Sons of Malice, 'Batko Blacks' 7th Company - a WIP project

Thank you man! :)

I don't know how I managed, but the armour was actually made in 2 steps. First the overlapping plates and then the collar, but yeah it takes some practice and I think having metal tools really helps give hard edges. I have the same problem though, I rarely start a greestuff project that needs several layers and days to make cuz I just don't have the patience, but I'm slowly learning it :P

That sorcerer is wicked looking, I may steal the design, if I ever get around to making a variant I shall give credit.

The only issue I see is the seeming lack of highlights on the black parts of the power armor, but the battle damage seems to perform a similar function, just in a different way. I'd suggest doing some very slight highlights, then follow up with your battle damage.

Still some awesome looking marines and conversions you've got there.

@Mr.Malevolent Yesindeed I have, sir ;) I'm looking forward to seeing some more of your dudes!

@Janitor101 Thank you very much! And thank future you for referencing to me :P that's all I ask, none of this silly IP bullcrap. As for the black armour and highlights, I've always had a problem with highlights on black armour, cuz in my opinion it's just not very realistic with matt black armour. I do drybush it with a dark grey though. We'll see where I take it from there. Maybe I'll highlight a bit more.. I dunno..

Anyway! And update is coming; I've started painting my Chaplain, but I am in the process of re-installing an old favourite game of mine; Republic Commando :( so it might take me some time to make anything worthy to look at. Inshallah it works. If not, FML.

First off, super cool and creative stuff here. I always dig the little things and those scouts are too much! My favorite is the guy with what looks to be a cigar, couple that with the masks and they make for perfect chaos scouts. Nice cloak too, some advice I learned the hard way, avoid the "rolling over" look on the bottom left, it somehow always looks forced and makes for a funky highlight area I find hard to paint. Stay away from those games and keep up the updates, inspiring stuff.

Quick question, how do you do the slightly rusty looking battle damage on the cream/off white/white portions of the power armor? I figure it'd be useful for my Dorn Heresy World Eaters.

W00t I love comments! :P

@smallvictory Thank you very much for the advice. I think I've decided to lose the fold thing, cuz yeah, it looks a bit odd. About the Scouts, thank you, I'm quite proud of them. Especially the A-team "cigar" guy so thank you very much.

@hushrong Thank you, I've got some ideas but I can't really decide what to do. At first I thought a giant meat-cleaver-esque axe-head on a long staff would look alright, but then, remembering that he is, in fact, a sorceror, I'm thinking of a sort of Stormseer force staff top of like a goatskull and some hair and feathers etc etc. We shall see.

@-Max- I'm actually not so sure about my leaping raptor. I messed up a bit cuz he's, like, jumping sideways which is just weird and awkward positioning and I seemed to have used like a litre of glue cuz his torso and legs are literally one piece now :P so if you're gonna do that, make sure you twist the torso enough to be facing the way he's leaping, or suffer the annoying consequences. But thank you for the comment!

@Janitor101 If you're referring to what I think you are then it's just Ogryn Flesh wash on the edges of the armour, sloppily done. It's actually so visible cuz laziness on my part, but I'm glad it looks like rust :teehee:

Unfortunately the game(s) have proven to attractive to ignore so all I have today is a small update. Just got some paint done on my Chaplain, and I'm not sure about the red Powerfist. What do you guys think? (P.S. This counts as a WiP update of my LPC vow!)

Remember hockey-stick guy? Well he's turned into hammer-guy and is finally basecoated! I've also decided to give my Terminators wrist-bolters, inspired by -Max-'s:

And for all you nay-sayers! Looks like he's scratching his butt huh?! Well how bout now! As you can see he's actually touching down carefully and has got his hand out behind him for balance. So nah. :

And finally, the Squad Heraldry bearer for 2nd Squad, led by the more conservative Tac Sergeant Knight-Facé:

Comments and criticism appreciated! :tu:

Wahey! Been waiting for an update on the Chaplainy guy, hes looking great.

I had a go at sculpting some robes for a scratch built librarian dude, and ive gotta say my respect for green stuff sculpting has gone way up, its so much harder than it looks!

Once you slap some paint on it the not bad scultping becomes horrid mess, but yours looks great. Props to you man.

Nah, I was talking about the 'chips' on the white portions of the armor.

And my opinion about the powerfist is lose the red, just make it look like he pulled someones intestines out.

@MagicMan Thank you very much! I'm not entirely sure where my not-crappiness came from to be honest, before starting this army all I could do was fill gaps and make passable fur  Hopefully it'll look alright painted..

@bearden441 Well I'm afraid I'm not much help here. The brass rod I used was bought using a small piece of brass rod I had bought like 6 years ago to measure it, and at that time I had really just picked out a size that fit a Space Marine fist. With a ruler it measures at just over 1mm in diametre. I hope that helps!

@Vairocanum Thank you, I'll try!

@Janitor101 Riiight, I know what you mean. Dang :P the chips are painted with Scorched Brown or Dark Flesh and then highlighted with a line of pure Skull White under it. Though if I had Bestial Brown, I would use that.

As for the powerfist, I think I agree. I'm gonna try it out with blood-spattered white kinda like Batko's fist. Thank you for the comment.

I go away for a few days and look what happens...

You paint the chaplain :D Very nice, but if you keep the red make it darker, to blend in better.

The marine still looks like he's scratching :) If he was trying to balance himself, his arms would be spread out...

Hockey stick guy is still awesome, as is the new bolter-marine guy :D

Depends entirely on which way he needs balancing. If he was falling to the right or left he'd be holding out his arms that way, as it is, he's compensating for the forward thrust of the jumpack by putting his hand and chainsword out behind him.

Pwned.

Pwned.

Even then, he would put his arms out to the side - it puts the gravity on your center regardless, thus reducing how far you tilt in any direction.

Counter-pwned ;)

I'm gonna perform a combo breaker and not 'counter-pwn' at all, and merely ask if you would put your hand behind your back while wearing a jetpack of any type? Also, is he wearing a helmet with a pig snout?

Alright people have to get off my back on this guy lol he had an itchy butt and is attempting to scratch it. Whatever.

I think he looks totally fine, and I am still pleased with his pose. Although I agree it could look like he's scratching his butt, that was not my intention and to me he still looks like he's landing. If you guys don't agree, that's too bad cuz it's my damn army. So there.

As for the pig snout thang. I have an explanation for it earlier in my thread. In order to become a member of the Assault/Berserker Squad, you have to go unarmed into the wilderness on Scelus (their homeworld) and kill a Twilight Bear (copyright Mr.Malevolent). Once you've done that you've proven yourself crazy and badass enough to go to war with the Berserkers. Their jump packs and occasionally their armour is then covered in the furs of the Twilight Bear and their helm is fashioned after its fearsome visage.

Fine by me, I think he's so much better as comic relief - you have to have a miniature who does that in every army, it just makes it so much more fun to work with :P

As an example... How many have this guy in their armies? http://i584.photobucket.com/albums/ss290/A...asmaweapons.jpg

I know I do :tu:

Well I won't :o the plasma thing be cute, but I'm aiming to make a serious army :P

Anyway. Update time! I've worked my butt off and finished 5 models who were at various levels of finishedness, so this is gonna be a big one:

(NOTE, all models seen with either a red rope around their wrist or thighs, or with red crosses somewhere on their armour were part of a combat mission that saw almost the entire Sons of Malice taskforce wiped out by a savage Night Lords ambush. The survivors commemorate the fallen and their quest for vengeance with either a red cross or a red rope tied to their armour)

First, I've finally given Commander Batko a base. I realised after I glued him to it that the giant rock he's standing on is attached to one of dem tiny bases. But I don't mind because 1) it saves me the bigger base for something else and 2) it would visually not have made any difference at all. So without further ado, for your viewing pleasure, Batko on his giant rock:

Secondly, my good man Laerza is finito:

Brother-Marine Barto; Champion, and Standard Bearer of 2nd Squad (note he is not the Sergeant, and his banner isn't done as I haven't made up the back story for 2nd Squad yet):

http://i1043.photobucket.com/albums/b440/GooseVonMoose/Update008.jpg

These next two are part of my LPC vow.

Brother-Berzerker Unnamed. I thought his helm turned out particularly fearsome, although some detail seems to have been lost in the picture:

http://i1043.photobucket.com/albums/b440/GooseVonMoose/Update006.jpg

And Brother-Berzerker Gogol, who has not be entirely finished (forgive me) because I haven't really been in a face/dreadlocks-painting mood lately:

Hurray. C&C very welcome gents! And ladies!

Batko turned out great man. I'm glad the tribal tats worked so well on him. That kneeling marine is pretty gnarly too, keep it up, brother!

Side note: You planinng on a dreadnought at some point?

Edit: Crappy spelling, sorry.

Very nice, my friend. I noticed Batko did not survive the mission :D

Basing is done to your fairly high standard, so ;)

Hmmmm, perhaps make the snout part a different color than the rest of the helmet, so as to make the detail stand out?

As for the standard bearer's fluff, since he's a survivor of the mission, so why not have had him lead the escape, his banner providing a rallying point, which survived despite the Night Lord's best attempts to destroy said point?
