. The roman numeral 1 represents it being 1st squad, the Skull and Lightning symbol is the heraldry of Squad Bhagat and note the shield on the bottom left of the banner, representing honours won at the defense of the gates at the Battle of the Hornet's Nest:

C&C very welcome! I need help deciding what colour the Chaos helm on de Beauvoire's base should be. Anyone? And how do the bases look?

Hot damn man! Love that white. I don't if I've said this before but due to your amazing SOM I'm making my Chaos Marines project (after I finish my Salamanders LPC) Sons Of Malice. You've inspired me so much.

P.S. I do have Marines Malevolent in the works but I just cant see doing another Codex: Space Marines army right after another. I've had so many ideas kicking around but SOM are definitely next.

I'm lovin' Sgt. Bhagat; The modified Mk. IV plate looks outstanding. -Sigh- It's too bad you're on the other side of the world, man. I'd love to see your Sons of Malice and my Marines Malevolent on the same table. Keep up the awesome work!

Oh man I think that would be too amazing for one area of the planet to take haha

Wow guys this is very high praise indeed! I'm very flattered

@hushrong Thank you, it's about time right? But yeah, thanks for the suggestion, any specific reason why Word Bearers?

@Mr.Malevolent I'm honoured that you've decided to follow the True Path of Malal because of me and my humble army :turned:

@1000heathens Thank you dude, your Marines Malevolent are absolutely fantastic and despite their dogged loyalty to the False Emperor and his imperialist ideals, my Sons would be honoured to stand next to them (or across from them, rather) Sgt Bhagat's armour was actually inspired by one of your guys with the Mk. III (?) armour from the Death Company box, before I knew it was from the Death Company box :P

Thank you all so much for your comments! They really inspire me to keep this project going!

I think Word Bearers would be a preferred enemy for their devout worship of all the mainstream Chaos gods. Which Malal is opposed to with extreme prejudice. Any chaos legion or warband would fit though, it's not as if the SoM have a lot of friends.

Congrats on winning the conversion challenge by the way.

Thank you! :D

@hushrong I hear dat, but I'm going less for fluff-good colours and more for something that would work aesthetically aswell. They're all painted in very warm colours so I think I might want to do it in something cool, and then I'm also gonna change the eye lenses to cold blue instead of the orange. So what Chaos Legions or Warbands are painted in cold colours? Green, or blue or something?

Edit: If anyone's interested, I've started a story about my Sons of Malice, I'd appreciate it if you had the time to stop by and have a look! :D

Whatever happened to that last assault marine?

Well my good man, it's about time. Yes, it's about time I show an update of all those scraps and pieces that I've been teasing with since the beginning of this thread. Basically, I just want to show y'all my almost finished (modelling-wise anyway) Scout squad and Assault squad :P (don't mention the Terminators..)

Assault squad, who I'm considering making my berzerkers fluff-wise, thus led by Chaplain Durutti who's also been worked on:

http://i1043.photobucket.com/albums/b440/GooseVonMoose/ProjectUpdate001.jpg

The Nameless Assault Marine based off of 1000heathens and Typewriter's suggestions (I think?):

http://i1043.photobucket.com/albums/b440/GooseVonMoose/ProjectUpdate002.jpg

Brother-Sergeant Illich, who will be given a spear powerweapon. Any thoughts?

Updated Chaplain Durutti:

And then I'd like to present Cell 21c-7 and it's four members:

http://i1043.photobucket.com/albums/b440/GooseVonMoose/ProjectUpdate005.jpg

Brother-Operative Buddha (three guesses where I got that name from ;) )

http://i1043.photobucket.com/albums/b440/GooseVonMoose/ProjectUpdate006.jpg

Brother-Operative Haemon:

http://i1043.photobucket.com/albums/b440/GooseVonMoose/ProjectUpdate007.jpg

Brother-Operative Kilroy:

http://i1043.photobucket.com/albums/b440/GooseVonMoose/ProjectUpdate008.jpg

Brother-Operative Kharon:

http://i1043.photobucket.com/albums/b440/GooseVonMoose/ProjectUpdate009.jpg

So, any comments? :)

If you're talking about the rolling marine pose, the idea was mine :D

I think the skulls on the chaplain's chest should be bulked down or replaced entirely, as they detract attention from him.

The one marine still looks like he's scratching with the hilt of the chainsword ;)

And the power spear is brilliant :) I look forward to seeing these marine (and scouts) finished, being quite awesome as they are :Elite:

@DarkApostleThirst I have to admit I didn't really understand what you meant when you were talking about the rolling marine.. There was jumping, and arms and all kinds of confusing stuff :) besides how would a Brother-Marine with a jumpack strapped to him roll? Anyway, about the Chaplain, I saw a kitbashed Chaplain with skulls strapped to him in the same way and I thought it was awesome so I'm keeping them. Besides, I think they really work for his image; a grim but ultimately violent and brutal warrior who leads by example. Coupled with the Sons of Malice's propensity to take trophies, it's only natural I think.

Brother Butt-Scratcher will have to live with that forever..

@Mr.Malevolent Thank you! I'm doing these just for fun but I think they're mostly game-legal for the Space Marine codex, but honestly I don't know, cuz I don't have it :P

@Low_K Thank you so much man, I'm glad to hear it!

And now, a minor update, to justify bumping my thread:

Splashed some paint on Brother-Captain Laerza:

C&C welcome! :D

His look reminds me of a character from the Ultramarine movie.

So, really bad? :D

No way. I liked how that character had skulls strapped across his torso like your chaplain does. It is a cool look that the current metal minis from GW lack.

@hushrong Ah well thank you my man! Twasn't my idea but thanks for the compliment anyway :)

@1000heathens Thank you, he's sliced and diced his fair share of Loyalist dogs, yes.

Anyway, minor update, just to show you guys what I've been working on lately:

First, the Herald of Anarchy, my soon to be Sons of Malice Sorceror:

http://i1043.photobucket.com/albums/b440/GooseVonMoose/SmallUpdate001.jpg

http://i1043.photobucket.com/albums/b440/GooseVonMoose/SmallUpdate002.jpg

I'm quite proud of the cloak as it's turning out pretty smooth, I'm just not entirely used to picturing cloth movement, so if anyone sees anything odd, please tell me!

And some quick changes made to my assault marines:

Sergeant, now with a spear and shield. I know it's a bit bent but hey, doesn't mean it don't work :P

http://i1043.photobucket.com/albums/b440/GooseVonMoose/SmallUpdate004.jpg

Landing marine. I've decided to give my Assault Marines snouts sorta as they can only become Assault/Berzerker Marines by defeating one of the fabled Twilight Bears on their homeworld of Scelus, so they fashion their helms in likeness to this ferocious predator to strike fear in the hearts of their opponents. Phew, got a bit dramatic there.. anyway:

http://i1043.photobucket.com/albums/b440/GooseVonMoose/SmallUpdate005.jpg

And finally the newest member, Brother-Berzerker Gogol, who has made an oath of vengeance to never cut his hair until he has got his revenge on those pesky Imperial Fists (that's my excuse to model dreads :P ) :

http://i1043.photobucket.com/albums/b440/GooseVonMoose/SmallUpdate006.jpg

http://i1043.photobucket.com/albums/b440/GooseVonMoose/SmallUpdate008.jpg

And then a little sneak peak at my newest Tac Sergeant:

http://i1043.photobucket.com/albums/b440/GooseVonMoose/SmallUpdate009.jpg

I'm reading Helsreach at the moment and I couldn't resist making a knight ;)

Comments and criticism welcome! And anything else you feel like writing is cool :(

The sorceror terrifies me. Don't add a jaw, unless it's very wide open to make it even more horrifying.

If the spear is bent, it simply means it as seen combat enough to bend it  But why is the head painted and the rest... not so much? Do you paint models by parts, and simply blue tac them to take pictures?

The snout thing is nice, gives them a bit of individuality

Who needs an excuse to make dreads? Don't write any fluff reason, it's cool enough not to need one.

It appears the head makes the knight ;)

WOW WOW WOW Captain Laerza rocks!!!!!!!! I want him in my army even if he is a damn traitor! :P

Seriously I love the modelling it really does rock.....I want to echo what someone said earlier though and state that you could make an alternative gun holder to the goblin as a pack of female slaves I think he looks like he could potentially have women (maybe even Daemonettes) swooning over him!

The Assault Squad also looks really cool my friend.

Which brings me onto the latest update the Knightly sergeant is brilliant where's the head from? Loving the beard. Can't wait to see him completed. and as for the Herald of Anarchy ouch he is scary B) What's he going to be carrying in the other hand?

Quick question for you given the Scouts you've modelled - will you be using this as a Codex SM or CSM force? Sorry if you've already answered.

And keep up the good work ;)

@DarkApostleThirst Thanks for the comments man! And yeah I wasn't planning on adding a jaw :D I think it looks suitably scary like this. But ugh no I hate even the idea of painting models like that! For me it's mostly about the putting together, the day I start painting parts before glueing them on is the day I lose my passion for converting, and it will be a sad day indeed.. -sigh- But anyway! It's painted because it was previously used on Sergeant Bhagat mk1 before he got his make-over. And for the rest, thank you! Though I like my fluff reason for the dreads, so I'm keeping it ;)

@Bolt16 Thank you for your comments! Hahaha I'm gonna have to reiterate that I really have no idea why he would have women following him around when he's not got functional genitalia and/or he's not a follower of Slaneesh  Maybe some day in the future when I'm bored and I've finished my army I'll do it just for you and Brother Melice ;) The knight's head is from the old Empire handgunners that you got in the starter set (my brother collected them) so I just chopped it right off. As for the Herald, you'll just have to wait and see..

The scouts... I dunno. I am not really planning to play with this army, but if I play it with Space Marines, I'll use them as scouts and if I play with Chaos Marines I'll not use them at all, since I think my army is legal for both codices (except for the Terminators with power weapons..?), though, not having them, I'm not sure.

That knight is awesome. I love him =D

Very nice and smooth armour as well. I will need to pratice a bit more to get such nice hard angles. I guess you made it in 3-4 steps? I always find it hard to picture in advance how it will look so I make it all at once, and it is kinda hard to get it good-looking.
