Oh no, a proper EC would get even more attention - this fella is a 'company champion' for the command squad. He has extra crusader seals and a combat knife because I imagine him as kind of a candidate for EC status - he is a particularly adept combatant who follows a similar path already. This is still just a WIP, there's a lot of paint to hit the model still.

My 'Company Command Squad Champion' is pretty much done - I'll end up painting the sand on the base eventually, and I'll revisit the powered tip of the lance with some highlights no doubt. I have a bunch of 'tilting' shields I'm doing separately for the unit, one of which he will get, as well as some storm shields which I will probably magnetise to the side of some of the more basic bikers. For now he is ready to accompany my Chaplain on bike for my next battle ;)

Wow. He turned out really, really well. I like what you did with the wings, emulating your crusade symbol, very clever.

I am assuming you will add more specialists, e.g. Apothecary or Banner bearer?

Woah, he looks awesome! I'm adding some bikes to my crusade soon, and I was considering throwing on some DA bits, but wasn't sure if they would look right. I guess this answers my question!

Thanks! Yeah, as a champion, I wanted to have the crusade-colours feature prominently. There is an apothecary to follow, then some more lancers. As the lances are all magnetised, I'm planning on doing a banner arm for them too. Although it might not hit the table often, it will be fun ;)

I like the DA bits - I think they are pretty versatile for any of the Angels of Death and suit the imperial iconography in general. They also have a certain grail-knight quality to them that gels with the tone I wanted as a heavy cavalry unit.

My Tech-marine speeder (counts-as Landspeeder Storm) finally got a claw added to the crane arm, and I found a few little boxes/crates to add to the transport area. I'll try and get this painted up soon!

I also dug out an old metal sniper scout, who was missing a barrel. Made him a new one, and will re-paint him as another Dornian chapter recruit. Both of these fellas are likely to make their way into a new 200 point kill team list!

It seems I've missed your previous update, where you posted photos of the two bikers. Great work on both of the guys; I really like the various additions of bits and the way you used colours; I particularly like the chequered 'wings' of the Champion, the Chaplain's custom crozius, and the 'chapel' thingy on the back of the Chaplain's bike (as from what I can see in the photos, they don't look too Dark Angel).

The Speeder is definitely an interesting idea. I've been wanting to make a 'technical Rhino' used by my Crusade's Techmarines, but never thought about a speeder. How are you going to paint it? I mean, are you considering using much Mechanicus red or rather go with a more standard black paint job?

Many thanks! There will always be some similarities when taking two black-armoured, knightly themed forces, but I think they came out pretty well!

I'm planning on going mostly traditional on the colour scheme, with a few more splashes of red than usual. The pilot is rocking a Mech shoulder pad, and will get a fair bit of red himself. I still want it to look like a BT vehicle, first, Tech second ;)

That's a nice idea for some narrative games! For general purposes, it justifies the many special rules of the LSS in my crusade. Scouring battlefields and searching for recoverable assets is dangerous work - the signal jammers and defensive chaff launchers help keep the foe of his back while he gets to work ;) Despite his full power-armour, the speeder is more exposed than the standard gun-platform variant, and frequently carries volatile cargo, making it as vulnerable as other chapters' transport variants.

  • 1 year later...

Greetings Brothers! I'm back from my walkabout crusade (1yr working-holiday in Australia) and making the most of my limited time in Scotland before my next adventure. Doing my best to get to grips with Kill Team, and inspiring my brother to do the same! My Black Templars fought their first battle in over a year, ending in an unlikely pyrrhic victory for the sole-surviving Druhkari Kabalite, who managed a last-ditch 13" sprint straight up a building to claim the objective!

We tallied up our many, many rules errors and are starting fresh after the weekend, with my bro planning on using the Skitarii from the boxed game. I have decided on a starting team (see below) who will form the basis of my roster for our campaign. Very excited to start painting something again too!

Intercessor Sergeant (Leader)

-Stalker Bolt Rifle

Initiate Sergeant (Comms)

-Plasma Pistol

-Auspex

Reiver Sergeant (Combat)

-Heavy Bolt Pistol

-Combat Knife

-Grapnel Launcher

Initiate Gunner (Sniper)

-Heavy Bolter

Intercessor

-Bolt Rifle

Neophyte

-Pistol

-Chainsword

Neophyte

-Shotgun

These 7 come to 100pts on the nose; should be a solid starting point I think?

Try taking an Intercessor Gunner with aux grenade launcher as a Demolitions specialist, even if you don't have it modeled it's a fun loadout for various reasons.

Reivers in Kill Team are about the most fun I've had on the tabletop this year.

Ooh, I might make one to join my fireteam as we play more :)

30" grenades with no penalties

Yeah, I'm torn between modelling one of these magazine Intercessors as a Reiver, or just waiting and getting the pack of three on the magazine. Obviously the armour would be wrong... but it was hard enough finding a copy of issue 1!

It's great to see you back here! Kill team seems like fun. I can't recommend anything about Primaris, though since I have no interest in them. But I sincerely wish you best of luck with whatever you decide. I think that the Primaris models are overwhelmingly boring for making up an entire army, but extremely fun to have ten or fifteen in your force.

I'm looking forward to getting some Reivers on the magazine.

Is GW putting Reivers in a WD? Like soon?

Good to have you back brother, feel free to regale us with tales from your "Down Under" Crusade. :)

As a possible counter-point to BC, I love the Primaris models. I like their clean lines, the fact that regardless of how they are painted, they look amazing and I like their scale.

Probably the biggest knock against them is that they don't scale well against previous SM models. My way of dealing with that was to not paint any in BT colors and instead built some fluff as to why some Primaris would associate with my crusade.

Even just for giggles, I would recommend browsing through this thread:

Which is  20 pages (and growing) of Primaris in all sorts of colors.

Anyway, I'm glad you are back and I look forward  to reading more  of your battle  reports.

Cheers,

Is GW putting Reivers in a WD? Like soon?

Apologies Brother, I was referring to the Conquest Collection in the UK. (However, it shows that if GW can afford to sell three intercessors, three paints and a brush on a mag for two quid they can afford to put more models on WD!) Edited by Brother Adelard

Thanks for the welcome home!

Yeah, I'm looking at doing just enough Primaris for some kill team flexibility, really. I checked out the whole range and pretty much only like the Intercessors, and maybe Reivers if i can swap the helmets out. They do look good painted up, and I may use this as an opportunity to paint some other sons of Dorn. I quite like the idea of a handful of chapters coming together; perhaps in a joint training exercise or something?

The Conquest Magazine is currently a UK exclusive collection, a subscription collection of various Marine/Deathguard models that grows over a year into 2 painted armies and scenery etc. It's main value for me just now was issue 1 was only 1.99, with the easy-build intecessors sprue, plus paints/brush! With a 'paint a primaris' demo model + 3 magazines, I have 10 Intercessors to customise for only 6 quid ;)

Paints + brushes donated to my brother for his fledgling army!

I've busied myself with constructing the scenery from the KT box, along with the leftovers from my Basilica Administratum kit, which some may remember was purchased simply for my landraider kitbash.

I've kept each floor as a separate entity, and used a couple of brass pins to give it enough security for gaming while stacked. This should allow us to mix up our boards somewhat.

The new stuff was all built as-per the instructions on the box, and it's pretty ingenious how it all goes together.

Eagle-eyed veterans will notice the 3rd edition ruins and jungle trees that have been restored ;)
