Well, okay then: Maybe a tabard's not exactly what I meant, because I am definitely not suggesting to cover up the work you've already done on his torso -- but I'd give him more of a skirt or ...erm the lower part of a tabard than a mere loincloth, mostly to give him more of a presence. As for being able to take it off, given the extent of his injuries, I'd suspect taking off his armour (and everything on top of it) would be the exception rather than the rule.

Manly space marine skirt... That would be something for sure :-P. Mal is looking good, I'm sure you'll get great results, can't wait to see more!

This makes me rember you said some time ago that you improved your sculpting skills a lot thanks to acquiring the right tools... What is it excatly that you use? You always get such smooth surfaces in your conversions and I just wondered how did you manage that.

Pd: English isn't my first lenguage either, I understand that sometimes it's difficult to express something in the forum, specially on specific and technical subjects such as "astartes clothing" ;-)...

That i wanna know too. My surfaces are rough and i have to sand it down a lot. Saving that step would be so great.

i did say that, ill take some pictures of the tools tomorrow and post them, have a look tomorrow, a few i made myself but most bought at local store and some freom greenstuff world, and if i dont get the desire look from sculpting i cheat and file and sand it smooth ;)

sculpting tools!

i took a few pictures mosy of them are silicone tiped clayshapers from arts and craft stores or from green stuff world, most are firm and a few soft, keeping them dampnand clean makes for very smooth finish since the tips are nonstick, also have metal tools, the balltiped tools from greenstuf world again and the dentist like sculpting tools from galeforce 9.

the few tools i made myself is four detail tools made from metal sewing pinn needles, i heated one and flatend it and the others are pretty much just used as is, i glued them into anbit of wooden rod for handle, then added greystuff around the base for some strength .

other than thsi i always use gloves when working with green or greystuff, have paper handy and a cup of water to wet the tools, some silicone baking sheet is also quite handy, i bought one and cut it into smaller bits useful for mixing and flatning the greenstuff on and under the nonstick surface.

what do you think? to early to tell?

i think Maloghurst is coming along well!  The way you have positioned the chest and head already give the model the feel that he is having some back issues lol!.  Are you planning to do so sort of spinal contraption or support on his back/on his backpack?  Almost like a corrective medical spin to try and keep me stable as he walks around.

no spinal contraption planned, gonna aim close to the artwork s i can and tjen a awsome paintjob.

Maloghurst is looking really cool Thamier! I will have to try out reposing some legs myself.

Nemac

it goes a very long way just ajusting legs a bit makes the models much cooler.

Tadaaaaaaaaa!

Man, the patience that must have taken. I'd never be able to get that. :)

well i had friends to chat with while i worked on it at the gaming club also had netflix as backup ;)

I tried to do the pitchfork base for my Maloghurst conversion too...man, I do not have the patience for that. Yours looks great though, looking forward to the finished model!

i love to see your maloghurst, have any picture of it?

My Maloghurst is no where near as intensive as your conversion, honestly yours is a complete resculpt and mine is a few parts swaps/minor sculpting. I imagine FW will eventually do a Chaos-ified version to match his artwork in the future so my take is on a Pre-Heresy Maloghurst.

I am very confident that the detailing on your Maloghurst will end up looking fantastic. If I can make one small suggesion, however: I really prefer the more static alignment of his head to the more dynamic pose you've used in the new mockup: I matched the artwork more closely, for one, and it also hints at the severity of his injuries: Maybe he has lost some mobility in his entire torso and something as simple as turning his head is no longer all that easy for him -- I really got a bit of a Darth Vader-vibe from the very first mockup, and I think it would fit the character (and the art) rather perfectly!

In any case, keep up the excellent work! :)

i really like that model, its a cool maloghurst.

That's just awesome. Have you ever done a tutorial on how you work with greenstuff? If not it would be very much appreciated :D

Nemac

ill see what i can do, but its a slow process :)

i got his legs set and the upper body tagged on, and took apicture before seeing your comment, but the head isent glued in yet.

the aim is to having him walk down the strp and leaning on the banner for support, hopefully it will give him the look of weight and a hint at his injuries.

i also been wondering what weapons to give him.

his wargear says bolt pistol and boltgun and powersword, so for hos other aem im thinking a bolt pistol, the boltgun seems too heavy to be hefted onehanded and he dosent seem to be so close combat oriented so powersword might be okay in a scabbard, what do you all think?
