I did originally do one in bare steel with brass trim & a splash of green but it just didnt look right at all. Im doing mine in the same colours as the rest of the army but am planning a conversion of 2 deathshroud in "ceremonial warplate" which will be heavily artwork inspired & may give them the raw metal look.

Ugh so overall progress has ground to a halt due to part of my airbrush getting damaged.. now waiting for a replacement part

in the mean time i have done some work on the infantry.. squad varlen is getting closer to completion now despite my best efforts to get distracted.

My Death Guard are based on the pre-Heresy scheme, but makes me want to collect the older Heresy minis...

Thanks guys, ill check out pn at some point, i eventually plan on creating a small 40k warband called the afflicted based on the remnants of kael's company that got separated from the rest of the dg post istvaan.

theres also a stealth update on a marking on the storm eagle.. but i need to get a good 1k sized force painted so i can fight against daemon prince dargor and take lots of fancy photos at open day without him shaming me too much

thanks man, i havent worked on the fire angels in a loong time (should probably update my sig.. and possibly them) the death guard have been a big priority for me and its always good to hear nice things about them as theyve become a bit of a labour of love :p

started work on a command squad to go with Kael, the banner needs a LOT of work, but i wanted something that showed that the death guard companies were a tad grander than "standard" companies, will be removing the brass etch from the centre however.. will freehand something instead.

 

one more guy left for this unit before i can prime them.. and im stumped for ideas

Freakin in love with Mr. Powerfist. Great idea erasing the Imperial insignia from his chestplate. I really like the bared aftereffect.

 

The huge banner is also nice. Any ideas of what you'll be painting onto it?

I think the swords are a bit... flowery, for DG. Some blunter looking broadswords would be cooler imo than the fancy schmancy GK/BA weapons. But apart from that, stellar work!

the "winged" sword was a gift to its as of yet unamed wielder from an emps kid and will be in somewhat of a state of disrepair (the hilt will be suffering from a serious case of verdigris and patina) whereas the grey knight sword is essentially as unblingy as a power sword can get..

 

remember the death guard dont craft their own weapons or suits of armour, so certain flourishes on behalf of the artificer are to be expected.. just uncared for by the legion that receives them, its the same as the world eaters view on things in many respects such as kharns view on his helmets crest doing nothing more than marking him out for wannabe heroes and snipers..

Regards the guy on the left that is missing how's about a comms officer or apothecary? Comms officer would tie in quite nicely with the central chap shouting something at him. Either way, foot up on a rock obviously.

Love the FW CHampion conversion :)  The painting is pretty damn solid all around, but I think I like the bare heads the best.  Lots of character there :tu:

thanks man, im quite confident in my ability to paint faces but am striving to improve and add enough difference to each face as to make all my helmetless marines seem like individuals.

 

i wont be adding an apothecary to the squad (i have a mk2 one sitting around doing nothing regardless) i think a psuedo coms marine could work regardless of the inability to take a nuncio vox as long as i model him to be a little subtle.. have you noticed my distinct lack of "foot on rock" poses in this squad.. after i put the champion next to the praetor i went "oh.. damn, now i cant do that to any of the rest of them or people will make comments! >.<"

 

*edit* so i went ahead and made the final member, pretty happy with him

dont think he looks too ott as a vox man, just need to tidy him up and add a few details to the squad as a whole.. and then its primer time!

Looking awesome bud, just about to start on the command squad for my World Eaters, and these guys are great source of inspiration. Is that a Mk. IV assault cuirass I see on the vox specialist? That's a really characterful legionary. I'm curious, where is his head from?
