I love your take on the III legion.

Thanks mate! Hoping to get some more done soon :)

Along with Captain Semper you have easily the best Emperor's Children on the forum.  These new Veterans certainly look the part, great, subtle conversion work one each one so far.

High praise indeed! Thanks for the vote of confidence :)

Very nice work on the Veterans, as usual. They really look the part and I'm looking forward to seeing them painted up in that lovely colour scheme of yours. Great stuff! :smile.:

Also, the press molding seems to be working out well for you. Any particular tips or tricks that you'd care to share?

Thanks dude! The press moulding is pretty straight forward. I use a product called Oyumaru, it is super easy to use and can be reused almost indefinitely. Check out this youtube video if you haven't used Oyumaru before. Apart from that, I don't really have any tricks or tips. I pretty much follow the same process shown in the video :)

My jaw has dropped...

... just wow

Thanks mate! Good luck with your own EC mini :)

Heh, I'm sure you've heard how lovely your III legion bros are enough times for today :biggrin.:

Have you decided on a weapon for the Sarge yet? I vote for something a little different like an axe or hammer. Those are my two favs.

Hahaha, the III Legion never gets tired of hearing how lovely they are :P I'm still trying to decide on the sergeants weapons. I was considering an axe and I have a pretty nice axe bit in mind, but the Martial Pride rule (having to challenge) has made the choice much tougher.

Smart use of press molds! I love that last guy, looks like he came straight out of Visions.

Thanks dude! I'm trying to make each dude individual and inline with the III Legion character.

Great work!

Thanks mate :)

I've built another Legionary and the Sergeant. I've also gone back and added more detail to some of the other Legionaries.

I went with the rule of cool and gave my sergeant an axe...

A better angle on the axe. Hopefully it doesn't come back to bight him too often (Martial Pride).

I've just built two more of the veterans. I'm still trying to figure out how to arm the sergeant. Any ideas?

That press mould work is amazing.  What did you use as the basis for the standard discs? I want to use some to simulate illyrian pectoral armour for some of my marines, and I can't seem to find something 'just right'.

Love the Sergeant.  The wyldwood ranger weapon seems perfect as an EC answer to the Axe.

That axe looks incredible! :smile.:

Wood Elf Wildwood Ranger weapon right? Fits the EC beautifully.

Yeah, they are the Wildwood Ranger axes. Glad you think that they fit the III Legion aesthetic :)

That is stupid pretty.

Who care's if it bites him in the ass in a challenge?

Absolute worst case scenario, gorgeous corpse :biggrin.:

Ha, yeah. A pretty corpse that cost and extra point of combat res (I don't know why I'm worried, I'll probably never use them in a game :P ).

Thanks, dude! The discs are actually the only bits not press moulded. I simply used a hole punch on some plastic-card to create the discs and then covered them with green stuff. The patterns were made using the little plastic tube that come with GW paint brushes and the base of a chaos icon pole.

^^ Well, if you're giving your Sgt Artificer armor your opponent will most likely either:

A.) Bounce off it with a power sword, mail or something else AP3

Or

B.) have an axe or fist, going at the same time as you ^_^

Also "Don't know why I'm worried, I'll prolly never use them in game." Is my typical go to justification for building awesome models lately. Good call! :D

I need to just run with that justification more often. I'm sure that I'd get more done and stress less. Plus I only very, very rarely play, and when I do it's usually Fantasy anyway :P

Really cool axe and pose on the sergeant.

Thanks mate! Glad you like the axe :)

Hahaha, all in good time. You shouldn't be in such a rush to face the Emperor's most perfect and honoured Legion :P

Love your EC kizzdougs! So many ideas, so much to beg/borrow/steal for my own army. The ranger axes work well. I tried with wood elf spears but they look a little too weedy!!

Thanks, bro! Please feel free to borrow any ideas that you want. I've probably borrowed them from somewhere else already :P

Just built another veteran. I've been trying to add a bit more detail to the veterans to really help them stand out. The lack of sculpted details on the regular FW marines is both a blessing and a curse. On one hand they look awfully plain for a veterans squad (especially III Legion), but on the other hand they are the perfect blank canvas to add your own detail. Legion upgrade kits go some way to fixing this, but areas such as legs and arms are crying out for some extra love. I've really enjoyed sculpting and moulding the extra details and would encourage anyone to give it a go. The moulding is super simple and the small details such as legion numerals, laurels, and gems are all easy to do with a little patience. Then again, some Legions such as the IV, XII, XIV, and XX look great in functional and unadorned armour.

I've been a bit slow on the painting front because I've been working on Be'Lakor for my Warriors army.

Thanks for looking ;)

  • 2 weeks later...

Just finished the test mini for my new veterans squad. I'm fairly happy with how he turned out, although I do feel that he needs another spot colour to break up the purple and gold. I'll probably try to work in some more white or silver for the other veterans.

Damn he's pretty. I don't really care for the EC usually but you have my attention. The detail you're putting into each squad member is awesome mate. Paintings top notch as always  I think you could be right that he needs another spot colour though.

Thanks dude! I'm glad the most glorious and noble legion has finally caught your attention :P I've been putting even more effort into the latest batch of veterans as far as the detail is concerned. Obviously this means that progress is much slower, but hopeful the improved quality will keep me motivated. As for the spot colour, I'll definitely try to work some more white into the squad.

Awesome stuff dude, awesome stuff.

Thanks mate! Have you finished your Hawk Lord yet? He was looking awesome :)

Very nice model. Maybe all he needs is his chapter badge to bring it together. I think the painting is very good as is.

Thanks bro! I think you might be right. I've got the Emperor's Children transfer sheet, so I'll have to give them a go once the squad is painted. Hopefully the flat transfers don't looking too strange next to all of the raised detail :)

I've just finished building another veteran. Only one more to go and I'll be able to base coat the squad :)

I've also gone back and added some more detail to the other legionaries. There is no such thing as too many battle honours in the III Legion :P

Good to hear mate, I'm looking forward to seeing him :)

One last shot of the unpainted veterans (there are two others that I've already made a start on) before they get an undercoat. I'm thinking of doing a 'step by step' as I paint this unit. Would people be interested in that?

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l522/kizzdougs/DSCN3371_zpsnofseffz.jpg

And a single shot of the last completed veteran.

The laurel was sculpted and the III numeral was press moulded. I've been getting a bit more confident with my green stuffing skills, hence the laurels that I've sculpted on several of the veterans. They're super easy to do and very characterful for the Emperor's Children.
