hows it going guys. along with getting a single game in, (would have been able to fight some orks too) I was able to get a little work in.

the first thing i did was make a base for the chaplain, which i feel is pputs him a head taller then my one squad, and two heads taller then the newst squad.

http://i1148.photobucket.com/albums/o567/lastdog/007-Copy.jpg

a few minutes ago i got the bases on my second tactical squad finished. i decided to glue them down so that i can stop using an ultramarine squad as a stand in (the tau i fought yesterday thought that i was ultramarines!!! while im clearly desendent of the crimson fist!)

heres the first five

http://i1148.photobucket.com/albums/o567/lastdog/003-1.jpg

and the second five, which the five snuck in behind for a second shooting

http://i1148.photobucket.com/albums/o567/lastdog/004-1.jpg

and the chaplain (aside from his base) is now finished!!! i even put him on a temp base so he could smack some kroot around.

http://i1148.photobucket.com/albums/o567/lastdog/006-Copy.jpg

i really like everything about him, one thing i find myself focusing on is the red trim of his shoulder. i really feel like i shouldnt have used that onther shoulder pad that i painted gold. it would have looked nicer with that little bit more red i think.

oops, its not finished, i still have to paint the rope. no idea what color i'll do, maybe some more red.

theres still alot of work to do on the tacticals, i havent even made their heads yet, or their shoulder pads. ive gotten lazy with that. and i need to prime their back packs. but the important thing is i can play a full 1000 points with out having to subsitute.

ill post another update once ive finished the marines and have something else started to show off. untill next time.

OohRah!

So I finally got around to working on some sternguard, an taking them off the sprue. Upon a closer inspection, not only are there a number of imperfections that u wish I didn't have to try and fix, but there's also some pink stuff hiding in some crevices.

I'm not so concerned about the pink stuff, but the holes dotting the marines are always in the most key locations. Also this stuff seems really soft, I'm worried I'm going to break it or bend it, which reminds me that the one sgts arm /gun is bent so he's aiming in some weird angle. It's all quite depressing.

Is there some procedure to having it replaced? I bought it from my local hobby store a few months ago as opposed to a GW store.

Any help would be appreciated.

Yet another reason why I'll avoid failcast if at all possible. Mould failure. Have you tried dipping the warped piece in hot water? Resin is incredibly elastic, and you may be able to get it to bounce back to its original shape. As to the scope...I have no idea.

Pink stuff is part of the mould breaking up and tearing off, if you think your mini looks bad the next one will be totally awful.

Not sure where in the world you are but with FineCast I can just walk in my local GW store in the UK and they will swap it there and then no need to return it to HQ and usually they will let you keep the failed box for spares due to the inconvenience of returning the faulty mini.

Thanks recon, I'll have to remind myself to do that when I get to them. Upon seeing you're name a flood of ideas for my sternguard came to me. While the codec marines sternguard are decorated with Honours and symbols of the Emperors grace (ill add some of those too) my sternguard should have a more tactical approach.

If I remember correctly sternguard have an additional attack that normal marines don't have, If my memory serves me ill represent this with combat knives on the unit. Extra ammo pouches and grenades. Additional purity seals, skulls, Armor studds. Perhaps more carrying pouches/bags?? Comunication equipment maybe on one marine?

Any other suggestions on how I can make my sternguard stand out from normal tactical marines?

How about more pouches maybe glue em on the torso and they would have more of a chest rig look...combat knife on the shoulder like how we attach em to are ispac vests box caster from IG set or the forge world set...or no helmets for any of them? And since your green stuff is great maybe green stuff a watch cap on them? I gotta. A lotta of ideas

Oh PM me i had a idea. I would like your help with...more of a cooperative idea

"In space they say no one can here you scream.....unless it's the battlecry of the United State Marine Corps!" - Sergeant Major Bougus (USMC)

This army is coming along nicely :tu:

Are you planning on adding anymore flyers? Or are you sticking with groundpounders from here on out?

Having just recently went through your thread, I simply fell in love with the USM style marines! Since I myself is in JROTC Marine academy I have a big respect for them and just love your style! I may or may not make my own like this, though there is the problem with the heraldry sine I'm not that good in greenstuffing yet :P. Other then that great stuff man, can't wait to see the rest!

When I first started this army, I was painting the EGA in red. I didn't like how the free handed chapter badge was often clumsy and always unique to each Marine, and in different sizes even, so when I made the chapter master this summer I started to put thoughts in my head on paper, and then on to models with the GS. It took a few attempts and careful manipulation, but I'm extreamly satisfied with the new product, which I now paint gold.

That being said, it can be time consuming to make a cast for each shoulder pad....

Thanks for liking them, as I mentioned earlyer I like you're Marines as well, and may use some of them for inspiration. As for seeing the rest, some one needs to hand cuff me to my desk, I have two companies already purchased, plus transportation and armor/ Aircraft support.

just so everyone knows im still working on this... heres what ive been doing for my Sternguard. im starting from the ground up, so all ive got is the legs. and im not even done with them, but i thought you might like to see how its going.

these four are legs that im modifying by changing the details, which i guess is a way of changing the patern? one of them is deffenitly becoming a new patern.

the next three i've changed by cutting off the legs and feet, and re-positioning. again not done, but you can see where im going with it. this first one is the most compleet, as ive actualy put both feet back on. (one heal is not finished yet, these things take time)
